Daily liners/pantiliners

Is it me or are these a bit of a con? Made to make women feel like they need to be fresh and clean down there.

I appreciate that some women may need them if they have lots of discharge/irregular periods/incontinence etc.

But I feel like this kind of liner and they way it's marketed is made to make women feel like natural smells and secretions are something that needs managing.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything.

I'm not keen on them. I used to use them at the end of my period and I never felt any fresher or nicer because of them. If anything they made me feel stickier, sweatier and more worried about smell. Plus the damn things made me thrushy in warmer weather. I'm also a natural fidget so they never stayed "put" anyway. Useless.

I run hot, sweat quite a bit down there and have heavy discharge. Cotton knickers with no liner are more comfortable and I remove them asap when I get home.

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 00:02

I use them. I’m not particularly discharge-y but I feel fresher with one. We get really hot summers here and to change one out in the middle of the day at work is a joy. I don’t think there’s any suggestion that anyone uses them as a way of not changing their underwear as often.

GeorgeDavidson · 30/09/2020 00:03

Pre- having kids I felt the same as you probably, post having kids and being older I’d be changing my undies 2/3 time a day without them.
If anything they’re keeping everything f healthy...

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 00:03

I’ve never seen reusable panty liners but would be interested- any recommendations?

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 00:34

Thanks @QueenOllie

Guineapigbridge · 30/09/2020 00:39

Will only ever use reusable, cotton ones as the plastic ones are environmentally unconscionable and make me itchy to boot.

OldWomanSaysThis · 30/09/2020 00:42

Discovered them age 55+ when I started having urine drips. At the same time, I was buying more expensive underwear I didn't want to throw away frequently due to yellow crotch stains. They are paper thin - Level 1 for urine, not period blood. My throw-away thong days are over.

LazingOnASundayAfternoon · 30/09/2020 00:44

I use them, they work for me.

I have the marina coil so I very occasionally have spotting, when I have a strong sneeze (like now, I've got a cold) I leak urine a little sometimes Blush I can just change the liner and feel back to normal, I'm 41, been using them for about the last 3 years if that makes any difference. I class them with my essentials when I go shopping now. A sign of moving on to middle age I guess Grin

StrawBeretMoose · 30/09/2020 00:53

@Zaphodsotherhead

I only wear them on very long flights, where changing my underwear is difficult. Take the liner out just before landing and it's like having a clean pair of knickers on!

Used to use them occasionally when I still had periods, for the last day or so. But the scented ones are the work of the devil.

But if you go to the toilet to whip the liner off (assuming you do!) why not just put on clean knickers while you're in there?
HelloBolloxMyOldFriend · 30/09/2020 01:18

Well then she'd have foustie knickers to carry around with her StrawBeret and where is one to put the dirty ones when they emerge from the toilet on the plane? Dangle them in front of the other passengers?

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 01:21

It’s a bit more awkward to change your knickers than it is to whip a panty liner out and put another one back in

greenteafiend · 30/09/2020 01:30

If you need a daily product, please consider using reusable products and washing them---these are incredibly environmentally wasteful. Then again, aren't "Pants" supposed to be a washable product that essentially does this? Wear extra thick "period pants" daily, perhaps?

StarlightLady · 30/09/2020 06:45

For me, the gusset of my knickers (or tights if they have a cotton gusset) is adequate. I may use one occasionally at the very end of a period. I change my knix 2 or 3 times a day though. I shower before and after work and always carry a spare pair just in case!

fahrt · 30/09/2020 06:48

I use washable pads. After four DC I am not as intact as I used to be and they really help my confidence

squeekums · 30/09/2020 06:56

I like them and find them useful, makes me feel more comfortable/secure

Im one who is firmly set that sanpro is single use, nothing will convince me to try reusable.

thecognoscenti · 30/09/2020 07:01

The single use ones are an environmental disaster. Great if you don't give a shit about the planet I suppose.

Oblomov20 · 30/09/2020 07:12

I like them. In menopause I've needed more.

evilharpy · 30/09/2020 07:21

Is there any reason not to use a mooncup or similar every day if you have a lot of discharge? Is it a TSS risk?

I can't stand liners (or proper pads), they make me itch.

cologne4711 · 30/09/2020 07:53

They're supposedly not good for the environment, but if I didn't use them, I'd have to buy a lot more knickers, which is probably much worse for the environment. I'd hardly call them the work of the devil!

Lockheart · 30/09/2020 07:55

There's no supposedly about it, and there are plenty of reusable options out there. You can even make your own.
cologne4711 · 30/09/2020 07:59

It is "supposedly", because those lecturing me about using a thin panty liner every day are probably driving SUVs one mile down the road, getting new kitchens put in every five years, and working in offices that leave their lights on all night.

I'd prefer it, if women didn't get continually guilt-tripped about needing sanitary protection. Nobody tells people that loo roll is wasteful. I wonder why?

*oh that didn't take long - because MEN use it too, but womens' needs are bad for the environment, obvs.

SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 30/09/2020 08:04

@evilharpy I think its healthier for the discharge to come out of the vagina as it's a self cleaning organ and the discharge helps keep it balanced.

I have to laugh at those saying they just change their knickers every day. Do you think dischargey women don't? I don't want to be carrying around several pairs of clean and dirty knickers all day in work because you think liners are unnecessary.

squeekums · 30/09/2020 08:12

And? i know what works for me, what makes me feel secure and comfortable so i will stick too it.
I dont like the thought of carrying around a used liner in my bag, IF im even carrying a bag that day. A thin liner will fit in that useless tiny pocket on my jeans, like a tampon does and can be tossed when it used.
Plus make my own? I dont sew and have no desire to start
