To ask you to recommend me a large, thick, warm blanket?

Shamelessly posting for traffic!

My house gets pretty cold in winter. I want a lovely, thick, heavy blanket to wrap myself up in on the sofa. All the ones in the shops seem to be a bit thin and plastic-y, and not big enough!

So, lovely people of Mumsnet, can you hit me with your blanket recommendations?

Currently listing over this one, but I don't know whether I can quite allow myself to spend £150?!

It's not heavy but it's very snuggly and warm and huge. Might work as a stop gap while you save for the "proper" one.

It's also more beige than grey.

@StCharlotte Thanks, looks fab!

Dunelm 'Thermosoft'. Come in 2 different sizes, the bigger one is enormous (covers a superking bed) and I think is around 40 quid. Really warm, wash like a dream. Highly recommend. They are in the throws section.

I've just bought a heated fleece blanket so I don't have to heat the house when I'm working from home during the day. I have to say, it's a game changer!

Tkmax. They have all sorts. I like a proper woollen scratchy blanket and dd prefers the fleecy squishy ones, tkmax provides both

This one

Huge, heavy, warm and not itchy.

Sounds like it should not be warm but it is so soft and warm I adore mine.

Tollergirl · 03/10/2020 22:26

I've just bought a lovely vintage 'Witney blanket ' from Ebay. Pure wool and warm as anything. Have it over my wool duvet at night and snug as a bug in a rug! Plus no plastic and environmentally friendly! There were quite a few on there when I was looking.

Once you've had a furry bed throw there's no going back. Very Dr Zhivago.

If you want proper wool blankets I can recommend this company. It's a small family run woollen mill in the heart of Ireland. They sell old fashioned bed blankets as well as contemporary throws in Irish wool, mohair or lambswool. I have no personal connection to the company, just a satisfied customer.

Another vote for dunelm thermosoft.

I bought this M&S when in the last Christmas sale. Very soft and warm and comes in very big sizes if you want it. Looks like it’s back this year.

I have a heated throw. Best thing ever.

HollowTalk · 03/10/2020 22:49

Another one for the heated throw. You will never ever regret it! This is the one I bought, from Amazon.

Puffinhead · 03/10/2020 23:03

TKMaxx always seem to have lovely thick blankets.

ToeTouchingTitties · 03/10/2020 23:54

Try a search for ‘Sherpa blankets’.. very soft!

Blanketseeker2020 · 04/10/2020 07:38

Thank you everyone - some great ideas! Perhaps I should buy more than one, so that DP doesn't hog my side? Grin

Why on earth don't you buy a heated blanket?!
