@PasDevantLesElephants

It's times like this I rejoice in vegetarianism. Makes up for missing out on bacon sandwiches!

I was thinking exactly that as a vegetarian. Glad I had pasta and broccoli for dinner.

See I eat veggie 99% of the time and this is what happens when I try to placate DH by occasionally eating fish. I don't even like it and now never eating it again. Please don't say I'm not veggie because I know. I never eat meat as I hate it and hate most fish but was persuaded a little white fish would be manageable. Bleurgh. No it isn't. . There's never this issue with an aubergine

No, I don't think we have actually. I've dealt with pus, vomit and other nasty stuff but I do draw the line at worms.

Looks like a cod worm (seal worm). Don’t worry, if the fish was cooked they are harmless

quite a high proportion of humans have existing threadworms in their gut without knowing!! its the itch that gives it away....

@Whatsmydoggy

I've just finished a plate of oven fish and chips 5 minutes ago. I had haddock. Please say there's no such thing as a haddock worm.

Cod are dirty fish, haddock aren't Smile

It’s a fish worm. I had fishmongers in the family as a child and it was just something we knew. As you cut the fillets up if you chopped the worm then the fillet eater was non the wiser (they are not harmful) but if the worm was within the fillet then there was always a chance the recipient would find the worm or it would come out in the plastic bag in the fridge prior to cooking.

I seem to recall some old tale which was touted that the reasons McDs fillet o fish were chopped and reformed was so that no one found a worm and sued, but I could be wrong?

Grim but not unusual and not harmful.

For the records, I don’t eat fish but not because of that!

I found a cod worm in my food recently. Haven’t been able to touch fish since. It looked nothing like that (assuming I’m looking at the right thing)

It just looks like pea string

My vote is still pea-string....

Are we that detached from where our food comes from that we can't handle something like this? God help you if you actually had to hunt, kill and eat your own food

@Dillo10

Only if you eat cod.
I haven’t eaten fish in as long as I can remember so it isn’t an issue.
If I did eat fish then I would be passing up on cod.

I had the misfortune of finding a cod worm in my lunch back when I was at boarding school. I was made to eat the fish after worm removal! (well they tried).
