To think that Mark Drakeford is a power mad dictator?

Half the shops covered in plastic. Can’t buy clothes, duvets, books, DVDs, tins but not tin openers.
All the Halloween and bonfire night stuff that’s just been stocked is behind a cordon. Presumably now destined for landfill.

Autumn half term after a shitty year and I can’t even do a few seasonal treats for the kids.

AIBU to think that Mark Drakeford is a power mad dictator, and that his ridiculous game of Covid oneupmanship with Nicola and Boris needs to stop!?

Let's all dress as Mark for Halloween. Accessorise with cling film batons.

LittleLapwing · 24/10/2020 20:36

@Coolieloach

I think Mark Drakeford is doing the right thing. I think people have difficulty seeing the bigger picture, lacking any kind of insight into the strategy and science behind decisions because they are blighted with their own fear and anger.
How do you think that MD dictating what we can and cannot buy is helping ‘fight the virus’?

Even he said that wasn’t the intention.

OP posts:
Coolieloach · 24/10/2020 20:39

Really?

Coolieloach · 24/10/2020 20:41

Do you think Mark Drakeford just got up one morning and thought, what can I do today to annoy the Welsh people? Oh I know, I’ll stop them buying non essentials for the 2 week circuit breaker

LittleLapwing · 24/10/2020 20:42

@Coolieloach

Really?
Yes, really.

It was to ‘level the playing field.’ Purely because he didn’t think it was fair. Absolutely no science, evidence, or rationale for fighting the virus.

Today’s Facebook post cited ‘reducing browsing time’ as one of the reasons but that was the first time, and because of the backlash.
Prior to that, it was all about making it ‘fair for all shops.’

Not fighting the virus.

He wants everyone to stay at home as much as possible. I'd never vote Labour but I think he's done a good job. His support in Wales has increased since March.

FreshFreesias · 24/10/2020 20:44

He’s a barmy and power crazed politician

CoalCraft · 24/10/2020 20:57

I think it's a bit alarmist to suggest that the firebreak will go on beyond the specified date; it's not in the interests of Drakeford for the economy to fall over any more than it already will. I may later be proved wrong of course.

However, the rule on supermarkets not being allowed to sell "non-essential" items is absurd and baffling. How does it protect smaller shops when those shops are closed? As many others have said, the only winner from this will be Amazon.

I have a feeling he might be forced to walk this absurd decision back soon.

MissEliza · 24/10/2020 21:08

@clairethewitch70

Carbon monoxide monitors covered. Obviously not essential
That's absolutely crazy 🙉
BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 24/10/2020 21:19

@CoalCraft he’s having a think on Monday 😂

goingtogetsomesleep · 24/10/2020 21:31

Imagine a thread in Relationships where the OPs DH is allowing her to only buy food and essential items and he decides what those essential items are. She is not allowed new clothes for the kids or herself or to replace household items that break.
How many LTBs would she get?

GabsAlot · 24/10/2020 22:01

hes already backtracking-got this one completely wrong

That’s a ridiculous comparison

That's the only scenario that makes sense tbh.
Noideawottodo · 24/10/2020 22:20

@Lurkerlot

I’m in North Wales, usually work over the border, now wfh, for what it’s worth no one I know objects to this. No one I know has come into contact with Rona. Drakefords handling of the pandemic has seen his personal ratings go through the roof. BTW it was a Tory, requesting the action, on behalf of the some small business federation that kicked it all off.
Really? I know it's not necessarily representative, but the comments on the Welsh Govt FB page are 99% critical
AnyFucker · 24/10/2020 22:25

This guy makes Boris Johnson look like he's doing a reasonable job.

cardibach · 24/10/2020 22:28

@LittleLapwing

I can’t believe anyone really believes it will actually be only 17 days.
It will be only 17 days. Feel free to tell me I was naive if I’m wrong. Why do you think it will be.longer?
TooManyDogsandChildren · 24/10/2020 22:29

Once again, a decision taken by those who are supposed to represent us which is entirely lacking in common sense.

cardibach · 24/10/2020 22:30

@mum11970

If I wrote down my feelings about Mark Drakeford and his handling of this pandemic it would be just a string of swear words. Useless feckin cockwomble! You can’t even buy a book to read whilst stuck inside with fuck all to do!
You definitely can. My local book shop does delivery or click and collect
cardibach · 24/10/2020 22:32

@charlieclown

I need to buy school uniform for my kids as I didn't manage it before September as we were self isolating. I would consider this to be essential. And indeed kids coats, pants etc.

I havent seen anything to which makes me think drake Ford will agree.

You haven’t managed to buy school uniform in 8 weeks since we started back, but would do it now if only there wasn’t a two week lockdown?I call bullshit.
cardibach · 24/10/2020 22:34

@Shangrilalala

And our massive Tesco was rammed yesterday - no chance of socially distancing at all. Packed with shoppers filling their trolleys with drinks before the Joy Pollce in The Senedd turn their attention to anything else which people might enjoy.
Oh try not to talk shit. It’s about things that can’t be bought in closed high street shops. It’s not the fun police.
cardibach · 24/10/2020 22:36

I honestly can’t believe the drama and faux ‘woe is me’ over this. It’s 2 weeks. For stuff that you can’t buy in high street shops that have had to close, to try to protect them. Don’t be such a bunch of winers.

cardibach · 24/10/2020 22:37

@AnyFucker

I normally agree with you, but this is a shit take. Our levels are lower than England, and this will drip them further.
Whyisitsodifficult · 24/10/2020 22:37

People of Wales you need to take to the streets! I’m in utter shock of the absurdity of it all!

littlbrowndog · 24/10/2020 22:37

he makes Nicola look restrained

Tha5 is not a good look tbh
