"Seems her comments were also taken out of context."

Have you read it? The entire comments in her newsletter were published so you can see for yourself in what context they were meant.

I have read it - I am simply reporting that she is saying her comments were taken out of context.

Funny how they defend what they say but they take it down, are they ashamed, embarrassed or what?

I'm not impressed with my Devon MP, he hasn't responded to my email about his vote but at least he isn't Saxby so I suppose that is a good thing.

acerred · 24/10/2020 12:53

And another mp showing their true colours, this time one who claimed 30k in expenses.

That’s the one we’re discussing above, OP.

It's hideously fascinating watching the government make such a mess of this.

It successfully whipped its own benches to vote against the FSM proposal, but lazily forgot to give its backbenchers the 'right' message, leaving MPs like Bradley and Saxby quite openly exposing their own truthful beliefs.

And yes, the £600 million in June was gone in weeks. It was spread thin to start with, and had far too much to do.

There are 343 councils in England, btw, 55 of which are unitary. I think some posters imagine there are about a dozen councils sharing out vast riches on a regular basis. All unitaries have actually seen is cuts. Ask any council leader - including the Conservative ones.

ancientgran · 24/10/2020 13:10

The whips really need to tell them to shut up. No wonder they are avoiding appearing on NewsNight or GMB, sometimes it is a good idea to keep quiet and avoid letting people know what an idiot/bastard or whatever you really are.

JamieLeeCurtains · 24/10/2020 13:21

Tory whips made some pretty bad errors of judgement over Cummings as well, according to the Guardian back in May:

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/24/tory-whips-apologise-for-urging-mps-to-support-dominic-cummings

I suspect the current whips are very, very compromised now, in a number of areas. Bradley and Saxby may never have used drugs or paid for a sexual encounter, but those whips will know of plenty of their colleagues who have. They really didn't want that gate wide open for Keir Starmer to walk through.

lockeddownandcrazy · 24/10/2020 13:30

I think I would be more worried about the level of communication from the school and trying to score political points.

ancientgran · 24/10/2020 13:32

The school didn't do anything political. I'm more worried about the schools that let Boris Johnson use children as props for his photo propaganda. I'm glad mine are older but if they were at school and I found out he was doing a visit I wouldn't let my children attend.

Billben · 24/10/2020 13:33

Exactly this. And a CofE school as well.
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/10/2020 13:37

The 600 million also needs to be offset against a loss of income for councils. Parking revenue was lost for example. Where jobs are lost you can see a knock on effect in Council Tax revenue.

mumwon · 24/10/2020 13:39

@picklemewalnuts small point its very good that you are doing community kitchens
BUT
not every body would have access - distance & availability across country
&
can you cater for specialist diets (allergies, religious & cultural - school manage this with support but it isn't straightforward or easy )

picklemewalnuts · 24/10/2020 13:47

All true, mumwon.

We're doing vegetarian across the board. We don't get a lot of call for other diets (we do a big bonfire event and ask people ahead of time to let us know what they need).

We are delivering, where it helps. And yes we are also looking after older folk.

FSM in term time is great- my local school does breakfasts as well.
Outside term, I favour the breakfast clubs etc because it helps in a wider sense- we see the kids, lots of opportunities for other needs to be expressed as well- clothes swaps, any safeguarding concerns can be met, support offered etc. But of course that was pre Covid when we could play games and craft activities with the children.

I can't help but think if he has knowledge of the degree of prostitution maybe its because he - um - has an intimate insiders viewpoint
Sorry but his comments are so disgusting - I think it was pointed out by an interviewee on the media that they could see women being forced into becoming a sex worker & please don't tell me how X down the road manipulated the system thats in parallel with criminals who have abused lock down funding. There are always crooks - but most people who find themselves like this are trapped because of catch 22 situations or have social, medical or family problems & poverty is going to increase
I do feel for single people who become unemployed or in erratic temporary unstable work at the moment - UC for them is a real pittance

What have I just read?! So Mark Jenkinson MP is saying that food parcels are traded for drugs in his constituency?!

These Tory MPs are not even hiding their contempt for us any more because they know there's nothing we can do about them.

He's disgusting. I really don't think he should be an mp. He's previously advocated sterilising people on benefits. He's an entitled little shit who has no compassion or understanding what many people and his constituents go through on a daily basis. Callous and cruel. I hope Mansfield vote this specimen out at the next available opportunity.

ancientgran · 24/10/2020 14:43

I've just signed this petition. www.change.org/p/uk-parliament-end-taxpayer-subsidized-meals-for-mps MPs are earning enough to buy their own food without us subsidising them, I mean what are they wasting their money on? They really need to take some responsibility for themselves, if they can't afford the price of a meal in Westminster then make up a packed lunch in the morning.

ancientgran · 24/10/2020 14:45

I love this comment "There is not one dealer on the planet who's accepting Dairylea sarnies in exchange for gear". by Jack Peat in The London Economic.

Ernieshere · 24/10/2020 14:51

Our local M.P voted against as he said children are receiving a nutritious meal during term time.

Our School is giving the children Mon- Fri - a ham sandwich, an apple and a chocolate muffin every day for £2.30. (We don't get f.s.m as I get WTC)

Friday is fishfinger & chips with carrots.
