So Upset. Stolen Cat.

Hermes driver and her daughter took our cat on Thursday 8th Oct - we have witnesses.

After turning up every day for months they disappeard, with the cat. A different driver turned up to collet our 'sting'' parcel on Friday. Their job was advertised on Indeed the next day.

I know the girl is a teenager, not in school, called Izzy. I have the van reg. no. It's a 59 reg silver/blue transit.

Herbie is an old man who has lived here all his life. We took him in last winter when his original owner couldn't look after him anymore.

The police are on it but can't get information about the van nor contact Hermes.

AIBU to be so upset? I can usually cope with life's dificulties but his gentle, innocent soul must be so distressed and it's hurting.

Please, if anyone knows the driver and/or daughter, let me know where to get Herbie back so he can spend his last days in the home he knows.

So Upset. Stolen Cat.

Is there a chance they may have run him over by accident?

My first thought

A ‘sting’ parcel? Is this a storyline from Inspector Morse?

What does this mean? I'm confused about this thread, but in the event that it's just me missing something ... I hope you get your cat back.

Just another bit of this that makes no sense. There was no need for a 'sting' to get the driver back since they have delivered parcels to the street every day for months. Surely OP would have expected the driver to arrive in the street anyway.

grapewine · 15/10/2020 00:18

Ah. Now I get it. Still a weird thread.

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 15/10/2020 00:27

How awful, really hope you get him back soon

TulipsandDa1s1es · 15/10/2020 00:51

You had a Hermes delivery every day for months then the delivery person stole your cat and quit their job?

or they were quitting / being sacked anyway and decided to take the cat on their last day.

OP are you sure they're not isolating? suddenly leaving a job (in the current climate especially) does seem a bit strange.

ByebyeOcado · 15/10/2020 02:51

Don’t know how you made a connection between the cat and a job advert on indeed. Delivery companies are all hiring extra staff in the run up to Christmas.

emilyfrost · 15/10/2020 06:41

I'll have Hermes for everything employment law can throw at them later

This isn’t Hermes’ fault. They have no control over their employees and when people are hired nobody has any idea what they may end up doing months/years down the line.

So Hermes haven’t done anything wrong here.

Feminist10101 · 15/10/2020 07:08

Hermes drivers are self-employed.......

Florencex · 15/10/2020 07:15

I don’t understand the story, it makes no sense.

You had a Hermes driver visit you every day for four months? Then they collected a “sting parcel” - what does that even mean? Whose job was advertised on Indeed the next day? How did you know the job was related to your daily Hermes visits and your cat?

If any of this is true, if they took the cat it was probably because they thought he was stray. No offence to Herbie but he is showing his age and I don’t think he has been stolen to order. So I would check cat shelters and local vets to see if he has been handed in.

ElementalIllusion · 15/10/2020 07:19

Hermes employ ‘local’ people to deliver in specific areas.

We have two Hermes delivery people in our town, their areas are split either side of two roads that divide the town.

I often see people posting on our town FB page asking for the number of the Hermes driver because they missed their parcel, once people work out where you are they direct you to the right driver.

Could you try something similar?

ElementalIllusion · 15/10/2020 07:23

I assumed the ‘sting’ parcel was op booked a collection of a fake parcel with Hermes hoping the cat stealing driver would come back so she could confront them, but it was a different driver and then she realised there was a job advert of a local Hermes driver so assumed they quit their job after stealing the cat.
Or maybe they had already quit their job so on the last day thought ‘screw it, I want that cat’.

I also don’t think the op had deliveries every day for a month, just that she noticed the driver stopping to fuss the cat every day for a month.

JorisBonson · 15/10/2020 07:27

@tararabumdeay have you tweeted and Facebooked, as Pap's have suggested? It's the quickest and most direct route, as well as public.

JorisBonson · 15/10/2020 07:27

Pap's - PP's!

decoraters · 15/10/2020 07:28

I assumed the ‘sting’ parcel was op booked a collection of a fake parcel with Hermes hoping the cat stealing driver would come back so she could confront them,

The driver came to their cul de sac every day for months. Why would OP need to 'sting' then to return?

decoraters · 15/10/2020 07:30

After turning up every day for months

When asked if this was the case....

Yes Hermes turned up with a parcel for people in the quiet, rural cul-de-sac of 20 houses most days.

So, why do you think that means they stopped to speak to the cat every day for a month?

decoraters · 15/10/2020 07:32

Also, just to be clear, Hermes drivers are self employed.

DonLewis · 15/10/2020 07:32

I haven't read the whole thread, but wanted to tell you this. A dog in our local area was stolen a couple of weeks ago. The owners got every dog charity involved. The appeals on FB were everywhere. Nationwide. The dog was reunited with its owners yesterday. The police took the matter incredibly seriously.

The dogs name was coco. If you search on FB and look up dog tag, or any missing dog charity page, you should find it. They may be able to put you in touch with cocos owners and they may be able to help you.

They too had a reg plate, in fact, it was how the dog was found. I really suggest you try and contact the owner. It was her tenacity that bought the dog home.

I hope you get your cat back. Flowers

Possibly desperation and to guarantee she wouldn't .iss the driver?
tararabumdeay · 15/10/2020 07:38

Thank you for your replies. Hermes are uncontactable. The police investigators have tried.
If anyone lives near a Hemes driver with an unsophisticated teenage daughter called Izzy and a silver blue Transit van please let me know so I can tell the police.

Does your town have a local fb sales and wants page? Or just a town page? Put photos and a description of what happened- including the fact that there were witnesses. Someone will know them.

They answer Tweets and Facebook messages. As many people have said.

Well, quite apart from the fact this thread makes for bizarre reading, maybe the cat is actually their cat.

After all, OP said she took the cat in last year. Maybe the OP stole the cat and rapidly had it chipped to her and the delivery driver recognised it and came back for it...

After all, the cat wasn’t actually the OP’s was it? It just happened to arrive on her doorstep one day.

All the hysteria here makes me wonder whether the OP actually took the cat and is pissed off the original owners came and took it back.

And surely the police have better things to do than to go looking for some stray cat who essentially lives where it wants and has now probably been taken back by its original owners. You know, like fighting actual crime....
