New tier system

I think that the government basically transferring the blame to individual areas saying it’s down to them to bring the rate down will end up with neighbour blaming neighbour.

MasksGlovesSoapScrubs · 12/10/2020 22:22

The government will blame anyone not to admit their own mistakes.

Pixxie7 · 12/10/2020 22:30

Of course but my concern is neighbours turning on each other.

Devlesko · 12/10/2020 22:39

You are completely right and the fear of this has stopped me from seeing my grandchildren.
I followed the rules because even after doing my own risk assessment, I knew that my ds1 neighbour would be straight on the phone reporting us.
Yet, I saw my friends seeing their grandchildren regularly. I was pleased for them, of course. But it has broken my heart, skype just wasn't the same.
It is real OP, and some of us, not all have experienced this already.

Good news though, yeah we can meet outdoors now, up to 6 of us. Guess where I am tomorrow?

puffinsseagulls · 12/10/2020 22:43

I find the new system really confusing. Also, what's to stop people just moving between areas Confused
It seems like almost every week they come out with a new cunning plan

AriesTheRam · 12/10/2020 22:46

It's bullshit.there is no way people will see family in gardens outside like we did in the spring/summer.I don't believe many people will follow the guidelines.

Pixxie7 · 12/10/2020 22:48

Devlesko@ have a loverly time.

OP posts:
Pixxie7 · 12/10/2020 22:50

puffinsseagulls@ I admit I am confused as well.

OP posts:
Pixxie7 · 12/10/2020 22:54

AriesTheRam@ totally agree but I think people will be reporting each other. Perhaps that’s what the government wants, fine everyone to help boost the economy.

OP posts:
MuthaFunka61 · 12/10/2020 22:57

I hope the weather's fine for you @Devlesko. Flowers

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 12/10/2020 23:00

I dont know OP. What's the alternative realistically? Put everywhere in lockdown even if their covid rate is really low? Put nowhere in lockdown and see cases spiral? Not change any rules as things develop and the sources of outbreaks change just incase people are too confused? Local lockdowns based on highest number of cases seems the most sensible approach. I think lots of countries are doing it this way. I think the government on the whole have handled this appallingly, it's been embarrassing. But I don't think there is an alternative at the moment.

Pixxie7 · 12/10/2020 23:06

OoohTheStatsDontLie@ it’s the transfer of blame that gets me, they are essentially saying that people in tier 3 have only themselves to blame and they have to get it down.

Tillygetsit · 12/10/2020 23:16

Can my brother come into my home? He's in my support bubble. Do I have to see jim in the garden? We are now Tier 2 where I am.
Sorry to be thick. I just can't get my head around it.

peppermintteadrinker · 12/10/2020 23:20

It's mental. I work in a uni. Local students can travel from restricted area to us because it's education. They can be in my class all morning with 20 odd other students. But come lunchtime they can't go for a maccy d's or coffee with people they've sat with all morning?!

Pixxie7 · 12/10/2020 23:29

I think the bubbles have gone in tier 2 no mixing of households I think.

OP posts:
1willgetthere · 12/10/2020 23:29

Tillygetsit if either you or your brother are single, then yes he can still come to your home. And on a separate occasion you can have another household in your garden.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 12/10/2020 23:35

People have been seeing friends and family without socially distancing though. And organising events. And going to parties. And breaking the rules. Not many people are catching it in schools or workplaces where I am, it's in the community. So the community are partly to 'blame'. The reality is though if people don't change their behaviour then it's going to get worse.

Of course the government are to blame as well for things like the eat out to help out shit show which saw massive queues everywhere where I am, and the test and trace fiasco which is completely ludicrous. But no government ever is going to come out and say it's all their fault, are they.

LastTrainEast · 12/10/2020 23:38

Pixxie7 You think everyone should lockdown at once so that people in those areas won't have hurt feelings?

As for "fine everyone to help boost the economy" that's not quite the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard, but only because I spend time reading and laughing at the 'tin foil hat' crowd with their flat earth, secret lizard government and 5G mind control beams.

funinthesun19 · 12/10/2020 23:38

I’m in a support bubble with my parents. I’m not worried about my own neighbours, but I can see my parents’ neighbours being busy bodies. This is where people need to keep their beaks out, mind their own business and stop jumping to conclusions.

1willgetthere · 12/10/2020 23:38

I saw it as passing the blame to the local leaders. So Liverpools mayor is to blame for Liverpool being in tighter lock down. And Manchester leaders to blame for Manchester's lockdown not being tight enough.

myhobbyisouting · 12/10/2020 23:39

@Devlesko isn't it from weds?

Devlesko · 12/10/2020 23:50

I'll pretend I've lost track of the days Grin

NandosPeriometer · 12/10/2020 23:51

They already encouraged grassing up your neighbour. Priti Patel said she would report a neighbour breaking the Rule of Six where as Johnson said he would talk to his neighbour before shopping them for big parties they were holding.

NandosPeriometer · 12/10/2020 23:51

Sorry wrong thread

Devlesko · 12/10/2020 23:57

Oh, and thank you all.
FWIW I would never judge anyone for breaking the rules if there really wasn't a risk.
Good luck to those entering tier 2 who have been able to socialise Thanks

SequinsandStiIettos · 12/10/2020 23:57

Tier 2 here but we have been in local lockdown since July - only the bubbles not being allowed is new and I didn't have one anyway Sad
That said, if nobody doing school drop off or pick up either wears a mask or keeps to 2m and women on the high street are huddled up tattling and primaries are cannon fodder with no masks worn and no PPE by staff then tiering will make sod all difference in the long run?
