So my ex partner phoned to say that his brother and sister in law have tested positive for corona virus. 2 out of 3 of my children have been in contact and in there house playing as they live next door to ExP. I am booking a drive thru test for tomorrow morning for the 2 kids but do me and my child who hasn't been in contact need 1 aswell because my other 2 have? I'm confused to how it all works as these are the 1st people we know that have tested positive.

You don't book a test without symptoms. Its a complete waste of a test. You isolate them for 14 days and book a test IF they get symptoms. Why do you think you need to book one?

boredinthouse · 04/10/2020 22:46

Yeah they don't need a test unless they show symptoms. They do need to isolate though

Crunchymum · 04/10/2020 22:46

Who has symptoms?

They are the only ones who need tests.

Although I think the rule is the 2 kids who had close contact need to self isolate and you have had close contact with them so you and your other DC need to self isolate... unless any of you develop symptoms. Then you test.

Jade308 · 04/10/2020 22:47

No symptoms. No test. It cannot be any clearer. They need to isolate for 14 days, test if symptoms appear.

Crunchymum · 04/10/2020 22:48

Its a fucking shit system and is going to take a huge % of the workforce and kids at school out for huge periods of time.

Hercwasonaroll · 04/10/2020 22:48

The 2 who were in contact need to isolate.

No test unless they have symptoms.

Merryoldgoat · 04/10/2020 22:49

If they don’t have symptoms no test is necessary.

14 days isolation for the children in direct contact.

No one else needs to isolate.

Dug14 · 04/10/2020 22:49

We’re in this position. You don’t test any of them unless they show symptoms. You do have to get them to isolate - you don’t need to. (But we have chosen to isolate as a home anyway)

Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 22:51

Were they in contact in the 48 hours before the brother developed symptoms?

dementedpixie · 04/10/2020 22:52

None of you need tests unless you get symptoms. The kids with contact need to isolate.

Northernsoullover · 04/10/2020 22:54

This is what is causing testing problems. People who book a test just because they have had contact with someone who is positive.

CupiddStunt · 04/10/2020 22:57

Right ok I understand, can anyone give me any advice because I'm a single parent on a low income and we really struggle as it is, I rely on my wage but obviously if my kids need to isolate I cant get a babysitter for them, nightmare 😬

Can I just ask a question please without getting my head bitten off? Grin

My friend's DH gets a lift to work with someone who has tested positive for Covid today. His supervisor has told him he needs to isolate for 14 days but he's also told him my friend and their daughter needs to isolate too.

That's not correct is it? Or is it? She's Googled and when I last spoke to her this afternoon, she was still confused and trying to get clarification.

WorraLiberty · 04/10/2020 23:00

Sorry to hijack your thread with my question OP

Hope all goes well for you and your family Thanks

dementedpixie · 04/10/2020 23:01

No its not correct. The person with contact isolates but the others don't need to unless he gets symptoms

CupiddStunt · 04/10/2020 23:03

demandedpixie, it's fine it's just all so confusing, they technically shouldn't have been in there house anyway so I'm pretty pissed off about this aswell.

Did they actually have close contact with the adults in the 48 hours prior to the adults developing symptoms. Kids on a play date may not have even been in the sane room for more than a couple if minutes. Depending on their age of course.

Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 23:05

Is it in a lockdown area?

Missanneshirley · 04/10/2020 23:05

I don't know if this is different because we are in Scotland, but up until last week the emails coming out from schools were saying (eg) your dd1 has been in direct contact blah blah, only dd1 needs to isolate.
Now they say dd1 AND the rest of the family!

dementedpixie · 04/10/2020 23:06

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/nhs-test-and-trace-if-youve-been-in-contact-with-a-person-who-has-coronavirus/

This page explains it. Has test and trace contacted them because technically its them that gives self isolation info not the employer/anyone else

ChangingStates · 04/10/2020 23:06

Maybe your ex-partner, who is also isolating presumably, should have the 2 kids stay with him so you can continue to work....

dementedpixie · 04/10/2020 23:07

@Missanneshirley our info changed back and now says only the contact and not the rest of the family any more. I'm north lanarkshire

WorraLiberty · 04/10/2020 23:08

@dementedpixie

No its not correct. The person with contact isolates but the others don't need to unless he gets symptoms
Thank you. I was 99% sure that was the case but it kind of threw everyone when the person who was supposed to be in the know...clearly wasn't.

Changingstates has the best solution.
