How much did you pay for a new boiler in a traditional sized 1930s semi?

Am I being unreasonable to ask? Grin

Recently we had an external Grant oil fired boiler fitted, altogether around £5k but it's bliss - very efficient and no annoying noises inside (plus the space it frees up).

Otterhound · 06/10/2020 20:20

Having looked on line base price seems to be around £1200 for the boiler. Then Add in a few hundred for a flu kit and magnetic filter - £1500 and then fitting cost on top.
If its not too complicated anything above £2500 would be expensive imho

adriennewillfly · 06/10/2020 20:28

British gas quoted us £4500 for replacing the boiler. 1930s terrace in London, with a conservatory under the bedroom where the boiler is located.

CeibaTree · 06/10/2020 20:40

We paid £3k last year including installation (British Gas). It's a Vaillant ecoFIT in a 3 bed semi.

Ontheboardwalk · 06/10/2020 20:44

£2k for Worcester boiler few years ago.

No issues with the boiler itself but it’s pin timer system has broke a couple of times. Seems to be a known issue with them.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 06/10/2020 20:44

3k for whole new heating system inc. boiler and radiators, 3 bed terrace.

ancientgran · 06/10/2020 20:46

Last month I paid £2,100 for a Worcester Bosch combi boiler and fitting.

Stringervest · 06/10/2020 20:47

£2k in March 2018 for a Worcester Bosch with a ten year parts and labour warranty. Manchester, 4 bed detached.

ancientgran · 06/10/2020 20:49

If you put your details in with boxt it will give you a guaranteed price. I found them very good.

longtompot · 06/10/2020 20:50

Our boiler has just failed. It's been giving a warning every winter for the past couple of years (f13 which is the pcb and usually switching it off and on again seems to reset it and it's ok. Not this year.) It's is 15 years old though, and Glowworm brand. We've just bought a replacement of a higher spec for £850 ish which my uncle will fit for us, as well as flushing the rads. We were quoted £2,600 to have a like for like fitted with a system flush.

5k 3 bed house in se London last year, with a 7 year warranty

TheHighestSardine · 06/10/2020 20:59

£2900 for a Baxi condenser plus an extra radiator and some pipe rerouting (moved the boiler to a different room), house about the same size as yours.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/10/2020 21:01

Nov 2018 - a Worcester , just under £2.5 I think.

bridgetreilly · 06/10/2020 21:21

£2000 last year, but it’s electric because there’s no gas here. Old one lasted 11 years.

JaceLancs · 06/10/2020 21:51

I also got a grant
Paid £1000 2 weeks ago for Worcester Bosch combi fitted - one new radiator, new thermostat, pump, timer some new pipes and removal of old boiler and hot water tank

copperoliver · 06/10/2020 22:28

Between 3 and 4 k x

Caplin · 06/10/2020 22:35

If you do it while it is still going you might get a grant.

Sadly ours died a couple of years ago a week before Christmas, just as everyone went off on holiday. Managed to find an awesome company who agreed to fit on Boxing Day. £5k for a Worcester. Needed one that could push hot water up two floors, 5 bed house, two showers. Also limited by our concrete floor and the small pipes that were fitted into the concrete.

But it is great! Cheaper to run than our old one.

Caplin · 06/10/2020 22:37

Also don’t go to British Gas (I worked for them at the time). They only stock certain boilers, so quoted me £12k!!! Even the guy suggested this other company (ex BG engineers who set up their own company that year, so VAT free).

samosamimosa · 06/10/2020 22:38

£2500 for a Bosch combi 3 years ago

Damnloginpopup · 06/10/2020 23:34

Older boiler in my rental 2 bed mid terrace has gone this week, pcb. I'm having a baxi with 10yr warranty fitted on Friday, recommended size and model by a plumber I've known for years - £1685 providing there is no additional pipework needed (subject to a pressure test, apparently its around the distance limit for the diameter of pipe currently fitted). I figure my tenants deserve something good and long term it is probably a better investment on my side.

LakieLady · 07/10/2020 00:14

Our plumber quoted £1,800 + vat to replace our current Weissmann combi with a new Weissmann, but I just got a quote from Boxt and we can have a Worcester Bosch with a 10-year guarantee for £1,925.

Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

ivykaty44 · 07/10/2020 17:53

thanks for everyone adding their costs etc

I have now gone for a quote for £2k for a Worcester with a 20 year guarantee, all fitted, new flue flushed through and limescale reducer

3 bed terrace, Baxi 600 30kW combi, £1800 all in.

Elsa8 · 07/10/2020 18:32

£3k in a similar age and size house, but that includes removing an old water tank and rerouting some pipes.
