Wellies for delicate feet - anywhere on High street?

Dancingwithdaftness · 09/10/2020 19:05

So, I'm probably being unreasonable as most people I know can buy any old footwear and blightly gallivant without concern for their feet.
My feet appear to be unusual. I must emphasise that they are perfectly normal looking feet to the innocent eye.
However. I constantly suffer from blisters on the back of the heels and on each side of the balls of my feet if you get me.
I've small feet technically, size 3.5/4 but the bones in my feet seem wide at the base of toes, so shoes always seem to squash my feet/toes terribly.

I'm looking for some recommendations of somewhere that I could walk into and actually try the wellies on as I will know within 2 paces whether something is going to hurt my feet.

My plan for the winter is to do a lot of soggy forest trails, but I can't bear footwear giving me blisters. I suppose I could bring plasters with me, but ideally I'd like to try them on before buying. Price isn't really an issue as I will be cancelling my gym membership most likely.

I genuinely have never seen a proper wellie shop in my area of London.

Please help out a girl with two awkward feet?

Sorry should of said there from mountain warehouse

Hawse · 09/10/2020 20:27

@Floralnomad

I’d recommend finding your local equestrian wear place and going there . I walk a lot all year and wear either Woof Wear short yard boots or Dublin River boots and can highly recommend both . My daughter has very small feet and she also gets on fine with the Woof Wear Boots
Definitely equestrian boots. I have these and similar sized feet and thet are terrific.

I second agile parcours. PP described them as bring like slippers which is also the word I use to describe them. A gun shop or agricultural store (think I bought mine in Mole Valley) would be your best bet if you want to try them on but can appreciate there isn't one on every street corner in London.

DaffodilsAndDandelions · 09/10/2020 20:33

I know you said you live in a flat but do you have any outside space at all? One if these might be a good idea for getting the erst mud off

Well, London is a pretty big place, but I'd bet a Millets, Blacks, Tresspass, Mountain Warehouse or Sports Direct isnt too far from you.

LakieLady · 09/10/2020 20:54

If you want to try Aigle Parcours, Farlows in Pall Mall stock them.

Dancingwithdaftness · 10/10/2020 06:57

Don't know if I've heel spurs - what are they?

Thanks very much for all the recommendations. I guess I'll have to haul ass across London. I do recall an outdoors shop in Fulham which might have stocked those brands, but I'm in South East London.

Agile Parcours sounds like they might be a good bet. Slippers are indeed what I need for my stupid ass feet. I think manufacturers seem to have a notion that if you've short feet that they'll also be narrow, but alas mine are not. Thanks for all the names and links. I'm going to write down all the brand names and bring a list with me when I find the nearest outdoorsy shop/equestrian. Pall Mall might actually be the most accessible. If I can just try them on, then I can check out the prices online if they're comfy.

It's funny but you think of London as having everything. I may have been blind to passing any fishing tackle/equestrian/outdoor supplies shop as I haven't been looking for one iyswim but will do my best now.

Yes there is a court yard at the rear of this block, so I could get a contraption such as the weed sprayer I suppose, but it would just end up cluttering up my hallway. Us city folk don't have much space for muddy boots or wellies and other outdoor accoutrements lol.

I buy ones from the boys departments. They are wider than girls or women ones

Good hack which I will bear in mind. I need to find a shop assistant with significant patience, as I'll probably have to try on loads and annoy them no end haha.

I bought Aigle Juliette which look more like actual shoes but they are so comfortable. I'm rather fussy because I injured my ankle and also have feet prone to blistering. Love them!

Lightningrain · 10/10/2020 07:17

Another vote for Aigle Parcour ISO. They’re hunting boots so much more supportive around the ankle that normal wellies and generally very comfortable. Really warm as well due to the neoprene.

DP loves his Le Chameau wellies which are similar but the calf fit is too narrow for me

wafflyversatile · 10/10/2020 07:24

I dont have a boot recommendation but maybe try a liner sock or double layer sock. They are meant to help prevent blisters.

Just an example.

queenMab99 · 10/10/2020 07:38

I too have problem feet but due to Rheumatoid arthritis not blisters, I got some Aigle wellies from Dobbies (gardening shop) for really wet weather, but Karrimor walking boots are not very expensive and you can get them cheaply on offer from places like Go Outdoors and Sports Direct, I have found them really good over the years, I have to replace mine often so don't want to pay a fortune.

gavisconismyfriend · 10/10/2020 07:46

Have you seen a podiatrist? It may not be your feet so much as the way you walk that causes the blisters. A specialist podiatrist would be able to look at this and might recommend an insole or something that could alleviate the problems you have.

daisypond · 10/10/2020 07:53

Decathlon sell walking boots too - several branches in London.

LarryUnderwood · 10/10/2020 07:56

Southampton st just off the Strand has 3 or 4 outdoor sports shops all practically next to each other - mountain warehouse, Ellis Brigham, North face etc. I got my walking boots at the mountain warehouse, spent a good 1-2 hours trying on everything and that is absolutely normal and what they expect you to do.

toffeekiwi · 10/10/2020 07:56

Another votes for men's walking boots. I have a super comfy karrimor pair.

speakout · 10/10/2020 07:58

I agree with the others- drop te wellie idea.

Also make sure you get some good woolen socks, will help prevent blisters.

Naticus · 10/10/2020 07:59

I'm currently breaking in a pair of boots and can recommend blister plasters, I use them to prevent them rather than a treatment

Check out Muck boots. I have hypermobility in my feet which can be painful in normal wellies but the muck boots Ive got have memory foam insides and neoprene outsides, they look really smart and not too welly-like, and they are soooo warm and toasty.

I've also got a fantastic £40 pair of Peter storm walking boots from millets. Practically identical to the £100+ Oakley ones I wore to death a few years back!

No, I haven't seen a podiatrist. I have tried all sorts of different insoles but the result is that my feet are even more squashed into the shoes. I did get gait analysis done before, just in a sports shop, and I have pronation where I need instep support (asics are good for this but the problem is the width of the shoe at the ball of the feet area and obviously not being able to wear runners in the mud). Not sure why my heels always blister.

Farlows are very good at finding the right boots. Very helpful staff willing for you to try on every item of footwear in the shop.

randomsabreuse · 10/10/2020 08:57

Decathlon, certainly used to be one Canada Water way. Am out of date on London though.

If you can bear online, Hoggs or Grubs do neoprene wellies with vibram soles which are a revelation for comfort and grip.
