To ask what your favourite long waterproof coat is - and where I can get it?

Just that....

Rainy days.... lots of dog walking.... Longing for a robust but relatively stylish (ok, just a little bit) waterproof coat that I can throw on and will keep me wonderfully dry.

What's your favourite?

And if its still available, where would I buy it?

Thanks

I’ve just bought this one. Not a bad price compared with Seasalt etc. Insulated and waterproof, pretty robust.

Seasalt Janelle. I'm 5'7" and it's a decent length on me. I don't mind a bit of rain dripping onto my tights/trouser legs at the shin - wayyyy better than wearing a short waterproof and having wet thighs! I've Nikwaxed it a few times and it's spot on.

Like my mum, I love a nice coat. One of my favorite makers of stylish (darts into waist etc), warm, longer coats is Creenstone. It's a Dutch make, and their slogan is "by women for women." I find them really nicely made, I've got one for each season. They aren't cheap but they often come with detachable puffer-type affairs for underneath/lighter wear (so two in one) and collars. The one waterproof one I have has never let me down. I got the first one almost ten years ago, and it still looks new. If only I could actually zip it up still! Good luck. I love a nice coat thread.

Another vote for Seasalt Janelle. Love mine, so warm and cosy and long.

I wear a gorgeous plus size iridescent plastic Mac and it's fabulous and just simply keeps the rain brilliantly
Jumper underneath - I'm set

@RedPandaFluff is the berghaus warm? I’ve been looking at it this week and really need a warm coat as I’m permanently cold. I love the beige.

SahmedOut · 04/10/2020 19:24

Arcteryx- amazing but expensive!
I've a Patagonia double layer coat which is warm, long and waterproof and can be worn separately. BUT it shrank slightly when I washed it Angry
MIL has a jack Wolfskin which she says is very good and a friend favours North Face.

RedPandaFluff · 04/10/2020 19:34

@pennee No, Berghaus do have warm waterproofs (I have the BEST waterproof parka from there) but I prefer separates as it's more versatile. I've been wearing the Rothley jacket all summer for walking in the Peak District - even through the worst downpours it has kept me bone dry - and in winter I'll keep wearing it plus my Berghaus insulated jacket underneath (I have the one pictured, it's called the Tephra Stretch and I like it because the side panels make it nice and slimline).

I don't work for Berghaus, I promise - I just love their outdoor gear Grin

I have a seasalt plant hunter, great coat but it’s a bit thick for me to wear at the minute (I’m always warm) so considering another thinner sea salt for autumn/ spring
Expensive but good quality and they do plus size which many good brands don’t

Furble · 04/10/2020 20:23

Another vote for Didriksons. 100% waterproof and warm enough for football watching weekends. I’m totally thrilled with mine and recommending to anyone who will listen. www.didriksons.com/en/women/jackets/parkas/cajsa-women-s-parka-2-503504-060

😆 loving the don’t work for Berghaus comment.
I might try the Nula long I think.

BakewellGin1 · 04/10/2020 20:31

After testing my Lands End coat yesterday in Blackpool rain and gales... Its warm but don't count on a waterproof hood whatever the description says.. I had lovely damp frizzy flat to head hair... Not a look I was going for Angry

Armi · 04/10/2020 20:41

Love my Janelle Seasalt coat. I walked for two hours in torrential rain on a beach yesterday and got back to the car completely dry.

DarkMintChocolate · 04/10/2020 20:47

I love my Didrikson! I have felt the cold all my life, and even I find it warm! (With waterproof over trousers)

OntheWaves40 · 04/10/2020 20:53

There was a thread last year where everyone was swearing by some sort of yellow mac I’m surprised it’s not been mentioned, can’t remember what it was called though

Thisisnotnormal69 · 04/10/2020 20:54

Following this!!

TellMeAStoryIllTellYouTheTruth · 04/10/2020 21:12

Ooooo i've just started another thread as I'm interested in Seasalt coat!

Does anyone have the Seasalt HighWater coat? It looks more lightweight than the Janelle?I want something I can wear a jumper under if needed but that I can wear in warmer weather.

Hyperfish101 · 04/10/2020 21:19

I got this last year. Warm, waterproof, nice fit. I wanted a Northface Parka but this was my budget substitute. I love it. Total bargain.

Maybe not be long enough for you though.

Strugglingtodomybest · 04/10/2020 21:32

I have the Seasalt Janelle too. Love it!

99victoria · 04/10/2020 21:50

I have a Baleno, Chelsea 3/4 length - I'm 5!ft 4in and it comes just below my knees. It was about £170 I think but it's easily the best waterproof coat I've ever had and is a nice fit too

Merrz · 04/10/2020 22:01

Northface, had 2 in my adult life, definitely worth the money, can be worn any time of the year and seems to keep you really warm in cold weather but also not feel too hot in summer

Ineedflour · 05/10/2020 20:17

I got a long waterproof coat, with hood and shoulder flap in a Cotton Traders concession in a garden Center. Totally unfashionable but looks smart and works like a dream.
