I’m over weight so craving something healthy is super good. Trouble is I don’t k ow what it is that I’m craving. I want to eat something healthy and warm. Not soup. This craving keeps happening every lunchtime and it’s frustrating not knowing what it is that I want!!

I get you - it's much easier in summer when you can have a salad! My go to right now is:

Roast beetroot, butternut squash and red onion with some goats cheese or feta sprinkled over

Pita bread filled with tuna mayo, in the oven with a little bit of cheese on top and salad on the side

Scrambled eggs on rye bread

Heck chicken sausages with low sugar baked beans

SpringSunshineandTulips · 22/10/2020 13:51

Roasted veg sounds good. Maybe I will try that tomorrow and see if it satisfies the craving.

I have this and I know what it is. It's a ramen dish from Wagamama, the broth is delicious. I've tried replicating it myself but it's not the same

What about batch cooking a lovely warming stew full of veggies & lean meat, you can freeze in portions & eat as required!

ThisIsntMeHonestGuv · 22/10/2020 14:07

If you fancy something sweet, overnight oats bunged in the microwave for a minute is great. Who says you can't have breakfast for lunch...

What about a vegetable curry/Moroccan style stew made with lentils and apricots?

Lentil dhal over roasted root veg is AMAZING!

Sairafina · 22/10/2020 14:23

Jacket sweet potato usually hits the spot for me!

AtleastitsnotMonday · 22/10/2020 14:46

Try this shakshuka

A lovely omelette with a nice green salad with French dressing?

Roast veggies are a good call - peppers are great and broccoli works surprisingly well too.

30not13 · 23/10/2020 21:16

When I crave healthy stuff it seems to be the texture of something I need, usually crisp orcrunchy

OHappyDay · 23/10/2020 21:30

I would love a rotisserie chicken with a big salad, sundried tomatoes, olives etc
Maybe if I wasn’t trying to be too healthy I would have a bit of crusty baguette with some butter with it

Skysblue · 23/10/2020 23:45

Smoked mackerel with salad

FatGirlShrinking · 24/10/2020 00:03

Greenbeans, asparagus, babycorn and sugar snap peas.

Steam them then put a teaspoon of real butter, lots of black pepper and some salt, some finely sliced spring onions and bits of cooked chicken (sandwich meat). Eat while warm and once the butter has melted.

DrCoconut · 25/10/2020 10:04

Stir fry. Or something warm with salad on the side. Like omelette or something.

dudsville · 25/10/2020 10:08

A roast with lots of veg, or a homemade veg curry or chilli, veg stir fr.y

Wellsbells · 25/10/2020 10:13

I am loving roasted carrots at the moment! Sprinkle with (a little) olive oil, honey and vinegar and roast until really soft. So nice!

OwlinaTree · 25/10/2020 10:18

Omelette with lots of veg is my favourite.

ChickensMightFly · 25/10/2020 10:19

Toasted pine kernels. Yum

GiraffeNecked · 25/10/2020 10:23

I quite often make a winter coleslaw when I feel like this and dress with olive Oil mustard and vinegar not mayo. Toasted nuts on top can be nice. I like it with some chicken strips in a wrap or some fish.

Also nice with a curry as a side if you dress with lime juice chillis snd rice wine vinegar.

XiCi · 25/10/2020 10:26

A lovely stew filled with vegetables such as a pot au feu? A coconut based curry?

XiCi · 25/10/2020 10:28

Why not soup? just out of interest, as it seems to fit your bill. A really hearty goulash soup for example or green lentil?

Mollscroll · 25/10/2020 10:29

Kedgeree? I find it very comforting but it’s relatively healthy. Better than pizza anyway.

ClareBlue · 25/10/2020 10:37

And off we all go to try out 20 different recipesGrin I feel like I could eat them all today, which probably defeats the healthy part.

ClareBlue · 25/10/2020 10:39

Lime Juice chillies....off shopping now

Acornsgalore · 25/10/2020 10:41

Listen to your body, if you are craving something , you are probably missing a vitamin or mineral.

Are you lacking in iron? If so, broccoli and chickpeas are good things to eat.

Or maybe B12 vitamins? If so, how about some oily fish like sardines on toast (mashed with lemon juice and parsley and black pepper) or smoked mackerel salad with horseradish?

Or try some scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. That is full of good nutrients. Eggs have lots of vitamin d.

Or are you lacking in vitamin c? If so, red peppers, strawberries, kiwi and pineapple should sort you out.

I know you say you don't want soup, but a good home made chicken soup is unbeatable as a good "tonic" :

I like the winter coleslaw idea btw Giraffenecked. I much prefer the vinaigrette version too. Agree it goes really well with chicken strips and love the Asian inspired flavours with it too.
