6 months of shite weather

No toddler groups............can't go to the park because the ground is always soaking wet/play equipment waterlogged. Can't afford softplay every week. One of my sons is nearly 2 and I have no idea what I'm going to do with him until the sun shows it's face again next year.

I'm feeling low about the onset of autumn/winter. Trying to entertain a very active little boy at home for 6 months of cold/dark and horrible autumn rain.

Anyone else in the same boat? Ideas?

I realize with hindsight how lucky I was to be able to take my first son to a local toddler group on a Tues morning. It only cost £1 entry, & he loved playing with different toys. Those groups were great, such a shame Covid has finished them off (near me anyway)

Can't stand that no bad weather thing. Its nonsense.

It’s boring isn’t it? My toddler gets really wound up if we are in the house all morning so we have to go out.

I put her in a splash suit and take her to the park but like me she doesn’t really seem to enjoy It. She likes jumping in puddles but that’s it...there’s nothing fun about going on wet play equipment to my little one she always ends up wanting to go home.

We watch films and she goes on my phone sometimes to play games...also the usual colouring in, stacking bricks etc but she gets bored quickly.

Baking is fine for a little while and we go to the supermarket or shops together.

Try looking up the Wildlife Trust pages, they are full of fun outdoor things to do for free. Craft, dancing, indoor assault courses, etc.

I had a list of dry day things and wet day things. Nothing has to be massive, they will love just spending time with you.

Some of you are nuts....i detest rain and will not go out in it unless i absolutely have to....on a shitty day i will be curled up on my sofa with netflix...a blanket and a big mug of tea....when my kids were little it was cbeebies and colouring books....i honestly dont believe that people really enjoy being outside in the pissing down rain.

I quite like swimming in the sea in rain. I shall do so next week, probably. Our children do occasionally too. The curling up in front of the fire feels even better then.

Absolutely driving rain isn’t fun but I’m quite happy to go out in moderate rain.

safariboot · 14/10/2020 04:35

It's not that much wetter in winter anyway. There will be dry, albeit cold, days. A bit of rain's not so bad if the wind's light. Strong winds are what make winter days vicious.

OverTheRainbow88 · 14/10/2020 06:31

Well we are already half way through Oct, and in the SW we’ve not had too bad weather! So only nov- jan to go! 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

I'm missing the variety of activities on offer. I quite like the outdoors but day after day...

Agreed it is so much easier when there are two children of a similar age to play together (my elder dc is at school).

Also a bit soul destroying turning up to empty parks but okay in short bursts. Luckily dc continues to have naps in the afternoon, so I try to wear her out in the morning with some sort of physical activity.

BabyLlamaZen · 14/10/2020 20:40

I feel similar but get a timetable in.

Out every day at least once a day(and yes we have to toughen up and get full waterproof gear!)

  • craft activities are great
  • cooking/baking
  • is the library opening back up where you are?
