Bleeding. Worried. Ruining my life.

Ebonyxrosex · 11/10/2020 17:29

I've been having discomfort around my ovaries for 4 years. Not a massive pain but it just feels mildly sore or irritated. Mainly my left. It's been checked three times and everything looks clear. Yet this naggy pulling sensation is often there. Definitely worsens with ovulation. I have heavy periods. I often feel sickly.

I tried the mini pill in march for six weeks. I bled and bled. Since coming of that I've had headaches every month and stronger pmt. I feel unwell midcycle and spot and feel rubbish for a couple of days.

Today (3 days after ovulation) ovary area is still feeling mildly irritated. I did a plank after my shower and a strange pain shot through that area. I stopped. Went downstairs and Started cooking tea. Felt something down there. Went upstairs and there was loads of blood . I got tissue and wiped it away.

I've been having trouble all year but the gps don't have much to offer me now as there's only hormones or transexamic acid. But this is really starting to scare me. I often don't feel quite right.

It's also getting me down because I'm getting to know someone. It's very early days and basic friendship but I am starting to think I'm going to have to let the opportunity pass because how can I have an intimate relationship with anyone. Also due to being so up and down with how well I feel I can't make plans.

My body is ruining my life.

Any experiences?

I had similar for an long time, turned out to be PCOS, the only thing that made a difference was anti androgenic contraceptives. First doctor put me on the mini pill then microgynon and both made me horribly unwell, depending on the make up of the pill some can make it worse. Yasmin works best for me.

Ebonyxrosex · 11/10/2020 17:42

Thank you for replying. I feel like my drs have had enough of me now. I'm so worried about cancer. I had a HPV test last year. I did it at home and sent it off. It was clear. But i can't shake of the worry as I've never had a full smear.

Did you loose weight? I'm loosing about 1lb a week. But it's hard to know with this year. I have been suspecting a hormone imbalance since coming off the pill too. Because I feel my body reacting to periods and fluctuations in things. The day after my period I get horrible headaches.

Oh love, I hear you. I really really struggled with this, and am probably impacted 3 weeks out of 4. I’m nauseous and bleed heavily, and am constantly told ‘that’s how it is being a woman.’ I had the coil for 3 years and I didn’t bleed but always felt awful. I now have nothing, no hormones at all, and it’s the best I’ve been. Could that be something you talk to your GP abiut?

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 11/10/2020 17:58

I found a lot of doctors very dismissive, the female ones more so surprisingly. I didn't lose weight, I gained until I realised i am pretty insulin resistant and adjusted my diet accordingly, then I was losing. I used to frequent a forum called soul cysters not sure if it still exists, those women I've now about reproductive and hormonal illnesses than the doctors I saw combined, it was like a hive mind for women's medical issues.

flatoutpanic · 11/10/2020 17:59

I’ve had the same symptoms as you for probably around 10 years. Had loads of scans, bloods etc and nothing showed up. It’s very frightening though and I never know whether to go to the GP or not, as it’s been checked out, but still concerning symptoms.

I’ve not had the weight loss or large amount of blood though. I’d keep persisting with the GP - I put the ball in their court in the end and asked what they’d like me to do if I get mid cycle bleeding in the future. I think they were a bit cornered at that point, as it’s clearly a symptom of cancer, and told me to come back each time.

Jellytottheif · 11/10/2020 18:07

Yep similar - the Mirena coil sorted me out...

Ebonyxrosex · 11/10/2020 18:12

Thank you for sharing your experiences. It started with anemia. Then I started the pill just before lockdown. So everything is so hard to untangle. I've had mild problems for six months. I've had nausea 53 days out of six months. It's mild and I am used to it now. My appetite is abit off at times. I do eat though. But I think I'm loosing weight as I get fuller quicker. Or on sickly days I will eat cereal or toast if I don't want a big meal.

It's my own fault for not having a smear I guess. In my pregnancy with my son I would bleed for days. Two weeks I bled at one point. I never found out why.

I also get alot of discharge now. It's not smelly or anything. It's normal but there's quite alot of it there constantly.

I'm in bed currently in tears. I have spent six months of my life up and down now. I'm starting to fall for someone and it's hitting me hard that I am unlikely going to be able to be with him. I can't have a sex life like this. I know it sounds shallow. But it's robbing me of a normal adult life. Not to mention nausea and fatigue and pouring through my clothes with every period. Its just making me feel like my life is over.

I guess I need to book a smear. But how long do they take when you ring up to book? Do they tend to get you in fast. I know it sounds silly but what if there's discharge there in my smear. I'd be mortified. Or is it always there in smears? Thanks.

The feeling sick/loss of appetite/losing weight could be anxiety about the whole situation (but don’t rely on that as a reason).

Have you ever had a smear? Please don’t worry about discharge, the nurse will have seen everything. I had an internal scan and mentioned that I was bleeding, the doctor laughed and said ‘most ladies are, it’s why we’re seeing you!’.

flatoutpanic · 11/10/2020 18:35

In terms of time to be seen, I’d book a GP appointment and they should do it for you.

NaughtipussMaximus · 11/10/2020 18:40

When you say the uncomfortable feeling from your ovary has been checked out, what do you mean? Have you had ultrasound scans? And yes, I’d definitely book a smear. In my experience, it takes about a month from when they send off the sample to getting a result back.

CrumbleCrumbs · 11/10/2020 18:45

Please just call your GP and book a smear - and don’t worry about discharge or anything showing in it! Doctors and nurses who perform smears do so very frequently and have seen all sorts. I’ve had smears due to bleeding, and I once had a smear while I’ve had thrush and not even realised it. Not once have I been made to feel embarrassed or a nuisance. They are not there to judge you. It is quick and easy and is all part of taking care of yourself. As far as how long it takes to get one, when I’ve called before about bleeding I’ve had one done the same day.

Ebonyxrosex · 11/10/2020 18:45

I've had an ultrasound in February yes. Also they have prodded the area.

I'll call them up tomorrow. Thanks.

How old are you? And have you had an ultrasound?

Mmn654123 · 11/10/2020 18:47

Sorry cross posted!

herewegoagain25 · 11/10/2020 18:51

Sorry to hear you are going through this, it can be soul destroying.

Not quite the same symptoms, but I got diagnosed with endometriosis after a 10 year battle for a diagnosis. Pain, bleeding, vomiting etc. You really need to find the right GP, someone who will take you seriously.

Internal scans can be a waste of time. I ended up paying for an initial private consult, who then got me a referral for a consultant - then my GP did that through the NHS. It cost a few hundred pounds.

Keep fighting, trust yourself and your body.

Ebonyxrosex · 11/10/2020 19:10

It has crossed my mind about endometriosis. The thing I fear, is if this is it now. My life is just a cycle of spotting, bleeding and side effects like nausea and fatigue then what's my life going to be like? I feel like I'm limited all the time. I get a few good days. Then it's ovulation it periods. Or three days after a period of feeling not quite right.

I fear the best years are over for me and I'm only 31. I haven't had sex for over a year. It's just rubbish.

I get pains when my cervix moves up and down in my monthly cycle.
Could it be that ?

SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 11/10/2020 20:00

Please asked to be referred to gynecology. Feeling full, pain, spotting and bleeding all need to be investigated.

VestaTilley · 11/10/2020 20:01

Why haven’t you had a full smear?! Get one ASAP.

Ask for a scan of your ovaries too.

Can you afford to get it all done privately if the NHS won’t retest you.

I’ve not heard of this as a symptom of PCOS. I thought usually women with PCOS don’t bleed much at all.

toomanyhobbies · 11/10/2020 20:06

Could it be fibroids? I had very heavy bleeding with mine.

herewegoagain25 · 11/10/2020 20:12

It might feel like this is it, but if you push you can get a diagnosis, but you do have to fight for it.

My life changed after my surgery to remove endo, I managed to get pregnant and my monthly agonising pain went away completely. It's a myth that women have to live in agony, we don't - it's isn't normal.

I also used to get pain during ovulation and then bleeding and spotting that would gradually get heavier until my period.

Wibblypiggly · 11/10/2020 20:12

How come you haven’t had a smear? Has there been a reason? Firstly, get a smear booked ASAP. Six years is a long time to wait.

When you had your ultrasound was it transvaginal?

Wibblypiggly · 11/10/2020 20:15

With bleeding and pelvic pain and a clear ultrasound in your ovaries, I’m really surprised they didn’t ask about your smears being up to date.

Having put off a smear myself in the past and having to have some treatment for abnormal cells, I’m a brow beater about people getting them done and on time. Especially if people are symptomatic.

herewegoagain25 · 11/10/2020 20:15

Is shocking you've not been offered a smear! I always find that's the go to when you go in with any inter menstrual bleeding!

You should get one, any consultant would want to rule anything out that could be picked up on a smear

Waveysnail · 11/10/2020 20:19

Constant copious amounts of clear discharge can be bv. I get it often. It also makes me feel crampy and heavy in lower abdomen and tired. Iv found using overnight pessaries the easiest treatment as antibiotics give me thrush
