Severe piles

pilespandora · 23/10/2020 21:15

I have name changed for obvious reasons. My youngest son (I have three) is nearly a year old, after I had him I had a minor case of piles which didn't really bother me/didn't hurt as was only really noticeable when I was on the toilet, but over the last week it has worsened and has now got to the point when I literally look like I have a testicle hanging out of my bum (I know this sounds funny but it's the best way I can describe it), it's also become quite painful. I have got a GP appointment booked but it isn't for a couple of weeks so I wondered has anyone had a similar issue and if so what has helped with it? Any particular creams or any other tips/advice please?

CBA to name change
germaloids suppositories helped when I was growing a bollock (at least that's what it felt like)

Belindabelle · 23/10/2020 21:22

Sudocrem is good until you can get some Anusol or Germaloid. Most women who have given birth get them at some time or other.

Glitteryone · 23/10/2020 21:24

I feel your pain!

Preperation H gel or Anusol cream for me helps.

VillanellesOrangeCoat · 23/10/2020 21:25

Anusol is instantly soothing. Hope you get sorted soon Flowers

Massive sympathy! I posted a while ago on here about piles. I had a terrible flare up. I had 3 visits to the hospital. One doctor recommended a sitz bath. It really helped. Also ice and germaloids ointment and suppositories. Get a stool softener so you're not constipated. Drink lots of water and take painkillers if you need to. I was prescribed codeine which can cause constipation so I had to take a laxative alongside it.
It took about 5 weeks to feel better again. I hope your feel better soon.

Dugee · 23/10/2020 21:26

I feel for you.

You need to get something stronger, you can buy it online at the independent pharmacy. I'll be back in a minute when I've got the name, anusol and germaloids had nothing on this stuff.

Dugee · 23/10/2020 21:28

Xyloproct. Expensive but works.

pilespandora · 23/10/2020 21:32

Thanks for much everyone for replying you have me feel a lot better, I didn't realise how many women went through this. @Dugee thank you for the suggestion, does it get rid of them or just help with the discomfort?

It’s definitely not funny, I have them admittedly not so large but my BIL has them so bad he got signed off work!

Rocketpants50 · 23/10/2020 21:36

I got terrible piles after giving birth, why do they never warn you about these, did NCT & NHS classes not once did they mention how crap you would feel after giving birth and piles. Thank goodness for rubber rings. Cant recommend anything different but you are not alone and hope you get them sorted soon.

Sunnyrainshowers · 23/10/2020 21:39

Ok apologies because this is gross and tmi, so look away anyone squeamish.

As well as getting cream, what was really a relief was pushing them back inside the ahm, passage. Hugely relieved the pain and discomfort

Dugee · 23/10/2020 21:40

Mine was a prolapsed internal haemorrhoid. It was more painful than childbirth. The xyloproct provided painkiller and shrank it. I've now got a small skin tag where it was but it doesn't cause any pain.

2020iscancelled · 23/10/2020 21:45

Witch hazel helps too, on soft cotton pads - you know the large ones - not the cheap scratchy stuff! - apply witch hazel on cotton wool then apply gently to the area

I also used to spritz witch hazel onto the back end of panty liners or place the cotton wool onto the liner so it ‘say’ right where it was needed

So painful I know. Lots of warm baths helped me too, make sure to dry properly though or you’ll get extra itchy Confused

Sat - not say!

Mixitupalot · 23/10/2020 21:53

Silly question, do they go away? I can’t seem to get rid of mine at all Blush

OpEd · 23/10/2020 21:54

Unfortunately GP's no longer prescribe treatments for piles. Ice pack and see if you can now get steroid cream over the counter, I used to get it on prescription but hopefully it's OTC now.

Belindabelle · 23/10/2020 22:00

I second the recommendation to take a stool softener and drink plenty water. Treat yourself to some moist toilet tissue or use baby wipes. Normal toilet paper feels like sandpaper when they are bad.

My GP absolutely does! I have scheriproct Op, the suppositories and the cream. They work really fast. In the meantime use anusol suppositories and vagisil cream. The numbing stuff in pile cream is lidocaine and the concentration is higher in vagisil
steppingcarefully · 23/10/2020 22:07

Homeopathy cured mine about 12 years ago. I have recently had a flare up so I'm using homeopathy again in the hope it will be as successful as before. Sudocrem is great for the itching and soreness.

Enko · 23/10/2020 22:14

bio oil really helped get rid of that dry sensation of " something is burning"

I have had treatment from gp mine were internal, not external and I recently had bands put on them. Hoping that will be the end of them

bloomety · 23/10/2020 22:22

I had them after my son. It was absolute agony. The best thing was an ice pack from the chemist. I put it in the freezer and then when it was frozen I sat on it. Ahhh bliss. It was all that worked.

Allywill · 23/10/2020 22:36

i had terrible piles after my 1st daughter. you should ask gp for a steroid based cream which will shrink them. you can have them banded at hospital once they have shrunk ask your gp for a referral.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 23/10/2020 22:38

My DS is 4 and I'm FINALLY scheduled for general surgery. I really, really had to push for it. At first I got them "bandied" - where a band is put round the base of them with the intention that they fall off. Some did but I just got more. And like you, I look from behind like I have testicles.

Ask to be referred to a colorectal surgeon, hopefully bandying will work for you!

Blossomhill123 · 23/10/2020 22:42

I feel your pain - please don’t eat any nuts 🤬.
Anusol 4 way is your friend .
It will take 4-5 days to work

Merryoldgoat · 23/10/2020 22:47

You need a steroid cream - Anusol HC is ok (OTC) until you can get Scheriproct or Protoctsedyl which are magical.

Use suppositories AND ointment.

Use fybogel to stay regular and avoid constipation.

A Witchhazel soaked cotton pad applied directly can also provide relief.

It’s hideous - the piles were worse than recovering from a section as far as I’m concerned.
