To want to replace these worktops?

I'm wondering if I can transform my kitchen by replacing the worktops and possibly the handles too. I don't want wooden worktops as they would be high maintenance. I prefer plain worktops to patterned, so thinking maybe corian, but what colour would go with cream cupboards and a wooden floor?

No help here - I think it looks really nice as it is!
It's not the kitchen I'd choose (I prefer darker units) but I think the combination of the current doors, worktop & floor work well together.

Are they marble?

If plastic then ok replace but if they're lovely marble it's a waste - I too think they're lovely

thatsnotmyuname · 14/10/2020 09:53

Thanks - current worktops are granite.

The worktops are dated but they look beautiful quality so replacing them wouldn't be a priority. I prefer darker worktops but what would be the cost of an equivalent quality replacement?

The door handles are fine.

Fluffy40 · 14/10/2020 10:10

I love those worktops. Sorry.

notso · 14/10/2020 10:23

I think I'd paint or vinyl the cupboards rather than change the worktop if it's granite.

It doesn't look great with the cream the black dots make it look mouldy to me but I think it could look much better with a darker colour.

I'd just start with changing the handles as that's easy to do, although can cost more than you think depending on your choice.

Flamingolingo · 14/10/2020 10:25

Of course you can replace them if you want to - but it will probably be £5k. I reckon you could change the look much more effectively by getting the doors resprayed which should be much cheaper!

Saz12 · 14/10/2020 10:27

Agree with others. They look like good quality worktops, IMO it would be a waste to replace them.

But that’s not what you asked... so:

To my eyes, any kind of laminate etc isn’t going to look as nice as they do, regardless of colour, and you don’t want wood. So it’ll be expensive to actually improve them. But... with cream cupboards, I’d suggest that most paler tops wouldn’t look great anyway. Cream top with (different shade and texture) cream cupboards isn’t my thing. White tops aren’t going to look good. Pale grey and cream also don’t go (to my eyes). So I’m no help!

They must be way more practical than a plain one would be (in that they’ll hide crumbs and any damage and small smears better!). I keep regretting my worktops as Id prefer something mid-toned with more pattern/ character.

MiddleClassMother · 14/10/2020 10:27

I wouldn't bother, it looks quite alright to me, the only thing i'd want is darker worktops. Wouldn't it be a waste of money to do that though? Just wait until you get a new kitchen, yours is really lovely

GreyishDays · 14/10/2020 10:30

I’d also replace the doors rather than the worktop. Depends how much you dislike the worktop though.

BigusBumus · 14/10/2020 10:41

Definitely leave the granite as it is and instead paint the cupboards!! Dar grey or Navy blue would look nice. The cup handles for the drawers are nice, but change the bar ones on the cupboards to small ball knobs.

Valkadin · 14/10/2020 11:05

Are you bored op because your kitchen looks fine.

Soozikinzii · 14/10/2020 11:12

I also particularly like those work tops ! Could you have the cupboards painted like a dark blue colour?

Peace43 · 14/10/2020 11:15

Worktop is gorgeous. I’d suggest replacing the cupboard doors instead..

NotMeNoNo · 14/10/2020 11:20

Those are beautiful natural granite, they look better quality than the rest of the kitchen. New handles would be an easy win though - maybe black?

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 14/10/2020 11:29

I agree that it’s the mix of the cupboards and worktop that doesn’t work. I think I’d paint the cupboards and change the handles too, but if you really want to change the worktop, there are companies that do it quite easily. We replaced a laminate worktop with quartz from a local kitchen company. It was about £3000.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 14/10/2020 11:29

Should have said that we have quite a lot of worktop and some of it is wider than usual.

JuliaJohnston · 14/10/2020 11:30

Paint the doors instead.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/10/2020 13:53

That's lovely granite, really lovely stone

NotMeNoNo · 14/10/2020 14:02

I'm sorry, I'm a geologist. Granite is literally a billion years old. It seems wrong to throw it out after 10 years in a kitchen! I would replace the doors with a flat white slab to look more modern and set it off TBH.

titsaleena · 14/10/2020 15:08

Beautiful bit of granite there op.

Newgirls · 14/10/2020 15:10

Worktop is nice - i think get the doors sprayed a pale grey that works with the marble and get handles changed.

Mintjulia · 14/10/2020 15:10

I love those worktops. If they are granite, they're fab.

I'd change the colour of the cupboards to something a bit richer and less neutral.

Meatshake · 14/10/2020 15:12

You're mad, they're lovely, just look crap against the cream. Paint your units or replace the doors!
