Severe piles

I have name changed for obvious reasons. My youngest son (I have three) is nearly a year old, after I had him I had a minor case of piles which didn't really bother me/didn't hurt as was only really noticeable when I was on the toilet, but over the last week it has worsened and has now got to the point when I literally look like I have a testicle hanging out of my bum (I know this sounds funny but it's the best way I can describe it), it's also become quite painful. I have got a GP appointment booked but it isn't for a couple of weeks so I wondered has anyone had a similar issue and if so what has helped with it? Any particular creams or any other tips/advice please?

@OpEd

Unfortunately GP's no longer prescribe treatments for piles. Ice pack and see if you can now get steroid cream over the counter, I used to get it on prescription but hopefully it's OTC now.
Mine do - I got Scheriproct last week.

I haven't rtft, but I had the worst piles I have ever had (on my birthday!) in june, and I went to urgent care. The worst one was the size and shape of a fucking "Big Purple One" quality street and I was in agony. They sent me straight to hospital with a referral to the duty surgeon.
As it turned out, treatment (anaesthetic gel, painkillers, fibogel type stuff) worked, but they actually gave me the choice to be admitted on the spot, and said if the treatment didn't work in a week to go back for surgery.
Anyway, after suffering at you lovely, please don't suffer. Go to urgent care - people snigger, but severe piles are no joke, and herniated ones can be serious. Go and get help. Don't wait a fortnight! Really, go!

Excuse the autocorrect bollocks too Grin

Anusol and an ice pack definitely will help until you can get to a doctor. Try to get a doughnut inflatable ring if you can. Watch your diet as well. Try to avoid anything that could irritate it and drink plenty of water.

It's such a horrible thing to experience, I've always suffered and after the birth of my first... JESUS WEPT! would never have had kids had I known! That and the UTI, where the only thing that would keep it at bay was cranberry juice, which just made my blooming mouth dry.

Poppyapplebobber · 23/10/2020 23:48

The doctor had to prescribe me steroid cream for mine after my daughter, if you ring the surgery ask them to give you a prescription for some whilst your waiting, its so painful you cant deal with the pain until your appointment

allthewaterinthetap · 23/10/2020 23:57

They are horrible. I take flavanoids which have helped.
Anyone who had the bands, what's it like?

IrnBruAndTwiglets · 24/10/2020 00:34

I was in agony with piles after having dd and it might sound like it wouldnt make any difference but resting my feet on something to elevate my knees above my hips made a huge difference. And counterintuitively, not pushing, helped too. Was just in the loo for ages! I hope you get it sorted, they're murder

Enko · 24/10/2020 01:41

@allthewaterinthetap

They are fine actually. I was very sore and loopy the day of the surgery slept a lot the next day (as I react to a GA) However after that I am no longer in pain and for about 10 days I had some bleeding and it was uncomfortable but it settled down and now (3 weeks down the line) it's absolutely fine. I wish it had been done years ago. I struggled with over the counter medication and home remedies for so many years and when I finally went to the GP he took one look and said let's refer and it was sorted fairly soon (would have been March but I was scheduled for 2 days after lockdown)

So all of you please do speak with your GP sooner rather than later if in pain. Mine was great.

ThisIsntMeHonestGuv · 24/10/2020 01:51

If you have coconut oil, that can really help.

Obviously other things that are made for the purpose will be better, but if you can't get them, then it's a good option.

So good that the first time I tried it, I didn't need anything else. It did the job while I was waiting for the anusol that I had ordered to arrive.

FrankensteinsKnuts · 24/10/2020 02:18

Surgery.

Best thing I ever did.
I had an internal one that popped out every time I went to the toilet, so I had to pop it back in. It was often sore. 4 years I carried on like that for until finally I went to my GP. I had a sigmoidoscopy then scheduled for removal under GA.

BitOfFun · 24/10/2020 02:22

Homeopathy won't help anything that wasn't going to get better on its own anyway, but your GP should, I hope.

steppingcarefully · 24/10/2020 09:40

I beg to differ here. I had suffered for years before trying homeopathy and they cleared within weeks. Before that I had never tried homeopathy and believed the same as you. I have since used it for another medical issue and the same thing happened, something I had suffered with for months cleared up. I am now waiting to see the effects of my latest treatment.

mrssunshinexxx · 28/11/2020 22:02

I am so tempted to get mine banded I really struggle and none of the creams touch the sides
Do you get out to sleep for it?
How long in hospital for?
I have a small baby so I think I'll have to wait

Adelais · 28/11/2020 22:41

I had a baby in February and been suffering with the little buggars ever since! I’ve tried numerous creams including a steroid cream a gp prescribed after having a telephone appointment but that did nothing for mine. I keep meaning to go back to the Gp but know I’ll have to have it looked at and I’m too embarrassed Blush

Tinythumbelina · 29/11/2020 09:49

Rest, I know hard with as child, lots of water and the best cream available. Apply over & over. Ibuprofen & paracetamol. There is a gel, cannot remember the name, that's was a numbing gel, best thing ever.
