So I’ve ballooned to 17 stone during and after pregnancy. Naturally around 10 stone so I feel horrible. Have been suffering with PND pretty badly and coped silently with binge eating. Decided I need to do something about it and am on day three of low carb.

I’m wondering if anyone could tell me whether judging by the size I am in the pic, I will be left with loads of loose skin on my stomach? Previously when I’ve lost weight it’s only ever been around a stone so it’s really scaring me but would just like to know what I’m in for.

Please be kind because I already know I look disgusting

Thank you x

Honestly, probably some skin yes.
I had 2 children, then lost 5 stone and I now have a saggy tummy. It has really improved over the last year, but it's still there.

Its still absolutely worth losing the weight though! My health has improved so much! You can do it!

SparklesAllOver · 09/10/2020 19:38

Be kind to yourself, you have given birth which takes a natural toll but you have a lovely baby! Weight will come off again, low carb is great so long as you are eating lots of fresh veg but allow yourself occasional treats. You look wonderful, not disgusting. Enjoy your little one Flowers

Cabinfever10 · 09/10/2020 19:38

Depends on your age below 30 probably not over 30 yes you will sorry

MarylinMonhoe · 09/10/2020 19:38

Congratulations on 5 stone that’s amazing @WellyBootsAreYouFrom. Have you got any tips on tightening up the skin as you say over the last year it has got better?

You're not disgusting. X

grool · 09/10/2020 19:40

Firstly, you do not look disgusting!

I think loose skin its just luck whether you have any or not. I've lost 7 and a half stone and don't have much, but I still have some weight to lose. When I get to my goal weight I've no doubt I'll have a lot more of it, but my body will never look "normal" as I've always been overweight.

What I can tell you is the feeling of being slim and healthy is so bloody worth it 😁 without clothes on my body resembles a melted candle but I've never been so confident.

Mistressiggi · 09/10/2020 19:40

You don't look disgusting.
I think it's a good idea to exercise while losing weight and do things to tone up - I can't guarantee it but the PT at the gym said toned muscles would pull the skin in - you can't tone loose skin when the muscle is gone. Even if you're left with skin you will look and feel a lot better - and there are surgical options if the skin is excessive.

AmandaHoldensLips · 09/10/2020 19:42

Try not to worry about it too much. Your skin will go back to normal-ish once you lose the weight. A bit of exercise will help a lot. You might have a little "extra room" in your skin after having a baby, but hey - who gives a toss? Your body is amazing.

I stopped giving a fig ages ago and I still wear a bikini. As far as I'm concerned - if people don't like it they can sodding well look the other way!

AbsentmindedWoman · 09/10/2020 19:45

I don't know about the skin, but please be more gentle with yourself. You are not disgusting. You're a human being who is having a difficult time with PND Flowers

Your weight does not make you disgusting or any less worthy of kindness and respect.

Confrontayshunme · 09/10/2020 19:47

I lost two and a half stone slowly over six to eight months and crucially put on muscle, and I have no loose skin. Burning fat by building muscle is crucial.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/10/2020 19:50

There are so many factors which affect this. What you can do is to take care of your skin as much as you can to help. Moisturise properly and regularly with a bit of massaging in, drink enough water, exercise. Not only it helps skin, but it makes you feel nice😁 Two birds, one stone

Floralnomad · 09/10/2020 19:54

If you lose weight slowly , exercise to tone and look after your skin I don’t think you will have a problem with saggy skin . I lost nearly 6 stone through illness a couple of years ago over a 6 month period and have no loose skin .

Inthemuckheap · 09/10/2020 19:58

If you're only 25 your skin should have loads of elasticity and should firm up. Good luck!

Mimosa1 · 09/10/2020 20:13

You don't look awful at all! Congratulations on your new baby. You made a person!!!
If you're just starting low carb, come and check out the low carb bootcamp thread and see if you fancy it. A new bootcamp is starting Monday andI've found them to be a sensible and helpful bunchConfused

Junkmail · 09/10/2020 20:20

I was 29 when I lost 5 stone and I have some loose skin that has very gradually improved over time. Honestly though there are so many factors like yeah your age but also how fast you lose the weight, your skin and diet quality, exercise, hydration, genetics. Worth it though. So glad I lost the weight even though I’m now a bit saggy I feel much better in myself in general.

fallfallfall · 09/10/2020 20:33

it will be down to genetics, judging by the stretch marks i think tightning up the skin will mean slow hard work and excellent nutrition.
so focus on eating well and toning exercises along with cardio.

don't skip out on vitamins and minerals.

MostTacticalNameChange · 09/10/2020 20:55

I lost 7 stone to get down to 10stone in my late 20s. Yep, shit ton of loose skin. But it is still better than being fat. You can disguise it in clothes, even beachwear and bedroom wear.

Never be able to model teenie bikinis or look like a porn star but so-fucking-what, I'm a woman who has had a baby and often enjoyed eating and drinking more than I should.

If loosing weight will make you feel happier, healthier and more confident, just do it.

Fuck the loose skin, it's just a bit of extra body.

melodypondisasuperhero · 09/10/2020 21:08

I went from just over 14 stone to just under 11 and yes I do have some loose skin, I don’t look fantastic in a bikini but fully clothed I look way better. Don’t worry about the skin.

Eviebeans · 09/10/2020 21:23

Be kind to yourself, get out and walk with the baby every day and try to do things that make you feel good about yourself, baths, massage skin with oils and keep up the good work.

Revealall · 09/10/2020 21:25

I don’t think your stomach looks any different to mine before I low carb Ed. I lost it quickly and didn’t have loose skin.
Your skin gets crinkly as it gets older and I could see it do that when I exercised. But I don’t think you necessarily will have a flat or anything..

Waveysnail · 09/10/2020 21:34

You will probably have loose skin on the lower tummy but that can happen to woman who are slim when they have babies.

wheelywheelynice · 09/10/2020 22:22

If you lose the fat slowly your body will adjust and you shouldn't be left with a lot of spare skin.
Fast, dramatic fat loss is more likely to leave you with excess.

JaceLancs · 09/10/2020 22:29

Depends on your age and how fast you lose the weight
I lost 8 stone in my mid 30s over 2 years with no loose skin
Put some weight back on in the intervening years I’m now 56, lost 5 stone with SW and could do with a tummy tuck but it’s not awful - at my lightest 18 months ago I could wear a medium bottom bikini

AmIACowBag · 09/10/2020 22:46
