Sorry for longstanding mumsnetters if this is another groundhog day topic.
Are we just not all people who want the best for our kids? Can't we have an interesting discussion based on experience and background without resorting to mudslinging based upon someone's background or political leanings?
I often come on mumsnet to learn things from people who do not share my background, current environment or opinions. I am quite willing to be wrong and change my opinion based upon discussions I take part in here.

I sometimes go on a thread that seems totally harmless, you know the type of thing 'My budgie chirps too loudly' only to get to the end and find it's an all out war!!!

I have no problems with people having different opinions, but when they go for the throat over the slightest thing and get personal:
"Well i had my budgie for 5 years not two so I know better than you"
"Are you calling me a pikey then?"
Thats when i think it is a bit out of order!!

By the way i did make that thread up before someone kicks off

FrannyandZooey · 13/10/2007 13:55

I want to know what thread 2hot2care got slammed on

I keep reading references to it and it is making me nosy

suey I remember when I was new and very polite to everyone. It doesn't last forever

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 13/10/2007 14:09

Firstly 2hot, you were being not only sexist, but rude to long standing mumsnetters and people were annoyed.
Secondly it doesnt make you big, nor clever to keep dragghing it round the board, this is the second thread I have seen it mentioned on today.
here is your 'controversial' or some may say downright rude and pigheaded thread. Keep your arguments on there. FGS.

ChantillyLace · 13/10/2007 14:11

I try hard to put my point across without offending anyone. Sometimesit's hard to be objective when OPs argument is flawed from the beginning but then freedom of speech and all that, let them have their say as long as everyone can have theirs too.

There will always be differences of opinion in everything we do, that's what makes us all interesting.

F&Z - think the thread that refers to is the 'no men on MN' thread. 2hot was not very popular! That thread in itself was a good example, the mud slinging that went on by OP and responders got silly and out of hand.

FWIW it annoyed the hell out of me and comments were made to people that shouldnt have been, but that was her opinion and she's entitled to air it.

I love a good debate, heated or otherwise!

FrannyandZooey · 13/10/2007 14:12

oh THAT thing

didn't it go on and on? Why did it drag on for days?

lissiethevampireslayer · 13/10/2007 14:17

i like the diversity of mn and really dont see a "us & them" thing. of course some peole get on/agree more than others, but thats true everywhere.. although i do think that mn can be quite difficult to break into at times, its worth persevering, ive met some wonderful people on here and some that i would rather not have a rl drink with(sounds a bit cliquey but its true)

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 13/10/2007 14:17

It went on and on because every time someone made a comment about her OP or what she had said she insulted either the male population as a whole or implied those of us with male friends were sluts.

It wasa typical example of AIBU?? No, of course I'm not even though you all think I am........

Habbibu · 13/10/2007 14:17

Franny, anyone asking that question is probably in mortal danger of restarting the whole thing, and it was so beautifully killed with talk of flipcharts.

Leave it!

lissiethevampireslayer · 13/10/2007 14:18

btw, now avoid threads which are contraversial from the beginning. i'd rather stay in the tea shop

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 13/10/2007 14:20

I agree Habbibu, after telling 2hot not to drag it round the board, I have aided her efforts, so am now going to STFU.

FrannyandZooey · 13/10/2007 14:43

Oh yes, I do apologise

I just really could not face reading 965 posts or whatever of it, so I am grateful to you for appeasing my curiosity

2hot2care · 13/10/2007 21:42

actually lorayningwhatever; i do not keep "bringing up" that thread. im only mentioning my experience because it relates to this particular thread.
and i was not rude. never.
i never called anyone a slut. again prime example of people twisting whats said.

3andnogore · 13/10/2007 21:48

who is us and who is them?
[pondering emoticon to work out in which category I am, lol]

3andnogore · 13/10/2007 21:49

.....erm......, 2hot you never called anyone it, but the way your posts were worded it was pretty much ..erm...implied!

GreebosWhiskers · 13/10/2007 21:52

Actually I thought the 'no men on MN' thread was a wind-up.

Still think so.

Habbibu · 14/10/2007 08:49

Flip charts - pros and cons? Have they been superceded by the electronic whiteboard?

2hot2care · 14/10/2007 11:08

why cant we all just except our differences, try and get on and keep a sense of humour.

< runs away ducking >

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 14/10/2007 11:24

2nd thread it was mentioned on 2hot, not first, you are going round wearing it like a badge of pride.
As for sluts, telling me men had me 'exactly where they wanted me'???

As for the OP suey, I dont think I've ever really gotten into one of those threads really, I have argued my POV, quite vehemently at times, but some of the people I have agreed with most are definitely living a life very different to mine, also, I have totally disagreed with some people at the beginning of a thread, ending up understanding and respecting their POV an awful lot at the end of the thread or meeting them on a different thread and thinking how much sense the were talking.

Habbibu · 14/10/2007 11:26

Think about flowcharts, Lorayn, I beg you!

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 14/10/2007 11:28

I don't do flowcharts!!!
However I am now going to breathe calmly and think about the lovely walk I am going on today.
Uffington is a beautiful place, that men and women alike can enjoy

2hot2care · 14/10/2007 11:40

lorayningwhatever;

sorry if that remark upset you. i am learning to think about what i say before i type away and upset whole of mn.

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 14/10/2007 11:52

2hot have you ever been to Uffington??

2hot2care · 14/10/2007 11:56

no never, where is it?

In oxfordshire, apparently St.George killed a dragon on dragon hill, which is just below a white horse carved in chalk on the hillside. It's very beautiful.
