Neighbour and driveway AIBU

Nonamesavail · 20/10/2020 18:03

Our driveways are connected. There is a garage width each side. NDN does not drive. Neighbour has complained to landlord that:

My wingmirror of my car goes over her boundary line.

My kids step over the line onto her drive occasionally they exit the car.

My bin was full of alcohol bottles. (We are both teetotal and it would be none of her business anyway)

She complained that my bin smelt in summer but then complained that I cleaned my bin and the water went over to her driveway and has chipped it?

She complains we brought a too big car (big standard 7 seater and we have 4 kids)

Complains I start my car and leave at 9am for work.

Has she lost the plot. AIBU?

For the record I knew she was a bit precious over it so we deliberately try NOT to even be remotely close to the line...but it's getting ridiculous now, she stares at me every time I go out and now she is moaning to the landlord.

Wave cheerfully, big (fake) smile every time you go out and see her watching you. Then carry on with whatever it is you're doing.

It will drive her barmy.

Charleyhorses · 20/10/2020 19:50

Tell the landlord to stop passing on her complaints.

Nonamesavail · 20/10/2020 19:52

Good points here, thank you. I've been here about 18mths and she has not had a visitor or taxi park there that I know of. Mad!

@Nonamesavail It’s all she has in the world to occupy herself with Hmm. You’ll have to just be polite and completely ignore her complaints. It sounds like everyone knows she has issues!

Nottherealslimshady · 20/10/2020 19:59

Well you shouldn't be washing you bin onto her property Envy or walking on her driveway, or parking overhanging onto her property.

But she's unreasonable about the start time, what you put in your bin and what car you bought (except you seem to have bought a car that doesn't fit on your drive so that's why she'll be annoyed)

Chloemol · 20/10/2020 20:21

Every time I pull in and see her I would be giving a cheery wave so she knows you know, and if she is outside a cheery good morning/ afternoon

If you can fold your wing mirrors I would do that

Then leave her to it

Nonamesavail · 20/10/2020 20:33

The drive ways are tiny. My last car was a VW golf and she still complained but this has escalated now. Even in a mini you would be very close to her line!

I didn't wash my bin on her driveway. I washed it on mine, the drain is in the middle of the boundary lines and thats where I brushed the water too...a few splashes went on her side (she only knew as she watched me!).

Fold your mirror in.. Take pics of your car if you see her watching..

romeolovedjulliet · 20/10/2020 20:42

this sounds like 'return to puddle gate' the new block buster movie of the year [if your local cinema is open]

BakedTattie · 20/10/2020 20:43

She sounds mental. Ignore

myusernamewastakenbyme · 20/10/2020 20:44

Someone needs to tell her to fuck off !!!

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 20/10/2020 20:48

Tell her that you are not going to listen to any verbal complaints from her any longer and any issues she has in future must be made in writing to your landlord.

He can then happily ignore the letters and you can happily ignore her.

Ohtherewearethen · 20/10/2020 20:51

I'd start filming every time you park your car and she is watching. Make sure you narrate it quite clearly. "Just arrived home, Ms X is watching my children and me again. I've parked very carefully, making sure my wing mirror doesn't encroach on the air above her driveway...."
If she asks what you are doing tell her you've been advised to keep records of everything that's been going on. If she asks by whom just tap the side of your nose and ask if Trunky wants a bun.

SynchroSwimmer · 20/10/2020 20:55

Could you kill her with kindness - get your children to go round with a cake, some chocolate the next week - she will be confused, maybe enough to stop?

FixTheBone · 20/10/2020 20:57

Next time she complains, mention that her exhaled breath has crossed the property boundary, and, you'd prefer it if it didn't.

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 20/10/2020 22:14

She sounds like a pain in the arse but I'd just fold in the mirror and not let the dc go over the line. And ignore her.

Whether she uses her drive or has visitors isn't relevant.

ExclamationPerfume · 21/10/2020 07:55

Surely if your wing mirror is over her drive then you must step on her drive to get out of your car? If you do then that is wrong. It's her land not yours.

Roselilly36 · 21/10/2020 08:01

Just ignore it OP, you aren’t doing anything wrong. LL obviously knows neighbour is unreasonable, I wouldn’t worry.

FartingInTheFence · 21/10/2020 09:13

Whenever she is watching you - film her.

And exclaim you're putting her on YouTube.

If you feel brave, people like this neighbour of yours deserve a daily delivery of dogshit through their letterbox to keep them occupied.

Nonamesavail · 21/10/2020 09:15

She said my mirror was over her drive but I dont recall this happening, same as the bottles in my bin it sounds a bit fabricated. I want to take a picture to show that these driveways make it impossible to go anywhere else though. The only way to be certain is to park outside her house like everyone else on the street that has 2 cars does. (We only have 1).

OP posts:
FartingInTheFence · 21/10/2020 09:23

Most car door mirrors can be up to 7" - even for a massive 4x4.

So that is encroaching her drive? That specific part is a hindrance?

Tell her to fuck off.

Unless she is specifically using that part of her drive to masturbate on each day or cook dinner, she has no grounds for complaint because the mirror is attached to YOUR car, not her drive.

Seriously, shit through her letterbox. She deserves it.

OldEvilOwl · 21/10/2020 09:40

Waiting for someone to suggest going over there with a cake or chocolates and trying to befriend her! She sounds badshit, Ignore her. What the hell does she think a bit of water is going to do to her drive?

Lunariagal · 21/10/2020 09:49

I agree that this constitutes harassment.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 21/10/2020 09:59

@OldEvilOwl someone already has !!!

I dont understand why people pander to this behaviour...she needs a short sharp shock or it will escalate...this should have been nipped in the bud the first time she complained....stand up to her now Op or she will continue to walk all over you.

kursaalflyer · 21/10/2020 10:20

Agree with PP, if your wing mirrors are over how do you get out of the car?
