To think that the Queen ought to take one for the team and cook her own roast turkey this year?

Lighthearted. Kind of.

www.tatler.com/article/queen-upset-sandringham-staff-refuse-to-lock-themselves-in-covid-bubble-for-christmas

Or surely Will and Kate could pop over with a hot plate for her and Philip, while Charles does the washing up? No reason why Camilla can't stick a wash on while she's over for tea, and the great-grandchildren could make themselves useful by clearing the dinner table. Maybe not all on the same day as that would be breaking the rule of six, obviously.

Although that's a Tatler article it's info. which is second hand - from 'The Sun' news paper who were told by 'a source' Hmm

Having said that i wouldn't be much surprised if the staff weren't expected to bubble-up to make xmas normal for the Queen. If it is true and they've rebelled - good for them.

sorryforswearing · 30/09/2020 20:03

Either that or offer staff a tempting bonus. I could manage without my dh for a month if the price was right. 😂

TerribleCustomerCervix · 30/09/2020 20:06

God I hope the poor staff have unionised.

TheDuchessofMalfy · 30/09/2020 20:07

Almost more than any other kind of news, I always assume that news about the royal family is incorrect.

Going by The Windsor’s, Kate should be attempting a traditional German Christmas meal from scratch despite multiple obstacles thrown in her path.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 30/09/2020 20:08

Is that even allowed? Can any family decide to 'self isolate' together for a set period of time and thus ignore the rule of 6?

slipperywhensparticus · 30/09/2020 20:08

Sure sacking her staff will send just the right message this Christmas 🎄

WinnieTheW0rm · 30/09/2020 20:09

The Windsors had more predictive value than I realised when first watching it....

C130 · 30/09/2020 20:09

Maybe the catering staff could make up the Xmas dinner in advance, and freeze it. Like a kinda, you know, Xmassay ping meal. Kate could warm it up, if she is not too busy.

Happymum12345 · 30/09/2020 20:15

Meals on wheels is what her and old Philip need!

diddl · 30/09/2020 20:40

Well if there's less of them gathering this year they probably could manage to cook it between them!

LouLou789 · 30/09/2020 20:40

I love the bit that says she may be “forced to spend it at Windsor Castle”. Hardship indeed! 🤣

Fink · 30/09/2020 20:40

The whole story is very strange. Firstly, it's blaming it on the Queen (who is 'furious') when I seriously doubt she gets her hands dirty making any decisions like that, I'm sure there are people to make all the necessary arrangements without her ever needing to get involved or even know what's happening. Secondly, it's massive overkill to have cleaners and laundry workers effectively quarantine when they'll have no actual contact with the royals. If there were a perceived need to have the close staff quarantine away from family, because of the age and health conditions of some of the royals, I'm sure there would be enough volunteers among the staff to cover what was needed (with some sort of financial incentive). But you don't need a person who comes in to do the washing and doesn't come within five ballrooms of the royal household to self-isolate. Thirdly, why is this only an issue at Sandringham? If it's to do with the health situation then presumably it's exactly the same deal for staff at any of the other palaces. How will shipping people over from Windsor help?!

clutches chest

HOWEVER WILL SHE COPE

Pixxie7 · 30/09/2020 20:55

How many 98 year olds would be expected to cook their own Christmas dinner, I am sure between them they could afford to hire a chef to come in.

Fannybawz · 30/09/2020 21:04

So fucking entitled

EscapeTheCastle · 30/09/2020 21:07

They just need to throw money at the problem. The staff would stay if there's a bonus in it for them.
I do like the idea of the juniors making the dinner though. I think the queen would love an m&s xmas dinner.

ButtWormHole · 30/09/2020 21:08

Wiltshire Farmfoods can deliver, surely? Pop it in the microwave and you’re done

fantasmasgoria1 · 30/09/2020 21:09

To privileged and entitled. Why should they not cook their own food.

StealthPolarBear · 30/09/2020 21:09

She'll be at the Slough McDonald's drove thru for big macs and mcflurries all round. Well it is Christmas

Two silver sixpences maybe ?
riffleraffle · 30/09/2020 21:20

Maybe Pizza Express could deliver a festive pizza. That would be very memorable for them. They’d never forget that!

As long as Philip doesn’t do the driving...
MrsTerryPratchett · 30/09/2020 21:26

It's an interesting thought. These are people whose life is entirely facilitated by others.

It's dangerous to be so unskilled. If this was the Spanish flu or plague, what then?

Regardless of the royals, many very rich people do next to nothing for themselves.

Smallsteps88 · 30/09/2020 21:30

I’m loving all the outraged responses from people who’ve taken this story as gospel Grin
