Rubbish

Singlemumma1996 · 30/09/2020 08:36

Hi all, new to this so forgive me if I'm doing it wrong, been clearing out my house and have got a issue, I've thrown away so much that my bin is rammed full, I will hold my hands up and admit I don't recycle much like my copies of the Sun and my magazines are all in the rubbish and when cuddly toys are in the way they to go in the rubbish. Anyway my wheelie bin is choka and I've two more bags to put in, the lid isn't even shut now, the top waste is cuddly toys so they should squash but they will not! Anybody got any suggestions for what I can do, I can't go to the tip as I have a one year old and I have nobody to look after her.

Thank you
Leighanne x

In he depths of my second hand embarrassment, I quoted Tricia by accident Blush

mxjones · 30/09/2020 11:03

@TriciaMcMillan

Are we giving this credence then?
I'm just relieved that the OP isn't dumping the rubbish out in the countryside somewhere, it'd be a crying shame if the lovely streams, bridges and fields were ruined by fly tippers.
SlopesOff · 30/09/2020 11:06

@Singlemumma1996

Trouble with freecyle etc is the whole social interaction side people coming to my home, I'm terrified with this covid situation. Hence why I won't go to the tip
There are guidelines on the Freecycle website regarding Covid.

You don't need to see anyone, you can leave it outside at a pre-arranged time.

I suppose there are people like this who have no idea how things work but hmmmm.

Enchantmentz · 30/09/2020 11:09

Save the excess for the next bin collection or go to the tip.Confused I have bags of clothes sitting in cupboards for months waiting until I can be bothered taking to charity. You should really start recycling everything that can be. My waste bin is never full this way and my bins are collected fortnightly. Waste bin gets full when I do a clear out but I usually save any excess or borrow a neighbours bin with permission.

contrmary · 30/09/2020 11:13

Another thing you can do, if you've got an under-used recycling bin, is put your rubbish at the bottom and then add a layer of recycling material on top. As long as it's not obvious what you've done it will pass the cursory check the bin men give it before emptying into the lorry.

OhCaptain · 30/09/2020 11:14

OMG babez, it's not your fault hunz xoxoxoxoxox

Ur username is single mumma, why can't people understand you don't wanna take ur princess bubz to the tip?

Just leave it in a neighbour's bin. They won't mind. The Sun is brilliant. Don't mind all the snakes and snobs on here x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0

LonelyFromCorona · 30/09/2020 11:15

Troll post surely.

"I have too much rubbish, what to do with it, I can't take it to the tip"

Err, find some other solution? Ask family? Neighbours? To use their bins or take to the tip for you? Take some of the recycling out and put it in the recycling bin?

Why you need us to help I don't know....

SlopesOff · 30/09/2020 11:15

Great idea. That will ensure that the entire load goes to landfill when it is discovered because they don't sort recycling that has household crap in it.
bert3400 · 30/09/2020 11:16

So you are frightened of Covid but happy to destroy the planet, because you are lazy

HoratiotheHorsefly · 30/09/2020 11:16

I do this magical thing when I'm giving something away where I don't have to 'interact' with others, I put the item in a carrier bag and hang it on my front door or back gate.

Voila, item gone without me having to speak to anyone.

Recycle your stuff in future and start thinking about your child's future in this overstuffed world...

MinaMurray · 30/09/2020 11:24

The obvious answer is to put all the recycling in the recycling bin. The binmen where I live will take extra recycling provided that it’s put out in see through bags (so they can see it’s recycling rather than rubbish).

As for the tip, I went to my local one yesterday, and there’s hardly any social interaction there. One man at the gate directing cars to the right bit, and that’s it. The staff at the top are keeping as far out of the public’s way as possible. And I can take my DC if I need to, as long as I make sure they stay in the car.
Honestly, I had far more social interaction in the supermarket this morning.

TeddyIsaHe · 30/09/2020 11:26

Well clearly you do recycle as this attempt at froth has been done plenty of times before.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/09/2020 11:28

Wait, you've all missed that the OP's brought us a new variant of the 'should I leave my child' dilemma never seen before on Mumsnet, to my knowledge.

The petrol station, outside the butchers and 'shop across the road' scenarios have all been done to death, but cleverly disguised amongst all that guff about putting copies of The Sun in the non recyclables is the dilemma that is 'I can't get to the tip because I can't leave my 1 YO in the car' but surely, seeing as you park your car right next to the bins you can go to the tip and leave your child in the car while you get rid of your rubbish? Who'd argue against that one?

Plus because it's outside and socially distant, totally safe from Covid too.

But sorry OP, you can't admit to buying the Sun or not recycling and not expect to get pulled up on it on here, dreadful behaviour.

You really couldn’t come up with the idea of putting a little extra into each collection Fir a few weeks yourself? And you’re in sole charge of a child? Eeep.

Open the bags and take your damn trashy “news”paper out to recycle it, you lazy mare!

Someone said stand on the bin.....

Lol

PopsicleHustler · 30/09/2020 11:47

I have 4 kids. And we recycle. It's easy enough. We have containers in a kitchen cupboard and take it down to the recycling bin when full. I understand you can't take a one year old to the tip, but how about a little each time. Tie the bags to the buggy and put another in the basket if the buggy.

When I started recycling, my household waste bin doesn't get as full as it used too. I'm so happy I can recycle. I hated not being able to do it before. And the recycling bins are actually bigger than household waste bins. So there you go

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 30/09/2020 11:50

My dp gets in the bin and crushed down the rubbish with his body weight 🤣. Its disgusting but it works. Eait until there is another adult there though, incase you get stuck.
You can take you child to the dump. I do it all the time.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 30/09/2020 11:52

I do recycle, but out waste bin is 3 weekly collection and the recycle trolly is shit, and doesn't take enough.

LindaEllen · 30/09/2020 11:55

@Singlemumma1996

Apologies, but I thought I wouldn't get judged on here! I read the sun because I choose to and also the Sun savers is a great way to save up for Christmas shopping or days out etc.
Erm .. have you BEEN on this website long?! You get judged for pretty much everything haha x

I don't see why you can't take your 1yo strapped up in the car to the tip. They'll be fine sitting in the car while you pop the rubbish in the skips. :)

squeekums · 30/09/2020 11:57

We in similar boat actually, I'm on a ruthless declutter as we looking to move state sometime this year.
I can't be bothered sorting, selling, whatever, too much hassle. Not worth my time or effort.

We stuff as much as we can in every weekly bin.
Our trailer is full for the tip, we need to do a run so I can refill it
We thinking of hiring a big skip bin, like what you see on work sites type thing to be dropped off then picked up at a set date a week or so later.

MrsSmith2020 · 30/09/2020 12:04

@Singlemumma1996

😂 😂 That actually sounds a decent idea. At least you haven't been rude to me! I had no idea how bitchy this site was 🙄
It's not bitchy, people are just not telling you what YOU want to hear.

It's irresponsible not to recycle. We all have to do our bit for our future and children's future.

FamBae · 30/09/2020 12:18

Store a couple of bin bags in your garage or shed (ones without food waste obviously) and filter them into your bin over the coming weeks. Going forward supermarkets all have recycling bins for excess recycling ie. cardboard, plastic, glass or clothing and I find no one parks near them so you can keep a close eye on your dc.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 30/09/2020 12:25

Oh come on Op - this is easy stuff!

  1. Take the recycling out of the bin and recycle it.
  2. Prioritise rubbish that is smelly or will rot. Hang on to the rest of it and put it in the bin next week.

We once went away for 3 days including our bin day so had 25 days worth of rubbish to fit in. And it was July so everything was going smelly fast! We were absolutely ruthless over rubbish and had a bin bag where all non food waste went that we just hung onto. Took us about a month to catch up but we got there. (I can’t remember why we didn’t just go to the tip!)
