Parking

I know I’ll get shot down for this but ..
we have lived in our house for eleven years and my husband has always parked his works van across from our house. We have one car in our driveway which only takes one car. Next door has room for two cars in their drive. Since the son has passed his test, with his car and his girlfriends car, they are parking we’re my husband has parked for years. They always make sure their is a car parked in the space across the road so my dh can’t park his works van there. So they have three cars including mum and dads. I know there is nothing we can do about it as the parking space across the road is for everyone. I’m just having a rant as they are cheeky fuckers. The girlfriend parks in the space every bloody night and she dosent even live in the street. My dh has to park the van wherever. With all his work tools in it. He can’t see the van from the house now. Grrrrrr

Hilarious that you are a CF but think they are. You have no right to the public road & it's so rude that you haven't been parking the van on your own drive for years.

You know you're going to get flamed as you're in the wrong but really can't see anything wrong with your actions? I get that it's frustrating you can't have the easy Option anymore but you were never entitled to it

TheDuchessofMalfy · 16/10/2020 12:11

People don’t always want a works van in front of their house as it’s often all you can see, and that’s not the case with most cars.

What’s wrong with works vans? Typical snob! Not everyone has office jobs.

They tend to be bigger than cars and block light to windows.

Also, people visiting are just as entitled to park as people who live there, so your mention of the gf not living there isn't really relevant.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 16/10/2020 12:14

I hate fucking works vans parked outside my house but I have to live with it because I don't own the roadway. Tough shit!

Shopkinsdoll · 16/10/2020 12:15

He never parked his van in our driveway before as it blocks the view from the neighbours kitchen. Her kitchen faces our drive. Who wants to look out of a window and see a big blue van? But we have been parking there all week as he can’t have his tools sitting in the street somewhere out of sight.

I think you'd be better off asking for advice for how to stop it bothering you!

Comefromaway · 16/10/2020 12:21

Don't leave tools in the van overnight. We tell our workers that they will be responsible for replacement/will have their van taken off them if they do that as they are not insured.

MrsBrunch · 16/10/2020 12:21

My dh parked in that space overnight for years

Someone else's turn now then. Don't be a greedy fucker.

NerrSnerr · 16/10/2020 12:26

I just think it’s bloody cheeky that the girlfriend who dosent live in the bloody area park in the space.

Doesn't matter where she lives, someone could come from China to park in that space and they still wouldn't be cheeky.

But their out of sight at night - unless of course he stays up all night watching his van Hmm
Hopingtobeamum · 16/10/2020 12:28

Go buy another house with a bigger drive. Easy

Shopkinsdoll · 16/10/2020 12:29

I know we aren’t entitled to the space, I said this from the start. Omg mumsnet really cracks me up!

I just said we have started putting the van in the driveway, but it blocks the neighbours light from her kitchen.

LtJudyHopps · 16/10/2020 12:33

If he’s parking it there overnight so it’s not blocking her light as it will be dark at 4pm in a few weeks 😉

Billben · 16/10/2020 12:38

I’m just having a rant as they are cheeky fuckers.

They aren’t. But you seem an entitled fucker.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/10/2020 12:40

I just think it’s bloody cheeky that the girlfriend who dosent live in the bloody area park in the space.

If you wanted to be pedantic about it, you could equally say that the GF is the one with the right idea, as she has used a personal vehicle for its intended purpose and has now left it close to where she needed it to transport her to for a short period, whereas everybody else has completely missed the point of vehicles as things that are supposed to move by just leaving them parked right outside where they live anyway!!

Shopkinsdoll · 16/10/2020 12:44

It’s blocking her light and view.

The irony!

loobyloo1234 · 16/10/2020 12:48

Can he not park across your drive at the end of it, blocking your car in OP?

AntiHop · 16/10/2020 12:50

You sound like hard work op. You know you're being unreasonable, but you are also saying you aren't.

If the girlfriend's car is there, presumably she is in the house at the time? Or is she parking there and then walking to her own home?

sunshinesupermum · 16/10/2020 12:51

Is your husband's van blocking the light of the neighbor with the four cars? If so, worry not. If it's a different neighbour you might have to explain why the van is (rightfully) on your drive. Meanwhile as PPs have said, take the tools out of the van!

SilverOtter · 16/10/2020 12:53

@Malin52

I imagine the people who live across the road are delighted they don't have to look out of their window at someone's eyesore of a 'works van'.
This.
VettiyaIruken · 16/10/2020 12:55

Her light and view can be lost without financial cost to her. It's not great but Your husband's van getting broken into would cost money.
It's a no brainer. If she complains, explain the situation.

murasaki · 16/10/2020 12:57

How much time do peple really spend looking out of their kitchen windows?? washing up can only take so long.

decoraters · 16/10/2020 12:57

I just think it’s bloody cheeky that the girlfriend who dosent live in the bloody area park in the space. My dh parked in that space overnight for years without any probs.

She is not the bloody cheeky one
