So my ex partner phoned to say that his brother and sister in law have tested positive for corona virus. 2 out of 3 of my children have been in contact and in there house playing as they live next door to ExP. I am booking a drive thru test for tomorrow morning for the 2 kids but do me and my child who hasn't been in contact need 1 aswell because my other 2 have? I'm confused to how it all works as these are the 1st people we know that have tested positive.

We arent meant to visit another household I dont think but then that might not apply to kids actually as they were playing with there cousins, ExP has booked a test for tomorrow and said I should aswell, we dont really get on great so even if I told him he didnt need 1 he still will go so that he doesnt need to isolate and if hes negative he wont watch the kids if I isolate them and dont test them, hes difficult, theres no talking to him about stuff like this, the reason he is my ex actually.

Yeah, just because he gets a negative test wouldn't mean he didn't have it as the incubation period is up to 14 days. Sounds like he wouldn't listen to you though

No test without symptoms. Your ex looks after the children whilst they all isolate especially since they weren’t meant to be at another household but he decided it was worth the risk. His decision his consequences

Even if your ex gets a negative, it still means he has to isolate for 14 days.

Anybody visiting the home of the positive people also need to isolate for 14 days.

Only book a test if a person has symptoms.

@WorraLiberty

Can I just ask a question please without getting my head bitten off? Grin

My friend's DH gets a lift to work with someone who has tested positive for Covid today. His supervisor has told him he needs to isolate for 14 days but he's also told him my friend and their daughter needs to isolate too.

That's not correct is it? Or is it? She's Googled and when I last spoke to her this afternoon, she was still confused and trying to get clarification.

As I understand it is just the close contact of the positive person who has to SI (so the passenger) but if he shows symptoms then all his close contacts (IE his daughter and wife) have to SI.

Quite frankly its utter bullshit and soon we're all going to be in self isolation!!!

Can I just dispel the myth that you only need to isolate if told to? The contact tracing service is not psychic and can only tell people to isolate if they have been told who they are by the positive case. I'm guessing that people are not always honest especially if they shouldn't have been mixing in the first place! If you come into contact with someone who you know to be positive then just isolate!

I'm just telling you what the nhs site says!
