To ask you to tell me about your pets?

My two childhood pets have died this year in the space of about 3 months.

I have such lovely memories of them and I feel so sad about it, although feel even worse for my lovely Dad who had to deal with it. He was very close to our dog, they had such a bond. It was absolutely devastating for him when she died during the initial lockdown at home. We stayed up with her all night and stroked her and told her how loved she was as she went.

Now his (mine as a child!) cat has just had to be put to sleep too. He wasn't allowed to be with him in the vets when it happened due to the restrictions so I know he's feeling a bit guilty and upset about that.

I have a dog of my own now and I love him to pieces, my little sidekick. It's very unfair that they go before us.

Tell me about your pets and what you love and appreciate about them? A time they've made you laugh or smile? I'd like to just remember for a little bit all the positive things these two little lives brought to my childhood.

My 6 month old kitten is called Ron. He's the light of our lives. I'm currently 5 months pregnant and he's taken to sitting on my lap with one protective paw on my bump. I never thought I would love a pet as much as I love him but he's a joy. He's black and white, pink nose and multi coloured black and pink paws.

Sorry you lost your pets. They really do give such unconditional love don't they?

This is Ding. He's a massive dick.

He pretended to be blind over summer, even tricked the vet. I had to buy him extra special smelly food, heat it up so he could smell it, carry it to where he was lying.

He wasn't blind. He forgot himself after a fortnight and watched some birds one day. The vet was as unimpressed as I was

This is my girl, Mimi Moo. I absolutely adore her. Rescued 6 months ago and like you said she is my side kick. It’s hard to go to work and leave her, even though she spends her days with my housemate. She is a snuggle butt, mud monster and very greedy! She is perfect. I’ve heard this before “everyone thinks they have the worlds best dog, and no one is wrong”.

I thought after losing my lovely little Jack Russel Daisy, we would never get another dog. Couldn't bear the thought of it....
Then saw these sisters from a Bulgarian rescue. I wanted the white one (Star) and DH wanted the brown one (Holly), we couldn't agree so decided to get them both 18 months ago.... it's like they've always been with us.
They are so very different but similar at the same time.

He is grumpy in the mornings but loves to come out in the evening and sit on my shoulder while I watch TV or cook dinner

Really he just sits and looks pretty until feeding time when he turns savage 😂

This is milly the millipede - she hides away for days at a time then comes out for a crawl about on my hand, she’s cute 😀

The are my giant African land snails who are slimy weirdos that like it when you pet their face

This is Gelert our German Shepherd.

He is loyal, loves to play ball, and follows the toddler around constantly. We all love him to bits. He was a rescue but came to us as a 3 month old puppy as the original owners couldn’t cope with him

This is Al, he is a very old very tolerant bearded dragon. Even people who don’t like reptiles like Al and his silly expressions

Op I’m so sorry for your loss. Pets are the best. We have a golden lab and she’s amazing. She’s so loving and funny. She’s like my second child. I hope you’re ok and you’ve got lots of support xx

I totally agree with you about how unfair it is that our beloved pets have such comparatively short life spans to us. My two dogs are just amazing, I love them SO much and so does DH. They are loveable, silly, naughty, hilarious bundles of utter gorgeousness and I don't know what I will do when they are no longer around.

(I wish MN was full of positive stuff like this instead of the judgemental and nasty threads I am seeing so much of lately)

This is Rocky and hes the funniest,grumpiest dog ive ever had.Hes got small dog syndrome big time and I adore him.

I have a spaniel too! Here she is looking wild and dishevelled- she’s been to groomers since and is now trimmed and lovely. She’s the most mental high energy dog, totally batshit. A fellow spaniel owner described life with a working cocker as like having a toddler with ADHD. Everyone thinks she’s a puppy as she’s small and crazy but she’s actually 5 and old enough to know better.

This is my poppy. She is about 4 we think. We've had her 2 years she was adopted from a rescue centre. She is a lurcher, greyhound collie cross and mainly got the best of both breeds. Lazy couch potato but really quite clever 😁. She is completely goofy. She herds us together on walks and is not averse to grabbing a sleeve or nipping an arse cheek to keep you walking on the right direction. I love her to bits

This is my Mimi she was abandoned in a box on the side of a road along with her sister when they were approximately 4 weeks old. After they were rescued neither of them were expected to make it through the night but they did! She is the most loving gentle cat I have ever known (I've had a lot of cats in my lifetime!) she's just happy to be alive. She's 4 now and had never caught anything (other than the occasional butterfly!) I don't know what I'd do without her.

Tiny and Raphael. I have no idea which is which. The most pointless and yet loveliest pets. They always look happy, which makes me happy. So easy to look after. And slightly stupid

This is Wallace the Fox Terrier, looking very pleased with himself for getting a muzzle full of dirt! He's become quite popular on Twitter, and I love him more than life itself.
