Pharmacy will not allow one parent and two children in

Does this seem like madness to you ?

I think it’s particularly awful as it’s a pharmacy, so people’s health could be involved. Really bad and not sure they are allowed to do this if they offer a prescription service - maybe there’s some kind of pharmacy ombudsman you could report them to?

@ilovesooty

To clarify, it sounds very distressing for the customer but I don't think it's discrimination.
It's discrimination against parents and carers.

There's also a respectable argument for saying it's discrimination against women, as statistically they are more likely to be in the position of caring for small children on their own.

flaviaritt · 23/10/2020 17:03

That’s crazy.

TheMShip · 23/10/2020 17:04

It's indirect discrimination on the basis of sex. Sex is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act. Indirect discrimination against a class of people occurs when a policy unintentionally excludes them from a service. In this case, women are the class discriminated against because there are many more of them with sole care of young dependent children than there are men.

TheMShip · 23/10/2020 17:05

This is the same argument used successfully in court against letting agencies which had refused to even show properties to people on benefits.

compulsiveliar2019 · 23/10/2020 17:07

I'd be making a complaint personally. I would have done so after the headline incident and I definitely would now. People like that shouldn't work in customer facing roles. Particularly when she is potentially coming into contact with vulnerable people. With so many doctors doing electronic prescriptions direct to the pharmacy it's not like you get much choice where you pick them up from either.

Even if she couldn't allow the children into the shops she could have brought the medication out of the shop to her. Our pharmacy is tiny. It's one in one out. So you go in and give your name ect, pay and then wait outside and they bring it out to you.

Miljea · 23/10/2020 17:09

Made me 'smile' wanly. Our local pharmacy is staffed by a pair of harridans. They've been power-mad over lockdown; I really don't know how they get away with being so rude!

They also seem to have no idea where to find prescriptions; they hunt high and low every single time.

But they backed off a bit once they realised I am friends with one of the locum pharmacists!

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/10/2020 17:10

Poor woman. Awful behaviour. How is she supposed to access care?

RB68 · 23/10/2020 17:11

They are clearly a bubble so not even applying the rules properly - sometimes common sense has to rule.

Parents and carers aren't a protected characteristic as mentioned by a pp.

I suppose there might conceivably be a case for indirect discrimination but in any case the person who felt they had been discriminated against would have to pursue it. I think going down the customer service route would be far more productive.

@Lardlizard

Nanny0gg

Did you say anything to the pharmacist?
No all I did was offer for for me to watch her kids
But they didn’t want to stay with me
Then she was gone
I was actually in shock

It wasn’t just what that lady did it was the Way she did it
Really aggressive and antigonistic

But I’ve experience that lady’s Customer service before and it’s nasty

Plus she actually gives wrong advice
It’s

Then its worth talking to the pharmacist surely?
PurpleDaisies · 23/10/2020 17:15

@Lardlizard

The customer did say they are only children’s And children are not normally counted and the pharmacy woman actually shouted out her they are still people !! But she did it in a really nasty way
Were they saying there were too many people in the shop?

I’m trying to picture exactly what happened.

ilovesooty · 23/10/2020 17:17

My pharmacy is lovely but one in one out. If that posed a problem someone would bring stuff to the doorway or just inside. They wouldn't turn you away. The area has a lot of single parents who need to bring their children.

Time2change2 · 23/10/2020 17:17

Where in the country is this? Where I am, there are hardly any shops restricting numbers anymore! Hardly and one way systems in place either

Faultymain5 · 23/10/2020 17:18

@unmarkedbythat

Wtaf is wrong with us at the moment? 25% of voters so far think this is fine. How is it fine? What is a single parent of more than one child supposed to do?

And @MainliningMarzipan, she's not telling you which way to vote, she's telling you which button means which answer in the post she has made, your comment is utterly inane.

Soemthing to do with mercury in retrograde and moons I thinkSmile.

I read that and smiled.

PurpleDaisies · 23/10/2020 17:18

My pharmacy is lovely but one in one out.

Surely that would be one household in and out for a single parent with young children?

CornishTiger · 23/10/2020 17:18

Independent means it’s harder to know who to complain to but you really must try and do so. You witnessed it and didn’t intervene. You need to now.

PurpleDaisies · 23/10/2020 17:18

I had to queue for m and s food this morning. I’m in the south west with hardly any Covid.
Whatwouldscullydo · 23/10/2020 17:19

aren't women supposed to go to the chemist for DV atm?

Shit.. poor woman I really hope she wasn't there for that.Sad

What are parents supposed to do you cant leave small children outside alone,

Wilbedon · 23/10/2020 17:19

This happened to me. I had to leave two children outside, one of whom has SN. I had to pick up the medication as it is vital and life saving. DS1 was stimming so much that he was getting in people's way outside. It was horrible.

I'm not sure. It's been very quiet when I've been there and the last few times only single people were waiting. I'm sure though that they would help anyone to access what they needed
Faultymain5 · 23/10/2020 17:22

@satnighttakeaway

Have you complained to the owners of the shop? That would seem to be the obvious thing to do or speak directly to the assistant herself.

And btw I agree with @MainliningMarzipan no one needs to be instructed on how to vote in a wholly non compulsory feature

Another one.

No-one was being told how to vote, they were being told the voting options as in many PP experience it is not always clear. So clarity may have been required.

We all know voting is optional.

movingonup20 · 23/10/2020 17:22

This seems stupid in the extreme! Our pharmacy luckily has a window for out of hours medication but you can ring it anytime if you don't want to go inside, eg double buggies that don't fit, a lady with a dog yesterday even.

Was it there were already too many in the shop for a family of 3 so she needed to wait outside until others were finished perhaps?
