Hi everyone. So, I’ve been messaging a guy via email for a while and we agreed to meet a while ago. (Because it’s the 90s and we don’t know about online safety yet.) He didn’t show up and I was heartbroken.

I’ve just found out who the guy is! He’s the guy who put me out of business (the beautiful bookshop my dear dead mother owned), PLUS he found out who I was and lied to me about it (or just didn’t tell me.).

BUT because it’s New York and it’s beautiful and we have this lovely jazzy soundtracks to our conversations - plus he brought me daisies (even though he barged into my house when I was ill and asked him not to) AIBU to think he’s TOTALLY changed - he’s the Darcy to my Elizabeth and we’ll live happily ever after?

I mean, he wiped my tears with an actual handkerchief! If that isn’t the sign of a changed man I don’t know what is.

@decoraters

I don't understand a thing about your post OP Confused
Ots about the movie You've gor Mail staring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan

My son thinks 500 days of summer and About Time are excellent. He has a proper grown up job, but loves a nice romance.

Marisishidinginmyattic · 16/10/2020 20:36

500 days of summer is less a romance and more a “do not be like this man” movie 😂

Saying that though, a lot of romance movies seem to have that message too!

Speaking of this and Sleepless in Seattle, I watched an Affair to Remember recently.

The ending is interesting. Not sure what to make of it

@raddledoldmisanthropist

Read this to my DD. She has some questions:

So, I’ve been messaging a guy via email for a while and we agreed to meet a while ago

Why are you using email? Do you work with him?

He’s the guy who put me out of business (the beautiful bookshop my dear dead mother owned)

What do you mean bookshop? Was your mum an app developer or something? Does the man own amazon?

he wiped my tears with an actual handkerchief!

What's a hankerchief?

I tried to get her to watch the film for context but she 'doesn't like period dramas'.

rofl! brilliant.

I love this film actually, I like Tom Hanks and I think Meg Ryan is a bit whiny and annoying but I still like it. No justification tho. Oh well, he quotes the Godfather.

DH calls it "You've Got Crap Mail" whenever I am found watching it. (see also: Four Crap Weddings and a Funeral and Radio Crap (classicfm to you))

Oh Emmelina I love While You Were Sleeping! Sandra B would deffo play me in a movie (funny face, big mouth, dark hair - yep!). I love that Bill Pullman finally gets the girl after all that Sleepless nonsense.

eggandonion · 16/10/2020 21:17

Assuming we go to total lockdown where I live, I plan to watch all these lovely films. And eat cake.
Dh is a Sandra Bullock fan, especially Miss Congenialty.

I love You've got mail. Watched it with teenage Dd and she was horrified!
She could not get over the fact that I felt any affection what so ever towards a woman who was cheating on her boyfriend. She recoiled in horror when she discovered Meg and Tom where both coupled up. "This is disgusting, I can't believe you can stomach this," we're her exact words. 😬😬😬😬😬
