To offer chocolates if you can find me a self catering trip for Monday?

SunShinesAutumn · 03/10/2020 16:47

Last minute due to medical stuff, and like the rest of the country I want to escape. Looking for a self catering, detached place to sleep 2. The usual places I know to look are sold out and our usual budget is around £400 but going to look up to £1200 and I don’t know where to look and most aces are just booked up. Unless I want a 14bed mansion.

I can’t find anywhere, so if you manage to find me somewhere I will send an Amazon gift code to buy chocolates I would be so grateful!

Requirements are self catering, detached (or near enough so no neighbour noise),
Stupidly clean, no high ceilings/spiders
Sea view, or view of water/stream/river or mountains, or not in a middle of a housing estate/feel like you can escape etc.
Any time from today until a week Monday, so a week or M-F from the 5th or F-M from the 9th Oct.
Thinking Devon/Cornwall, Wales (the open bits) Lake District etc

Or I can send flowers!

Barn conversion in Cornwall near Bude. £527 for the week commencing Friday 9th, but they do do short breaks some times of the year so could ask if they'll let you do a shorter trip.

Hello, I have availability from Tuesday 6th October, 5 or 6 nights £550. Beautiful, detached, 200 year old converted barn in the lovely Eden Valley, Cumbria, between Lakes & Dales. 7 miles from the Lake District National Park & actually within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Overlooks river in idyllic, peaceful village of Maulds Meaburn. Inspected annually & graded 4* with Gold Award by Visit England. Log burner, comfy sofas, king size bed in main bedroom plus small bunk bedroom for children 5 years+ only, free unlimited wifi, own large garden (fully enclosed to height of 1 metre), lovely riverside walks from the door. Excellent pub (one of the top pubs in Cumbria on TripAdvisor) 30 mins stroll along the river, dog friendly, serves great food. facebook.com/barnrental www.harrysbarn.weebly.com

Not the sea but Lake District! Have used this company a few times over the years!

This area is middle of nowhere, but lots to do, as close to a Bristol, Bath and Wells. Not seaside though, but there are lake views. https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/45230290?adults=2&checkin=2020-10-05&checkkout=2020-10-09&sourceimpressionnid=p316017470466_oht9USiZn8xFpRGz

Thank you everyone, I am still reading and working my way through.. just getting to the bottom of page 1!

Current favourites are the private beach one in Newquay but I’d just want to check how attached/ can you SD enough on the balcony from your neighbour and one in west wales.

Good point about the heads up about lockdowns announced on a Tuesday!

Some lovely places everyone has linked.

Have a look on the National Trust cottages website. There are a few nice looking ones on there with availability for your dates.

Was the one in Newquay the one I posted? If so, the space outside each cabin is the width of each cabin but they are detached. The deckchairs outside fit either side of the steps to the door, so from your deckchair to the neighbour's deckchair would be 5-6 feet. Disclaimer- am crap at distances!!

I used to work with the lovely lady who runs this.

Have you looked at Maenporth estate? eg www.maenporthestate.com/falmouth-self-catering/for-rent/8-the-ridges/ or www.maenporthestate.com/falmouth-self-catering/for-rent/64-lower-maen-cottages/
but various others available

It's not detached, but we stayed a couple of weeks ago in one of the houses (without a sea view) and didn't hear a peep out of either side, so they seem very well sound insulated. Also, very clean.

However, if you have mobility problems it may not be the best place as the slope down to the beach is very steep, so you'd have to drive up and down.

SunShinesAutumn · 03/10/2020 22:33

@Itwasaquarterpast11 yes Tolcarne thanks. We were looking at the 3 bed apartment one, so I guess it’s a similar distance and wondering if it would feel too crowded, I’ve sent them an email. Bit definitely one to go back to when this is all over! Looks amazing, what’s the parking like? Google Maps seems to say Non existent?

Bowjy Coth . Pendeen Cornwall.
You can see the sea.

Itwasaquarterpast11 · 03/10/2020 23:00

@SunShinesAutumn there is a carpark half way down the hill for guests only, so always space. We stayed during October half term last year and there were only a handful of people across the whole hotel, was v quiet and the beach was always quiet.

ForthPlace · 04/10/2020 14:33

Did you make a choice @SunShinesAutumn? Excited for your last minute break.

SunShinesAutumn · 04/10/2020 14:56

@ForthPlace I’ve picked the one I think will work, just trying to convince DH that it is safe to go at the moment!

Have you considered glamping? We had a lovely stay here www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/low-wray-campsite-glamping and there are also tee pees on site which you book through a different company.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/10/2020 15:06

Sorry looks like I was late to the party :)

SunShinesAutumn · 04/10/2020 15:25

Thanks @LivingDeadGirlUK the more the merrier! Glam ping does look lovely but I need the inside/electricity/modern home comforts for medical stuff.

@SunShinesAutumn a lot of places do have electric. We stayed in a lovely place near bakewell called Peak Pods www.peakpods.com/ that has electricity, cooking facilities, and en suit with power shower. It was nicer than most hotels I've stayed in, but its not near water so doesn't fit your criteria.

msbevvy · 04/10/2020 16:03

Not detached but a very very peaceful adult only self catering apartment. Gorgeous sea views and set in a massive country park.
