Category, as Ru Paul would say, is alcoholic drinks aimed at women.

I bought a bottle of Malibu Strawberry Spritz at Morrison’s last week. I like Malibu (don’t judge me) and strawberries and fizzy things.

I opened it last night. Christ, it was awful. Tasted like a weird blend of kids’ medicine and saturated sugar syrup. Not sure how you can make something like this taste un-fruity. And it was virulent pink.

Down the sink it went, even the plughole seemed to be resisting it by vomiting up the pink foam.

I can’t imagine anything worse but maybe you know differently.

YABU = yes, there are worse alcoholic drinks aimed at the ladies and I’m going to give you details.

YANBU = no, nothing sounds worse than Malibu Strawberry Spritz.

I tried Riga Balsam repeatedly, while in Latvia, and at no point did it improve.

MoonJelly · 08/10/2020 09:30

Bailey's Irish cream and Advocaat. They both make me gag.

Branches1 · 08/10/2020 09:30

Have you tried Unicum? It is the worst drink in the entire world. It's a Hungarian liqueur

Black Tower white wine and coke light are also awful

oakleaffy · 08/10/2020 09:32

Tunnel showing {empty} track where Malibu Woman was sitting with her bottle!

DizzyPigeon · 08/10/2020 09:32

Why would anyone get past the name Unicum and take the risk to drink it...

Is it just me?

DareDevil223 · 08/10/2020 09:33

@ErrolTheDragon

I once tried some Jam Doughnut beer at a beer festival. Yes, I know, my own fault, but I didn't really want to drink any more so I indulged my morbid curiosity.

I think the worst water I've sampled was at a spa, probably the pump room in Bath - again no surprise there, sulphurous warm water. I don't doubt its curative properties, it'd motivate you to get over what ailed you.

I was just going to say that. Bath Spa water is vile. I tried some spa water at the Pump Rooms in Cheltenham, similarly sulphurous and disgusting.

Pressed too soon...still think I'm traumatised from it.

I give you Kumis:. www.rferl.org/a/drink-milk-kymyz-nature-kyrgyz/25056527.html

Horse milk fermented in a goatskin bag. My husband liked it but omg omg omg.

fairydustandpixies · 08/10/2020 09:33

Not a drink but I used to love those strawberry jam and coconut marshmallow biscuits back in the 70s!

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 08/10/2020 09:34

Unicum? Literally the worst name ever. Dizzy pigeon it is definitely not just you. 🤮

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 08/10/2020 09:34

My Nan used to drink baileys and lemonade. That was pretty rank, milky drinks shouldn't be fizzy.

Speaking of which, I also tried an actual fizzy milkshake once - think it might have been Japanese? That was awful.

Redtartanshoes · 08/10/2020 09:35

Disclaimer I haven’t actually tasted either of these but I imagine it’s what they serve in hell.

An "aviation" cocktail - gin, maraschino liqueur, crème de violette, and lemon juice. I don't know what I was thinking. It looked pretty but it was like drinking dilute Zoflora.

AyDeeAitchDee · 08/10/2020 09:35

Also came here expecting Beverly comments.

I love Malibu so no judgement from me!

Still would be tempted to try. I like kids medicine though Grin

What, @Hardbackwriter , is Unicum

I don’t want to Google

Those look marketed at young teenage girls... Depressing. I imagine that only kids would like their taste. It would be very easy to take too much.
ElizabethMainwaring · 08/10/2020 09:38

Taboo- orange and disgusting
Mirage - blue and disgusting
Mad Dog 20/20 - came in various lurid hues and flavours, all of them revolting.

I was a student in the early 90's.
The advent of alcopops was a game changer.

Needanewnamenow · 08/10/2020 09:39

i once had a michelada which was clamato juice with a beer top. that's clams, tomato juice and a sort of dark lager mexican beer

seayork2020 · 08/10/2020 09:40

But they wouldn't aim it at women if women didn't buy it there would be no point, when I go to nights out all I see is woman drinking weird colourful drinks

I thought lager and tomato juice was weird sounding but turned out nice not tried one for years but I love pints

dontcallmelen · 08/10/2020 09:41

Just discovered you can get them from Ocado, the Lyons ones chocolate base with jam/mallow topped with coconut instantly transported back in time.
DriveThroughSwabber · 08/10/2020 09:42

ErrolTheDragon My DM and I went on a short break to Bath, and duly tried the water. DM's verdict: "It tastes like bath water". Erm, yep Grin

Gatekeeper · 08/10/2020 09:42

I like the sound of these bitter herbally drinks. I would much prefer that to sweet, sickly ones

ElizabethMainwaring · 08/10/2020 09:42

Lager and tomato juice?!Shock

Zaphodsotherhead · 08/10/2020 09:42

Strawberry Baileys. I love cream and strawberries and all that, but this tasted like synthetic strawberry flavouring that had been left to go off and then mixed with a carton of fake cream - like that Elmlea stuff,

One of the reasons I've cheerfully given up drinking now.
