Putting household rubbish in public bin?

CathTurnbull · 18/10/2020 16:19

I really don’t care- just curious if others do this.

I can see a small public rubbish bin on the road from my window. Everyday at around the same time a woman parks her car outside the bin and puts in a full carrier bag of rubbish. She then takes her dog for a walk nearby before returning to her car. She does the same thing everyday.

Is it possible she has no bin in her home?

Why would someone do this?

Is this a thing?

Maybe she picks it up outside

Aquamarine1029 · 18/10/2020 16:21

My first thought is that she's getting rid of things she doesn't want anyone/partner/family to see.

ToastyCrumpet · 18/10/2020 16:23

If she lives in a flat without a wheelie bin maybe?

ChibiTotoro · 18/10/2020 16:23

Maybe she does a regular litter pick?

outofthemoon · 18/10/2020 16:24

Litter picking. I do it too.

Heatherjayne1972 · 18/10/2020 16:24

Well our council are just about to give us all, regardless of family size, wheelie bins which are at least a third smaller
Perhaps she’s struggling with a tiny wheelie bin and this is a better option than dumping it in the woods

HardAsSnails · 18/10/2020 16:24

I had a neighbour who used to do this, lived alone, never put her bins out, used to take bags of rubbish with her in her car. Then she got rid of her car and started sneaking around putting rubbish in other neighbour's bins. She had her own set of the various bins in her garage but never used them. ''Twas very weird.

bigchris · 18/10/2020 16:24

Maybe she's got a large family and all her rubbish doesn't fit in one wheelie bin that only gets collected every fortnight

CaptainHammer · 18/10/2020 16:24

I do this when we have something stinky like takeaway packaging to get rid off. We live in a flat with no outdoor bin.

At least it’s in a bin and not dumped somewhere.

CathTurnbull · 18/10/2020 16:26

Ah I hadn’t thought of litter picking- that’s probably what she’s doing

My mum does this with the remains of fish because she doesn't want it in her bin and making it smelly, so she walks down the road and puts it in a public bin.

JaceLancs · 18/10/2020 16:27

Can’t answer why this particular person does this
I visit DM once a week with shopping (she’s 81 with Alzheimer’s) I also clear her fridge and cupboards of out of date stuff then take it with me
I put it in next litter bin I drive past on my way home (usually same one so people may see me who live nearby)
If I left it in DMs bin she would either take it back out again or depending on how she is would be upset at how bad she has got

ShirleyPhallus · 18/10/2020 16:27

@outofthemoon

Litter picking. I do it too.
Maybe you’re the woman the OP can see. Give a wave to the windows around you next time and the OP can come back and confirm
Nancydowns · 18/10/2020 16:28

Maybe she's a secret eater. She scoffs in the car and then throws the evidence in the bin.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/10/2020 16:28

Actually don’t do a wave. Too boring. Maybe a cartwheel instead

DoesThisMakeSence · 18/10/2020 16:28

I honestly thought you where talking about my neighbour but she doesn't have a dog. I have never knowen anyone else to do this.
We have big communal bins. She says its too much hassle do go down stairs, to the backdoor then up stairs to the bin so she takes it with her and finds a bin wherever she goes.
Stange but it works for her Smile

twobrews · 18/10/2020 16:48

On our walk home from school we see a guy who deposits a collection of bottles and cans in the bin on his way home. I think he's a secret drinker as it's only ever bottles and cans but DH thinks he's a litter picker.

Londonmummy66 · 18/10/2020 17:18

Very typical behaviour for someone with binge eating disorder as they are so ashamed of what they do. To be honest @Nancydowns your post is not very compassionate. My daughter has this condition and the self loathing the "scoffing" generates is heart breaking to watch.

Yes, I do this. My bin is only emptied every 3 weeks. I have seen other people doing it too. I don’t really care if people see me or what they think. As a pp said at least it’s in a bin
Sh05 · 18/10/2020 18:04

We used to do this at my parents occasionally, especially if it was takeaway containers as household bins are emptied fortnightly and the rubbish was too bulky.
Our local lollipop lady also does a litter picking session on her way to her crossing and the rubbish bag goes in the Street bin near there

Cbatothinkofausername · 18/10/2020 18:16

Pretty please check the contents next time. I’m so over invested in this mystery. Grin
Macncheeseballs · 19/10/2020 08:37

A few bins around here where people just dump stuff in and out of the bin, I hate it

TroysMammy · 19/10/2020 08:43

It's not as bad as the disgusting dog walker who dropped a dog poo bag in my food waste bin the council had just emptied. Now I've got to wait a fortnight to dispose of it in my household rubbish. On second thoughts there is always a public bin.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/10/2020 09:08

The drains are too risky? (Dennis Nilsen...)

nosswith · 19/10/2020 09:10

I've never seen this but glad litter is not being dumped.
