Daily liners/pantiliners

Is it me or are these a bit of a con? Made to make women feel like they need to be fresh and clean down there.

I appreciate that some women may need them if they have lots of discharge/irregular periods/incontinence etc.

But I feel like this kind of liner and they way it's marketed is made to make women feel like natural smells and secretions are something that needs managing.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything.

It saves your underwear from any spotting (and as someone who is lightly bleeding more often than not) they are useful.

However for years I didn’t realise why I kept getting thrush and eventually it dawned on me that it was those stupid pantyliners (especially those God awful scented ones which smell grim) and tampons.

Now I wear black pants free bleed if it’s really light or use reusable sanpro when it’s a bit heavier.

So YANBU.

ZZGirl · 29/09/2020 21:12

I use them. I do find they help me feel fresher because of discharge and I hate how discharge marks underwear. I do want to invest in reusable ones though

Same here.

Oh god, these threads always descend into mean, judgy madness where the wearers are told by the non wearers that they need to see a gynaecologist.

Howlooseisyourgoose · 29/09/2020 21:31

I do like them. They're not a necessity for many perhaps (outside of period) but I don't think it's all marketing, they do suit many.

mintich · 29/09/2020 21:33

I use them when I'm pregnant as otherwise I always feel "wet" TMI

SecretWitch · 29/09/2020 21:34

I use them during the day as I am in peri menopause and my vagina is doing odd things. I do not wear them at night as I think it’s a good thing to let air circulate.

Queenfreak · 29/09/2020 21:35

I have reusable liners. I use them most days as mid 40s seem to have left me with huge amounts of discharge.

rorosemary · 29/09/2020 21:37

I use them now that I'm 7 months pregnant. Didn't need them before. There definately is a market for them so a good thing that they exist.

Oldraver · 29/09/2020 21:40

If I feel the need for something (post menopausal discharge) I wear two pairs of knickers or cloth liner. Flannels folded in three work wonders and are much more comfortable

But yea I do agree that pushing an agenda of secretions being something to hide isnt on unlees it starts to leak through

AlmostAJillSandwich · 29/09/2020 21:54

I use them purely as i dislike the damp feeling, or the idea it will seep through or smell.

MagnoliaXYZ · 29/09/2020 22:24

I've only ever used pantyliners either if I think my period might be starting or if I'm not too sure if it's completely finished. Use reusable ones now though, much nicer to wear.

SlopesOff · 29/09/2020 22:27

Useful if seams of jeans etc. are uncomfortable.

Crafting1Queen · 29/09/2020 22:29

@Queenfreak
If you don't mind me asking (I know I could use the power of Google, but just did, and there are several different makes/types etc) but are you able to say which ones you use please?

I think it's great now these things can be discussed (alluding to my age now lol) and I certainly don't think they "need" to be used by everyone, nor should they be marketed this way. As an endometriosis sufferer, and now possibly perimenopausal, I need to use them daily (& sometimes even need to change them too).

chunkyrun · 29/09/2020 22:30

^^ I wish someone had warned me! I thought it was just me. I wear them for mild incontinence now

Lockheart · 29/09/2020 22:30

I think single use ones are very wasteful and terrible for the environment.

Scarlettpixie · 29/09/2020 22:37

I don’t need them so I don’t wear them. I change my knickers every morning and again if I bath or shower later in the day.

I appreciate some women do need them. Not sure why you might feel pressured to buy them if you don’t need them though. I just assume the ads are not aimed at me.

DimidDavilby · 29/09/2020 22:38

I find them so uncomfortable, like wearing a tiny nappy. Also unnecessary, surely they just do the job of pants? I change my pants every day I don't need to be any cleaner than that.

JuiceyBetty · 29/09/2020 22:41

I wear tena pantyliners every day as I’m very wet and I hate the feeling/smell. I’m glad they exist!

DaBaDe · 29/09/2020 22:42

I use them as my period is ending, I tried a re-usable one but I found it didn't stay put.

RelaisBlu · 29/09/2020 22:43

Not sure about the products you mention, but there definitely are marketing ploys aimed at women in quite insidious ways.

100 years ago it was not fashionable for women to shave their body hair. Then Gillette, which had already cornered the market in selling razor blades to men, wondered who else they could possibly sell to - and they hit on women! Let's persuade women they need to use our product! Ladies, won't you feel much more feminine if you're smooth & hairless?

The rest, as they say, is history....

Regularsizedrudy · 29/09/2020 22:45

They are the work of Satan himself and no one, NO ONE, will change my mind

Longdistance · 29/09/2020 22:46

I get discharge down there and it makes my pants wet, it feels uncomfortable. I also dribble a little if I sneeze Blush
I do like having the panty liner there.

Pipandmum · 29/09/2020 22:48

I use them daily and my daughter does when she is expecting her period or tailing off.
I wish I had realised they existed earlier. I hate any moisture down there and this stops that.
They aren't wasteful if it is something that makes me feel comfortable and prevent embarrassing moisture on furniture. Women are different and if you don't need them great but I'm happy they are available.

Twigaletta · 29/09/2020 22:50

I used to use them on certain days (end of period or heavier discharge days) but then discovered Cheeky Wipes period pants. I use these now and I much prefer them.
