Am I daft? Felt like I caught someone's eye on a Teams call....

Earlier today there were around ten of us on a Teams call. Loads of small squares. I looked over at someone (neither of us talking) and they quickly looked away - like you do when you're been caught staring at someone...

Am I mad? Obviously people are in different square layouts on different computers. But, there was a definite linking of eyes for a second and then the other person quickly looked away a bit embarrassed. Or at least that's how it looked to me!

AIBU to think they were looking at me? Or am I just bonkers?! Has this happened to anyone else?

This is hilarious

RationalOne · 16/10/2020 09:06

On teams we all look at the camera - so how would a person in a group of 10 look directly at one (giggly, slightly silly, apparently bored woman) and focus on her then look away when caught (Mills and Boon fiction writer)

AriettyHomily · 16/10/2020 09:07

Why yes, yes you are very daft. HTH.

CeibaTree · 16/10/2020 09:15

If it helps, when I'm on a Teams meeting, I'm usually surreptitiously browsing mumsnet on my phone not noticing if anyone if trying to make 'eye-contact' with me 😂

CaptainVanesHair · 16/10/2020 09:15

Yep, impossible. For all you know, you weren’t even on the screen for this person as I’ve found teams has a life of its own when it comes to who is up and where they are.

lioncitygirl · 16/10/2020 09:18

errrrr what now?! Teams layout is different for every person - he may not even have been looking at you..Do you fancy this guy or something?

MadameMeursault · 16/10/2020 09:19

I think he loves you. You should ask him out in a zoom date.

Illberidingshotgun · 16/10/2020 09:32

All this indicates is that you noticed him and felt that there was a connection (even though it's more or less impossible for there to have been), so it shows that he "caught your eye".

Are you single? is there potential, and is is appropriate for you to make casual, friendly contact?

pastandpresent · 16/10/2020 09:37

Wishful thought.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 16/10/2020 09:42

This thread is so 2020!

OP, yes you are daft, but what the hell, we all need to have a dream.

Cassilis · 16/10/2020 09:58

Whatever you do, don't record a Teams video call. It notifies the other person that you're recording. Blush

dottycharlotti · 16/10/2020 09:58

Hmm I'm not necessarily talking about a connection IRL, more of a connection at this moment your eyes locked that was on another plain entirely - somewhere beyond.... do you understand?

Blondiney · 16/10/2020 10:09

You're daft but kind of sweet.

WishingOnACarrot · 16/10/2020 10:12

dottycharlotti um, no, you've lost me now...

I'm feeling a bit fragile this morning. To the PP who asked was I pissed last night - yes I was 🤣 sober me would never start such a ridiculous thread 😆

😂😂😂 least you have the balls to admit that. Get a coffee and some paracetamol down you haha

HoppingPavlova · 16/10/2020 11:19

Option B, absolutely bonkers Grin

LindaEllen · 16/10/2020 11:24

It doesn't work like that.

Have you really spent all morning thinking about this?

He was probably looking at a more interesting window that he had open! And also, with the slight video delay, it wouldn't have come across as you're saying anyway.

Leimarel · 16/10/2020 11:50

It's obvious he has a massive crush on you and wants you to be his one and only true love forever.

DorisLessingsLesson · 16/10/2020 12:08

At least you only asked on here and didn't message the person with eyes to ask if they felt the connection too Grin

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 16/10/2020 12:16

He want looking at you! He was looking into the camera. He would have no idea where you were looking because 1) he was looking into the camera not at the images of his colleagues and 2) it's impossible to tell who anyone is actually staring at from the angle of their gaze because you've no idea what their own screen looks like.

He was looking into the camera and then he looked somewhere else. Nothing to do with you.

This is one of the most insane online meeting stories I've read on here.

TheRonettes · 16/10/2020 12:18

Go and nurse your hangover, OP. No, this person wasn't mesmerised by your face on Zoom. I was only in a meeting this morning thinking how much you have to use people's names in a way you wouldn't normally at an in-person meeting because it's not obvious who you're looking at.

sausagepastapot · 16/10/2020 12:19

Bonkers

babygroups · 16/10/2020 12:21

Brilliant Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/10/2020 12:22

Grin Ahh, chip butty will fix the hangover.

Was going to join in ripping the piss, but I don't want to join the 'Cancel the cheque' crowd.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/10/2020 12:23

@DorisLessingsLesson

At least you only asked on here and didn't message the person with eyes to ask if they felt the connection too Grin
We don't know for sure she didn't (she was pissed, after all...)
