I'm from Newcastle.
We are in local lockdown.
Not allowed to socialise with anyone outside household and nobody is allowed in your home etc.
I have a weekend in Leeds booked next week.
Aibu to go ?
Is that even allowed ?

Are you going with your own household?

tinydancerss · 02/10/2020 19:20

I'm going with a friend but I live alone so she is my support bubble.

Then it’s ok I think. Enjoy!

Wheytaminute · 02/10/2020 19:20

You can go. If you're sharing accommodation with your own family /bubble.

Be aware that Leeds is on some local restrictions too.

hammeringinmyhead · 02/10/2020 19:25

I would. Local residents of Leeds are allowed out and about with their own household and holiday accommodation is still open.

I think I'd feel a bit funny if I didn't already live in a higher risk area but you don't have that issue.

Laaalaaaa · 02/10/2020 19:26

Is there restrictions of travelling out of your area though? We had a local lockdown earlier in the summer and were forbidden to travel 5 miles outwith the city unless for work or other essential travel.

ABabyPanda · 02/10/2020 19:29

That’s fine, I’ve been in local lockdown since July!

Stantons · 02/10/2020 19:38

You can, whether you should is another matter

GameSetMatch · 02/10/2020 19:45

I’m not sure, in Liverpool you’re not allowed out of the area. I’m not sure if Newcastle is the same or not, have a look at your local council website. If it doesn’t say much I take it as you can go!

CottonSock · 02/10/2020 19:48

No way. I'm in local lock down and just cancelled all plans outside our local area.

The3Ls · 02/10/2020 19:52

I am in Leeds and have family in Newcastle. Apparently they are very much the same by all accounts and although I am annoyed (had to cancel a curry night tonight) it's all very safe and he same as Newcastle as far as I can gather. You are within the rules. Come and see us Leeds is fab! The city centre is very quiet at the moment but you and your friend will still have a laugh and a change of scene

Rachierach11 · 02/10/2020 19:54

All local lockdown rules seem to be slightly different. In ours we could go away if we wanted to but you have to abide by the rules of your local lockdown even if the rules are more relaxed where you are going. The local lockdown where my parents live says they are not allowed to leave the area unless essential or for work. Just have a look at what your local rules are. They'll be on the council website x

rottiemum88 · 02/10/2020 19:54

Which is your prerogative, but not the law Hmm

movingonup20 · 02/10/2020 19:58

As long as you aren't staying with friends/family and are only in your support bubble it's fine. Leicester has never been out of lockdown, friends are still going away, we need to live! (Fortunately I escaped)

purpleflowers7 · 02/10/2020 19:59

I'm from Newcastle and also booked to go away next week but to Liverpool. I'm still planning on going, as far as I know there isn't anything in place to say you shouldn't travel? As long as it's someone you live with but if they're in your support bubble that should be ok

ceeveebee · 02/10/2020 20:02

I don’t think that anywhere in England has banned leaving the area? The Newcastle rules advise against non essential journeys but they aren’t actually legally banned, and the guidance for Newcastle says that you can still go on holiday outside of your area (see the end of the “travel restrictions” section: “ You can still go on holiday outside of the affected local areas, but you should only do this with people you live with (or have formed a support bubble with).”

www.gov.uk/guidance/north-east-of-england-local-restrictions#social-contact-restrictions

crimsonlake · 02/10/2020 20:12

Has there been any updates on support bubbles in areas where there are new restriction?
I know the new rules say you cannot mix with other households outdoor or indoor and from tonight not in bars and restaurants. Does this mean you still can if you live alone?
I have never bubbled with close family previously as there was the rule of six and obviously understood they wanted to keep to the rule with their own immediate family.
Now they cannot mix at all with each other does this mean I can at least mix with one household?

MrsShelton · 02/10/2020 20:14

in a hotel?

There is guidance for both Newcastle and Liverpool against all but essential travel...

I mean, it’s not against the law but it would be irresponsible. A colleague of DH’s was out partying in Liverpool last weekend and has tested positive. DH now has to self isolate. He followed social distancing so the risk to him is small but he now can leave the house for 2 weeks because of her irresponsibility. Brilliant.

Aragog · 02/10/2020 20:24

This is the rule for Newcastle and the NE region:

"You can still go on holiday outside of the North East, but you should only do this with people you live with or have formed a support bubble with."

Aragog · 02/10/2020 20:27

The guidance is about avoiding non essential travel, but its not an official rule/law. People can still visit the region for a holiday too, and it is perfectly legal to leave the region to go on a holiday with your household/support bubble.

I guess if you can cancel then it would be preferable to do so ideally but any people won't be able to get their money back so are far less likely to in those situations.

Pretty sure you can mix with a support bubble in all the England local restrictions areas. That’s certainly the case in the north east rules (the new Liverpool rules are supposed to be the same as these but the guidance hasn’t been updated yet
Steamfan · 02/10/2020 20:34

We are part of the liverpool City Region, but are Wirral - local advice from Wirral council re holidays - it's OK to go - which is good as we are going away next week. "Can I still go on holiday?
You can still go on holiday within the UK or abroad, but you should only do this with people you live with (or have formed a support bubble with). You need to follow any rules in the area you visit and be aware of the self-isolation rules when travelling to and from certain countries.
People can visit the region on holiday but must comply with the local restrictions."

daisychain01 · 02/10/2020 20:35

Having just read through all the regs for Newcastle (on the Newcastle City council website), there are no restrictions of movement from Newcastle to other places, so you won't be breaking any laws travelling to Leeds

Take your face masks, hand wipes and sanitiser and you'll be fine. Enjoy the change of scenery.

juneybean · 02/10/2020 20:37

We did last week, went from our house to a caravan and only went on walks, didnt interact with anyone else. Enjoy!
