I am being given a V V V high end designer dress (a four figures job) by a wonderful friend who used to have that kind of lifestyle. She cheerfully waved it goodbye when she got rid of the abusive husband!

She wore it once, no longer fits and she is giving it to me. I would describe it as a day dress but posh, like the sort of thing you would wear to a wedding or the races. Covid aside, weddings are in my past and I have never been to the races. So.....help me in finding a reason to wear it!

Or should I just rock it down Aldi? And wear it inside out so everyone can see the lablel obviously :o

@Anniegetyourgun

Normally when I open threads like these I can't believe anyone likes the dress they're raving over. But this one is delightful. Like a couple of others have said, it's the kind of style that isn't over styled so you could wear it more places than just posh. Nowhere it would be likely to get snagged or splashed on though - that would be a crime.

And what a nice friend you have.

Totally agree - I was expecting something else entirely, but that dress is gorgeous and so wearable. Denim jacket and some trainers would look fab. I’d just wear it all the time Smile

Why would telling someone an item of clothing you are wearing is designer make you sound like an ‘arsehole’ exactly? I could see the point if you were going around pointing this out when no one asks but if they do what difference does it make? Are people not allowed nice things???

WouldBeGood · 01/10/2020 09:02

Lovely dress and looks very wearable. Wear it casual in lockdown and go to the races when they start again, with heels and some kind of nice hat (look in TK Maxx)

TheNoodlesIncident · 01/10/2020 09:15

That's much more versatile than I thought before I saw it, lucky you!

I trust it's machine washable? If so, I'd wear it often, there's got to be lots of opportunities to wear that! (In summer of course. I'd be too cold in it now.)

Your friend is really kind, I'm glad she got out and turned her life around too.

JaceLancs · 01/10/2020 09:20

I love it too
In fact I have a very similar non designer one in shades of blue
I wear with flats and a denim jacket
Or dress up with heels and a great wool coat or jacket

StarlightLady · 01/10/2020 09:23

Don’t rock it at Aldi, go to Waitrose Grin.

sashh · 01/10/2020 09:25

OOOOOoo just a thought, if you go to the races check the dress length allowed.

I also agree with displaying it as art, a friend has a kimono on his wall with a broom handle through the sleeves.

raspberryk · 01/10/2020 09:28

Lucky it's a casual dress, it's not nearly dressy enough for weddings or races so you can just wear it. You could layer and add boots and jacket for autumn and winter.

simonsays23 · 01/10/2020 09:37

School run 🙌🏽 when anyone asks ooh this is lovely where did u get it say oh this old thing it's just an old viv found it lurking in the back of the wardrobe 😂😂😂

Dolallytats · 01/10/2020 10:09

Beautiful dress!! I would wear it as often as possible and go anywhere I needed to in it. Don't save it for a special occasion, feel special every day!!

sqirrelfriends · 01/10/2020 10:14

It's beautiful, one of those dresses that can be dressed up or down and worn anywhere.

FlouncingBabooshka · 01/10/2020 10:17

That’s a very pretty dress Pyong. The material is great.

I bet it feels gorgeous to wear. Expensive clothes usually do. Agree with PPs, you can definitely dress that down with trainers and a denim jacket or biker jacket. It actually looks like it will be pretty versatile in the warmer months.

So pleased you’re so pleased with it. Your friend sounds great - and I’m guessing you’ve been a really good friend to her through some tough times.

Enjoy the dress!

Dreamersandwishers · 01/10/2020 10:23

Vivienne Westwood is queen of punk @PyongyangKipperbang.
Channel your inner Helena Bonham-Carter and go for it. Wear it with trainers or combats if you have them.
If you can, take that lovely friend with you for afternoon tea, and show her the sheer joy you can get from her gift.
She’s a kind friend and clearly you must be too, or she would not have given it to you.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 01/10/2020 10:24

Wear it! I was expecting something much more formal.

I have a DVF vintage ( well it is now ) tea dress that I wear everywhere.

brogueish · 01/10/2020 10:36

Oh it's lovely. Just wear it and enjoy it.

EvilPea · 01/10/2020 10:39

During proper lockdown I saw a woman shopping in m and a in a fascinator and fancy frock.

The dress is lovely and I’d wear that pretty much anywhere

81Byerley · 01/10/2020 10:50

When I was childminding, one of the mums bought some very expensive shoes for a posh wedding. Mary Quant had designed the wedding dress and was a guest.
After the wedding I asked how it had gone, and she said that the shoes had been really comfortable, but she kept pretending they weren't so she could slip them off so people could see what make they were!

CeibaTree · 01/10/2020 11:07

That's a lovely looking dress. The picture of it shows that it is much less formal than you describe it in you OP - I think you could get a lot of wear out of that, and it wouldn't look out of place as a regular day dress for doing shopping/strolling/lunching whatever in :)

AriettyHomily · 01/10/2020 11:23

Wear it. Anywhere. Denim or biker jacket, pumps or boots.

Why keep for 'best' unless best is in your casket as my mother would say.

CoralFish · 01/10/2020 11:38

Wear it to any social engagement! Meeting a friend for coffee, going round to someone's for lunch/dinner. Or take yourself to a fancy hotel and have a cup of tea in the lobby cafe with a nice book.

strappedup · 06/10/2020 20:23

that’s a pretty casual dress!

LaurieFairyCake · 06/10/2020 20:29

Found its sister on EBay on buy it now for 139 Grin

to ask you to help me create a situation to wear this dress?!
LaurieFairyCake · 06/10/2020 20:30

I'd wear it a lot. In summer with trainers, I winter with pink tights and boots

It's lovely 😍
