I'm around 2-3 stone over weight, if I wear jeans and a top I feel really uncomfortable like I can't move right, I much prefer track suit bottoms and a t shirt, my clothes aren't to small they are the right size I just feel so uncomfortable! Could this be the extra weight I have or just me ?

Your clothes are the wrong size or cut for you if you find them uncomfortable.

Im a size 18 and comfortable in jeans. I don't own jogging trousers but have some "lounge wear" leggings and tops for when I do sleep-ins at work or for if I'm actually ill... I'm very comfortable relaxing in jeans and they don't have elasticated waists, they're just the right size!

oakleaffy · 05/10/2020 14:39

Re jeans, an old copy of Cosmopolitan or similar said that if one wanted to be an Underwear model, never wear jeans to photoshoots as the jeans cause seam imprints on the hips that take time to disperse .

Even as a really skinny person, I found non stretch jeans intolerable to do a lot of bending down in..They cut behind the knee.

They are probably the least comfy thing to wear, and in a damp climate cold against the skin too.

Aisforharlot · 05/10/2020 14:54

I've found this fat and thin. My body doesn't sit well with shirts in particular.

BashfulClam · 05/10/2020 14:55

@EstuaryBird I love them now. So comfy.

The problem for me is they don't make jeans in a cut for a tweedledum shape, which is my overweight shape, and if they did they would fall down anyway without braces. When I was two sizes smaller I found jeans really comfortable.
RaisinGhost · 06/10/2020 04:59

I think most people find jeans and similar clothes uncomfortable, which is why "lounge wear" and "ath-leisure wear" are things now.

garlictwist · 06/10/2020 05:08

I am not overweight but I hate wearing jeans. They are just so clingy. I hate the sensation of lots of clothes for some weird reason. I live in tracksuit bottoms at home and if I go out wear a loose dress or a skirt with tights that are two sizes too big so they don't cling.

garlictwist · 06/10/2020 05:09

Oh and I never wear a bra unless exercising. Awful things !

littlepeas · 06/10/2020 05:25

I am not overweight but still don't like wearing anything restrictive. Someone I once did a course with said that bras can make people feel anxious, as it is a tight band around the ribs and can give a sense of being restricted in your breathing. This was a lightbulb moment for me. I avoid wearing anything that leaves a mark on my body - bras, jeans, socks and shoes are the main culprits. Obviously I haver to wear shoes, but only barefoot shoes 99.9% of the time I am not actually barefoot.

LaBellina · 06/10/2020 05:30

When I was overweight the fat mainly was located around my stomach and my hips and I felt the same. Loved jeggings with a loose fitting top and a nice blazer back then.

littlepeas · 06/10/2020 05:31

I should have said I avoid anything that restrictive my movement or leaves a mark on my body.

TitsOutForHarambe · 06/10/2020 05:34

Your jeans are too small.

If you're going to buy a new pair I would recommend high waisted and stretchy! Very flattering on a fuller figure.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 06/10/2020 06:06

Your clothing shouldn't lwave a mark on your body littlepeas - that includes bras! I'm a 36F so I can't go to work without a braand don't want to go out generally without one - my bras don't leave marks, neither do my jeans!

I think a lot of people are wearing clothing which doesn't actually fit! Shock

FippertyGibbett · 06/10/2020 06:35

I’ve ditched jeans and gone onto those thick leggings (treggings ? jeggings ?) from Next and Joni jeans from Top Shop. Much more comfortable.
My teenage girls both tend to take off their jeans at home and throw on PJ bottoms, and they’re not overweight.

FippertyGibbett · 06/10/2020 06:37

What do people do about socks ? I’m finding I’ve got rings around my ankles at night.
I wear black socks every day, either for work or under my leggings on days off.

Goatinthegarden · 06/10/2020 06:51

It definitely sounds like you need to change the size/fit of your jeans. They are obvs less comfortable than something soft like tracksuit bottoms, but they shouldn’t be that un-comfy.

flippertygibbett my MIL once gifted me some socks that were her favourite brand. They were really soft and had no toe-seams and really loose elastic, aimed at people who find socks uncomfortable. Having never noticed a problem with socks, I found them a bit bizarre, but maybe they would help you? I’m afraid I have no idea what brand they were but they came from John Lewis. I usually wear tiny foot socks rather than full size socks - that might help too?

HamishDent · 06/10/2020 08:51

Yes, I experienced the same before I lost weight. My problem was that I carried the weight around my stomach, but the rest of me was fairly slim. That meant jeans were too tight around my waist when then fitted the rest of me ok.

Valkadin · 06/10/2020 09:29

I’m not overweight but of course tracksuit bottoms are the most comfy always as they have give as elasticated. For people who hate socks I wear mine inside out so the seams don’t bother me.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/10/2020 09:46

FlippertyGibbett, try 'diabetic socks' in your search. My husband has dainty little ankles but still gets sock 'rings'.

FippertyGibbett · 07/10/2020 06:34

Thanks.

MostDisputesDieAndNoOneShoots · 07/10/2020 06:45

I’ve been lots of different weights over the years but even when I was a size 8 I never found jeans comfortable. It’s a mystery to me as to why they’re the default casual clothing- they’re bloody uncomfortable!

Emeraldshamrock · 07/10/2020 07:36

It visceral fat pushing on the inside when pushing your stomach in wearing denim or tight material.
