I am being given a V V V high end designer dress (a four figures job) by a wonderful friend who used to have that kind of lifestyle. She cheerfully waved it goodbye when she got rid of the abusive husband!

She wore it once, no longer fits and she is giving it to me. I would describe it as a day dress but posh, like the sort of thing you would wear to a wedding or the races. Covid aside, weddings are in my past and I have never been to the races. So.....help me in finding a reason to wear it!

Or should I just rock it down Aldi? And wear it inside out so everyone can see the lablel obviously :o

OP posts:

Gorgeous colours!! Definitely would look cool with a little biker jacket and converse pumps! Keep it and enjoy it - you’ll get pleasure just knowing it’s in your wardrobe even if you don’t wear it much.

I have a pair of Jimmy Choos that I bought at a massive discount on holiday in New York. I haven’t worn them in years as can’t be arsed with killer heels anymore and to be honest they are a bit out of fashion now (think pointy Carrie Bradshaw style)

However I LOVE them and sometimes just get them out of the wardrobe to stroke them and sigh over them. They make me so happy even if I dont actually wear them anymore haha! 😂

Mums turn up to my dds school dressed like this whilst I look like Miss Trunchball!

Put a denim jacket on with it and flats

scrivette · 01/10/2020 06:55

Ohh that could be worn everywhere, don't save it for best it's lovely.

TheoneandObi · 01/10/2020 06:59

Never mind the dress, I love your friend's style! She sounds fab

tinierclanger · 01/10/2020 07:02

I agree just wear it to go out and about to do normal stuff, with some nice trainers. It will make you feel good!

DonLewis · 01/10/2020 07:03

That's a gorgeous dress! Lucky you! Enjoy. Smile

SarahBellam · 01/10/2020 07:17

OP, it’s beautiful. Wear it anywhere and everywhere. Don’t safe it for ‘good’. It it makes you feel great wear it to go out for a coffee or a drink, dinner, a nice day trip, visit to a museum etc. Life it too short to not feel amazing as often as possible 😃

MarshaBradyo · 01/10/2020 07:19

Beautiful dress

You can wear that to lunch but quick before weather gets too cold

MarshaBradyo · 01/10/2020 07:21

I was expecting something more structured but actually it’s the fabric that is part of what makes it ££

It’s still quite casual.

pilates · 01/10/2020 07:24

How you have described white pumps and denim jacket would look good. It doesn’t look that posh so I think you could get away with wearing it in the daytime. Lunch with friends?

TanteRose · 01/10/2020 07:29

that's a lovely frock!
wear it everywhere - casual and dressy.
you lucky thing Smile

Genderwitched · 01/10/2020 07:29

It's lovely, I'm very jealous. I'd probably save it for things like meals out, or visits to the theatre. No need to save it for weddings!

DocusDiplo · 01/10/2020 07:29

Pretty and I am love how happy and excited you are about it Grin

I wouldnt put that in the 'too fancy'patt of my wardrobe - I'd happily wear it out when socialising!

Crackery · 01/10/2020 07:32

It is very lovely

But I can't believe it's four figures. There's a different world out there to mine!

I'd just wear it and enjoy it.

moveandmove · 01/10/2020 07:36

It's not a dressy dress, you can wear that anywhere op.

Anniegetyourgun · 01/10/2020 07:39

Normally when I open threads like these I can't believe anyone likes the dress they're raving over. But this one is delightful. Like a couple of others have said, it's the kind of style that isn't over styled so you could wear it more places than just posh. Nowhere it would be likely to get snagged or splashed on though - that would be a crime.

And what a nice friend you have.

rorosemary · 01/10/2020 07:44

Just wear it. It doesn't look that posh, but it does have that "oh look what a pretty dress she's wearing" vibe. Put it on today and go for a walk 😁.

Potterpotterpotter · 01/10/2020 07:49

I agree... it’s not dressy dress... you could wear that while shopping in the summer

Mellonsprite · 01/10/2020 07:59

Wear it as much as you can, there’s no point in saving it for ‘best’ anymore!!

sashh · 01/10/2020 07:59

You need to mooch about on here for someone wanting witnesses for weddings and wear it then.

Or hang around near your local register office.

Go for lunch somewhere posh, lunchtime deals can be had.

If you can't afford somewhere posh then order a take away, set the table with candles etc and have a solo dinner with your dress.

Chewbecca · 01/10/2020 08:17

That’s a lovely dress & really versatile. Enjoy wearing it!

Pringlemonster · 01/10/2020 08:19

Wear it every single day

Oncemorewithfeelin · 01/10/2020 08:22

Does it have pockets!?
Pockets on a dress are everything!

monkeyonthetable · 01/10/2020 08:23

It's so versatile. I'd wear it and wear it and wear it until it falls apart but not around the house. Save it to be seen and appreciated by other people. Denim jacket or bike jacket and trainers or ankle boots for day wear. Or with heels.
Lockdown won't last forever. Take it out to tea, to the races, the theatre, dinner, garden parties, cocktails.

rosegoldwatcher · 01/10/2020 08:27

Until you find a reason to wear it use it as a piece of art; get hold of one of those headless mannequins on a stand and display it in your bedroom.
