As a foodbank volunteer could I please can anyone who can to donate to their local foodbank this weekend. Demand is huge at the moment and with more redundancies happening each week more and more people will be turning to a foodbank for help. It could be you needing their help in the future. The link below let’s you search for your local foodbank and see what they need the most.

Thank you

Just donate a tenner, hopefully they can buy what they need if they get money. Thanks OP.

SandysMam · 23/10/2020 19:05

*donated

Talia78 · 23/10/2020 19:45

Thanks OP - I have also just donated

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 23/10/2020 19:47

Hi
I donate some things the other day and have also donated my Tesco vouchers to you.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 23/10/2020 19:50

Morrison's online delivery let you add a donation onto your weekly shop

LittleOwl153 · 23/10/2020 19:57

As another foodbank volunteer can I please urge you not only to check your local bank but also check the what the need page... we have loads of beans/pasta/ soup but lack alot of other things. Sponge pudding, uht milk, tinned meat/fish are always wanted!!

JustMeAndMyTins · 23/10/2020 20:22

Donated. Smile

Badgerbadger22 · 23/10/2020 20:27

Can I ask where in the UK food banks are struggling the most?

I’m in the SW and I want my donation to go to the area it’s most needed (if possible?)

Smile I know my local Trussell food bank isn’t overwhelmed (yet!) so it makes sense to donate elsewhere location wise.

If anyone can point me in the right direction - please do! Flowers

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 23/10/2020 20:30

Thank you @Parker231. I’ve donated thanks to the link you provided. I also have a giganto bag of food / hygiene products / cleaning stuff for our local food bank which I’m taking in on Sunday.

P1g1ntheMuggle · 23/10/2020 20:38

My local shop had a sign & box requesting donations
I donated today & I will again

Millie2013 · 23/10/2020 20:38

We donated a bag of food towards the school harvest foodbank collection this week, will collect some more this next week

Our local foodbank compiles lists of most needed items (and lists of what they have lots of), so it’s easy to buy accordingly

Parker231 · 23/10/2020 20:47

Thank you everyone. I didn’t think I would get so many positive responses.

@Badgerbadger22 - every foodbank will have a list of their shortage items in your area in my opening post but if you wanted to donate to any area where the foodbank might be used more at the moment, perhaps somewhere currently in tier 3 where people may now be loosing their job?

I had a dentist appointment today and my dentist donated a big bag of toothbrushes and full size toothpastes they had received from one of their suppliers.

I wish my local Aldi had a drop off point, that's where I do my weekly shop. I do donate when I go to Tesco but you don't get as much for the money.

OkyDoke · 23/10/2020 21:22

Donated my tesco vouchers too and made a donation of food last week ❤

thepeopleversuswork · 23/10/2020 21:35

I've just donated but also wondering if many foodbanks do Saturday donation drop-offs? I can't really do it during the week.

Ireallywantsomechips · 23/10/2020 21:37

I think I might be being a bit thick here OP could you help me?

I’ve gone on the link and my absolutely massive town doesn’t have a food bank, the next nearest one is 25 mins away in a much smaller town. Would that be right? Seems odd my town doesn’t have one, I know there are a lot of people in need here and the small town is a wealthy one.

Is there anywhere I can find what supermarkets have a donation section? I do my shopping at Aldi who don’t have one

Parker231 · 23/10/2020 21:38

The one I volunteer at isn’t open on a weekend but the website has the details of drop off points, many of which are supermarkets, for weekend drop offs.

I haven’t read the Trussell list yet but our local food bank was especially grateful for non dairy / plant based milks and GF products as they are supporting a few families with allergies / specific dietary requirements.

During the first covid surge I took bleach / antiseptic type stuff as well as people were so scared of the virus.

vangoghing · 23/10/2020 22:15

The one thing I'd say (as a food bank volunteer myself!) is that lots of places funded through Trussel Trust, people can't just turn up - they need a referral from GP/social worker etc - I used to volunteer for a TT food bank but stopped as I saw so many getting turned away; trying googling "non referral food banks near me" to get a list of independent ones near you!

The link is just to Trussell Trust-run foodbanks, I think. Our local food bank is independently run. If you google your town name & ‘foodbank’ you should get your local one.

Individual supermarkets often have individual links. In ours, Lidl, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Tesco & Morrison’s have donation bins. It’s really a case of keeping your eyes open for them - or ask a manager to set one up.

waitforitwaitforit · 23/10/2020 22:31

I've set up a monthly direct debit because I kept forgetting to donate and feeling guilty. It's going to be so hard for them over the next few months.

CSIblonde · 23/10/2020 22:35

Donated. Also put a bag of stuff in our Tesco's foodbank collection point box.

nocoolnamesleft · 23/10/2020 22:45

Thanks for the link.

Alternista · 23/10/2020 22:47

Are Trussell religious? No offence, i’d just rather donate to one that wasn’t.

Parker231 · 23/10/2020 22:53

I’m quite anti religion - The Trussell foodbanks are an anti-poverty charity founded on Christian principles. They work
with people of all faiths and none faith.
