AIBU to stick DH under next doors new patio

It’s been bloody baltic here all week, and this is the third time I’ve come home to a freezing house because yet again DH has turned the thermostat down so the heating doesn’t come on 🙄 i have arthritis, I need to be warm or I seize up completely, and I work in a hospital so it’s always warm. But because sunny Jim is alright freezing his tits off in building sites all day, I seemingly have to endure it too.

Either I kill him and shove him under the patio next door has made a start on, or he goes to live in the garage where it’s like Greenland all year round. I haven’t enabled voting because basically I’m right.

YANBU I have arthritis too and if I repeatedly came home to a freezing cold house I would cry. I absolutely hate being cold, it makes me sore and completely miserable. My DH doesn't feel the cold like I do so we have the heat off during the day (he WFH) but I light the stove if I get cold so it's win win really then he complains it's too hot in the evening but I don't care

The boiler should be in Celsius as well - but at 60 Celsius minimum to avoid catching something nasty from it.

It's unlikely to be 52 Fahrenheit, as that's only about 11 Celsius, which would be way too cold for hot water. And the boiler would have to be positively prehistoric to use old temperature units of measurement.

It's lovely and warm which makes the "52" all the more mysterious Hmm

Haha well I'm the person in our house who likes to keep it aa bit frosty and even I think you're right!

ipswichwitch · 01/10/2020 13:29

A wormery, eh. That sounds intriguing. My first thought was next doors patio because he’s dug a massive hole (so room for a few husbands in there), and it would involve minimal effort just to shove him in. Or just set AdoraBells dogs on him. Or were they to come keep me warm/guard the thermostat?

He’s not a total arse, or believe me I’d have ditched him long ago. He has many redeeming qualities apart from never feeling cold and being incapable of finding things in cupboards. He gets hot very quickly so he’s just guilty of thoughtless thermostat fuckery.

Today I stepped into Lidl for the first time this year. In the middle of Lidl there was an electric shoulder / neck warmer which looks like the top of a cape. I always get much warmer when my neck is warm. It might be useful for you OP for the days where the temp suddenly drops and the heating doesn’t quite catch up yet?

I just looked online to find a brand and this place mentions it.

You are definitely not being unreasonable. Wish I could do it with mine!

sueelleker · 01/10/2020 18:41

@Plussizejumpsuit Like the definition of a mother "Someone who tells you to put a jumper on when she's cold".

sueelleker · 01/10/2020 18:46

A plug in electric throw is our answer. I read that as electric saw, which would also solve the disposal problem...

@iklboo - you get first dibs on any wormeries/piggeries/foundation ditches!!

@ipswichwitch. TGE German Shepard's are looking like a good option. Not a bit left over & lots of fluffy cuddles!!

It's one if the BIG plus points of living alone. I have the heating just how I like it in winter & every window & door open all summer.

DP tells me it's 'dangerous' or too cold/hit/light/whatever. I shrug. If he doesn't like it, he's free to go to his house!

I can highly recommend the kimono/ oversized shawl/ cover ups that have been around recently, keep your hands free and a chance of still looking a bit glamourous.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 01/10/2020 19:27

In fact this thread has just reminded me to order a second one of these for cool winter nights in Spain, assuming I can ever get back out there again. Also ideal for popping round to the shop.

Not as glamorous as some I have, but lovely and long and cosy.

I am probably in your oh side here. i am the one who turns it down. No heating on and my daughter complaining it was too warm.

SoddingWeddings · 01/10/2020 19:40

Get a thermostat that you can control from an app.....

But would you turn it down knowing a family has arthritis and suffers badly in the cold? Because that’s cruel and thoughtless if you would.
