... turned the tv on and then wandered off, leaving you 'watching' utter shite when you were happily reading/mning in peace beforehand.

I'm starting to realise DH has a habit of starting things I have to finish. TV on and wanders off. Outside cushions out but never put away, etc.

Just now he's made DD get her headphones for her iPad so he can watch tv, put ancient star trek on and buggered off to the office after 5 mins (and is now watching shite on YouTube).

Obviously I'll use my words later, but lightheartedly:

YANBU: murder him and live forever in peaceful quiet with everything in its place
YABU: Aww bless, he put star trek on for me, how kind.

Just turn it off.

Frlrlrubert · 02/10/2020 18:52

Well yes, I have, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life turning off things he's switched on or putting away things he's got out.

Yeh that’s really annoying. If he actually wants to watch it fine, but if he’s leaving he should turn it off and think does he actually want the telly on before doing it

doctorhamster · 02/10/2020 18:55

Yanbu. Kill him dead.

ClickandForget · 02/10/2020 18:57

This is exactly how I've spent the last 35 years.
Get out now while you still have your marbles.

VictoriaBun · 02/10/2020 18:59

Not quite as annoying as mine who has bought a satellite dish saying he can set it up and fix to apex of house . Spent 2 days trying ( with me having to help here and there) only to drop it and get annoyed with himself and chucked everything associated with the purchase in the bin. Over £375 worth .

FallonsTeaRoom · 02/10/2020 19:02

I was happily watching an old film once when my now-ex wandered in, grabbed the remote and started channel hoping saying ”you can watch anything, you know”

Er yes, I do know that now put it back on the film I WAS WATCHING

MuchTooTired · 02/10/2020 19:05

YANBU. Make him disappear, he’s clearly a monster.

My DH likes to watch his Crap stuff on the tv and more crap on YouTube on his phone at the same time. And when he unloads the dishwasher he doesn’t stack things neatly, but haphazardly shoves things in the cupboard in the wrong place.

Maybe we could be each other’s alibis? Grin

InFiveMins · 02/10/2020 19:08

Seriously, tell him it's pissing you off and to stop doing it. He's doing it because he thinks he controls the TV. It's really rude to put something on, disturb others and then go and do something else.

Furbs · 02/10/2020 19:12

Need a hand digging?

VinylDetective · 02/10/2020 19:15

They all seem to be hardwired to do it.

Itwasntme101 · 02/10/2020 19:19

Mine puts something on, you start to get into it but then the adverts come on so he starts channel hopping and starts watching something else forgetting the programme he originally put on 🙄

Daleksatemyshed · 02/10/2020 19:38

Mine goes to bed early but finds something "I'll want to watch" before he goes. I turn it over usually on principal Wink

Aquamarine1029 · 02/10/2020 19:41

No court in the land would convict you under these circumstances. Kill the bastard.

Titterofwit · 02/10/2020 19:46

Get the remote and sit on it every time you settle down.
DH will then have to hunt for it before turning the channel over so he needs to commit to watching the tv at that point. I would guess that he either doesnt keep up the search for long enough to actually watch the tv or he wants to watch it even more having had to work for it and so at least gives the programme time to develop.

This is my absolute pet hate: people who pointlessly have two screens going without watching either properly: mindless screen addicted zombiesm at its worst and also so inconsiderate to anyone else in the room.
Blueuggboots · 02/10/2020 19:51

YANBU
my ex used to do that. Used to put last of the summer wine or keeping up appearances on the fuck off? Then he'd complain if he came back 10-15-30 minutes later and I'd changed the channel?
He's my ex for many reasons....

Plussizejumpsuit · 02/10/2020 19:51

I'd just turn it off. But it's about more than the tv. You've noticed a pattern. It's inconsiderate at best and selfish at worst. What else do you do that he starts but you finish? Is it all stuff around the house?

CSIblonde · 02/10/2020 19:54

He sounds like the toddler I used to look after: 20 second attention span, then wanders of!!

SimonJT · 02/10/2020 19:55

We both do this, we both have very different tastes in TV. At least we equally piss each other off.

I have two very helpful DTwatCats to assist in that respect.

Unfortunately, DP has now worked out that anything sofa related that disappears is going to be under a cat's arse. Mainly because the wee furry shites got ideas above their station and started incubating his phone, earbuds, keys and work passes as well.

What's worse is that before my little foray into animal training, he'd not only switch the TV on when I was happily sitting in silence, he'd wander off to watch something on his phone (when not under a DTwatCat) and then come back after I switch the TV off. And SWITCH IT BACK ON AGAIN.

No jury would convict me. Or the DTwatCats.

greenlynx · 02/10/2020 20:59

He is starting to get very forgetful. Maybe you need to sit down and have a gentle talk about his health and encourage him to book GP appointment. It could be something serious....

Kljnmw3459 · 02/10/2020 21:04

Yanbu. My family tend to come in , open the window or patio doors "because it's hot" and then leave the room leaving me freezing. I keep telling them to stand outside if they're that hot. Why must I suffer?

Elsewyre · 02/10/2020 21:27

Does he just like the background noise?

Sitting in scilence with somone reading can be awkward
