To reuse hot water bottle water?

Not to be tight or even conscious of anything environmentally....

I've got bad cramps. I made a hot water bottle earlier which has since gone cold. I'm off to bed now so I want to refresh it.

Ive poured the content of the hot water bottle back into the (empty) kettle, reboiled it, and put it back in the hot water bottle.

Is that grim?

Really wouldn't do that. Just use the water for plants etc.

@DobbyTheHouseElk

I fill the kettle with hot tap water. It uses a whole kettle to fill the bottle so I refill with cold after. Boils faster.
Ew, I wouldn't do that. Cold water is straight off the mains. Hot water isn't.

It'll make everything that comes out of the kettle taste funny, probably for much longer than you expect. So yes, bad move.

But, if you have an old kettle that still works, recycling hot water bottle water is an excellent and environmentally sound idea. And will save you money if your water is metered,

WhatifIfeellikeacat
can imagine that hot water bottles could contain bacteria and mold. - This, plus possibly harmful psrticles/chemicals if HWB is starting to degrade inside. What on earth were you thinking? Particularly if it's not for financial or environmental reasons. Are you going to come back and say your partner does it? It would of been helpful to alliw voting if you were looking for back up.

Particles and allow, off to find glasses again.

This would be one of the ways that microplastics can get into human bodies, I imagine. Sometimes with a hot water bottle, especially as they get older, I can see that when you empty them, small bits of rubber come out into the sink, the lining of the bottle starting to perish very slightly. I imagine that before that stage when it's visible, there are smaller, less visible bits coming out. Tipping them back into my kettle sounds horrible. You can still reuse the water, just without it going into your kettle! Can you use it to water the garden?

Mangogogogo · 27/03/2022 11:00

I’ve done this. It makes the kettle taste fucking weird for a long time afte

SheWoreYellow · 27/03/2022 11:04

@RampantIvy the comment about using hot water was for a hot water bottle I thought?

Also, if you have a combi boiler and no hot water tank, the water is from the mains.

BourbonVanilla · 27/03/2022 11:32

Is there a water shortage? Confused

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/03/2022 11:48

@Mysa74

I wouldn't myself, mainly because it might make your next hot drink taste rubbery...
Is that you Benny Hill?

No way, what about the water illness you can get from stale water? I can't remember what it's called.
