Dm has come down with what we are hoping is a cough and cold virus. We are awaiting tests results for her. Has anyone had a cough and it not been the virus?

Yes, I got tested around five days ago because I've been coughing so badly and it came back two days ago as negative

seayork2020 · 07/10/2020 11:21

I dont think coughs have got the memo to only affect people who have tne virus, seriously though yes you can get a cough without the virus

LoopyLoux · 07/10/2020 11:23

Currently awaiting my test to come through the door, I've had a sore throat followed by a really painful cough that's wiped me right out. Feeling really crappy! Hopefully not the rona.

I’ve had no cough no temperature. I Have a positive result. Got tested due to aches and pains. I’ve since lost sense of taste/smell. Still NO COUGH

@GreyishDays there are newer figures than the ones I was referring to here...(but given the clusterfuck that the Government are making of the whole testing process who knows how accurate they are!?)...

To get an idea of the percentage of positive tests coming back from people with symptoms being tested in the community then the pillar two numbers are most useful as pillar one is in hospital settings. Looking at the week in the link pillar two results were running at around 4% of the total, which means that presuming most people will be getting tests because they have a new persistent cough, temperature or loss of taste and smell (which seems to be the only COVID-19 exclusive symptom) then the large majority of people being tested with a cough are negative. Hope your DM is ok OP?

All the medical advice I have read states that there are 3 main symptoms:

Loss of taste and smell
Temperature
Cough

Everyone gets coughs and sniffles at this time of year, please don’t waste valuable resources getting a test just because you have a cough.

It’s been shown on here that the vast majority on this thread, who had a cough - the test result came back negative.

A friend (who is a social worker and therefore in contact with a lot of people at close quarters) had full-blown Covid symptoms and went for a test, which was negative.

We named it “Novid”.

CruzControl · 07/10/2020 20:27

The vast majority of people test negative. Over 99% test negative I think.

That's fine but we're told to get a test with a continuous cough. Dd had one last night. Should I have ignored it and sent her into school?

The advice is that if you have ONE of those 3 symptoms you should have a test. You don't need to have all of them.

Your post is misleading.

Soapysoap · 07/10/2020 20:34

DD and I have a terrible cough and our tests were negative. No other symptoms, just a horrid constant cough.

KenAdams · 07/10/2020 20:35

Yes, me. I still have the cough.

gandalf456 · 07/10/2020 20:37

CeeceeBloomingdale · 07/10/2020 20:38
