To think fussy people ordering coffee should always be in a separate queue

Drives me mad. I just want to buy a sandwich, and in front of me is someone ordering 4 coffees with very exacting requirements.

@mumsiedarlingrevolta

I was in Costa the other day getting an iced latte.

I looked at the board and saw they had two sizes so asked for the large.

There is no large. Only small and medium. How can something be medium without there being a large?

slightly off the point but it is a coffee shop annoyance

And even the small one is only small in relation to the other one, it's still the size of a child's beach bucket.
IcedPurple · 17/10/2020 14:16

And I agree on the toilet thing. I know that some people may have health conditions that means they may take a bit longer in there but it feels to me that the majority of women spend AGES in the cubicle and they can't all have IBS etc!

This is MN. Everyone has a chronic medical condition and/or food allergy. Or several.

RizzleDrizzle · 17/10/2020 14:28

*You couldn’t get any more superior than this post.

Ok so you have a genuine reason for wanting a “special” coffee but it’s still a non essential item*
Everyone in the queue is buying non essential items

Disfordarkchocolate · 17/10/2020 14:35

Fancy coffee is a pain the backside. I have sat down with my nice quick tea and silently tried to calculate how much time we waste in queues while complicated coffee orders are filler. Now I need chocolate!!

SameToo · 17/10/2020 14:37

I ask for oat milk because if I had regular milk I’d shit myself within about 30 mins and be ill for a couple of days. Allergies are a thing.

But yeah, sorry for getting in your way Hmm

coldwinternightsbrrr · 17/10/2020 14:39

@MuserOwl

My Dad in starbucks ten years ago

"I want a cup of coffee and no questions "

😂😂😂😂 Love this! Might have to start using it might self
waitingfortheknightbus · 17/10/2020 14:46

I’m dairy free. Allergies and stuff. And my requirements are “regular latte with oat milk please”

Really is quite simple! Grin I can’t stand it when people get all fussy at the queue. Moon on a stick people

waitingfortheknightbus · 17/10/2020 14:49

But asking for oat milk isn’t being picky / fussy.

I’m sure the OP is talking about those who request all sorts of additional crap like sprinkles, foam, decaf / half caf, syrups etc etc etc

Literally asking for a different type of milk doesn’t slow the queue down.

And don’t pretend like you’re offended on behalf of all people with allergies either 😂 we aren’t all snowflakes

Hardbackwriter · 17/10/2020 14:53

Are you a stand-up comedian from the 90s? If so, I think it's time to move on and get some new material - 'I just want a normal bloody cup of coffee!' has has its day

LolaSmiles · 17/10/2020 15:02

I couldn't care less what the person in front is ordering as long as they make their order, pay and then go to the end to pick it up.

Does it really affect me if someone says they'd like a decaf soya latte rather than a normal latte? Does it really take hours longer to pick up and pour different milks?

Ditherers on the other hand, they do annoy me because they get to the front of the queue and seem surprised they have to order something from the board they've been staring at for the last 10 minutes.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 17/10/2020 15:06

@CounsellorTroi that made me laugh. brilliant mental image!

6PeopleInAPubSafeHomeUnsafe · 17/10/2020 15:08

You'd love my order OP:
Large sugar free vanilla soya latte with an extra shot, if costa for example where they use coconut milk I have to have a discussion about me being allergic to coconut too so they use properly clean "non dairy" equipment.

HarveysPJs · 17/10/2020 15:08

@waitingfortheknightbus yes, that’s completely right! It’s wrong to assume I’m putting people with allergies in my fussy queue - or that people with allergies are fussy. That’s not my point at all. I’m putting the Niles Cranes of this world in my fussy queue.

OP posts:
HarveysPJs · 17/10/2020 15:10

@6PeopleInAPubSafeHomeUnsafe I’m very happy for you to order that! Do you also order 4 of them in National Trust cafes - and if so - would it be ok if I got my ice cream v. quickly in a different queue? Wink

Mascaramademehappy · 17/10/2020 15:14

I must admit I get the silent rage when someone in front asks for an almond milk pumpkin spice latte with caramel and 3 green sweetners, iced.

waitingfortheknightbus · 17/10/2020 15:15

@HarveysPJs I totally get it!

I love Niles Crane. I worry my son is going to be fussy like that Grin they’re remarkably similar.

I have a sneaky suspicion I’m going to be in hospital for a few days soon (unwell and long term problems) i probably won’t be allowed to have a Costa coffee but I really fancy one!

I’ll have to sneak one in before I go

@waitingfortheknightbus very best wishes. Gosh I definitely let you order any coffee you wanted, and take as long as you like if I knew it was your last one for a while x

There should be a separate queue for people who say “errr” all the time, people who talk to their kids about what they want at the counter “No, Ralph, there’s lemon and barley or lime and passion fruit - no kiwi. What do you want?” And a separate queue for “Can I get...?”

IcedPurple · 17/10/2020 15:30

"Can I get?" inspires irrational annoyance in me. Then again, so do most silly Americanisms.

I don't know if you 'can get' it or not. All I need to know is what beverage you would like me to serve you.

waitingfortheknightbus · 17/10/2020 15:32

@RizzleDrizzle I think you’ve taken the OP out of context.

🤦🏻‍♀️ We’ve already established that this isn’t about allergies as asking for diary free milk doesn’t take additional nano seconds.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/10/2020 15:41

I’m not sure why people think alternative milk to dairy takes longer to heat up? It’s just a case of reaching for a different jug...

As for the ‘just a coffee, no questions’ people. If they are rude about it and depending on my mood they’d get a single espresso or a large latte. Both are just coffees and if I’m not given a clear instruction then how else am I supposed to know what you mean other than Mind reading.

Yes! Nothing more irritating that people ordering what I call wankerccinos.

cologne4711 · 17/10/2020 16:13

Fussy people ordering anything should be in a separate queue.

The ones who always get me are the ones who spend ages checking in/dropping luggage at the airport. The rest of us hand over our passports, weigh our bags and we're done, but they have to spend 10 minutes asking a million questions. Can there be a separate desk for first time flyers, please Grin
