Antihistamine cream and an ice pack.

Other than that, vinegar goes some way towards neutralising the venom.

(Vinegar for Vespa - wasps - and Bicarb for Bees)

Yes, they fucking hurt. That's what they'd evolved to do and if you got a full dose sting, it's going to - your DH must have only had a half sting if any at all.

2020hello · 29/09/2020 19:53

Thank you @mitzk.

Think I will put my foot in a bowl if vinegar and try and get some cream.

I've never felt pain like it, I never knew they were this bad.

How long do you think it will hurt for? I've taken paracetomol

I cried my eyes out last year when I got stung! I sat with my hand in a bucket of ice for 3 hours, then only after about 3 beers did I start to calm down.

I've had some pretty big tattoos, but they were nothing compared to the sting.

Lantern156 · 29/09/2020 20:01

They are horrendous! People forget how bad they are when they haven’t been stung for a while. You have sympathy from me!

SirVixofVixHall · 29/09/2020 20:02

They do really hurt, but also be aware that wasps can carry a large bacterial load in their sting, and that needing antibiotics after a wasp sting is pretty common because of this. If your glad in your groin feels swollen, or your whole foot looks red and swollen, then you will need to call your GP and get antibiotics.

MitziK · 29/09/2020 20:04

From the one I had, I think I still had twinges over the next day or so, but far less than the initial pain - I was stung just under my hipbone (always shake your clothes out before putting them on fresh from the washing line), so it was very, very delicate skin.

A cold pack may provide the most relief if it's too late for the vinegar to work.

Tootsey11 · 29/09/2020 20:09

Two years ago I got stung twice at the same time on my arm and in between my bum cheeks! Damn wasp went down my trousers. They were still hurting months after.

Op squeeze out any sting and keep the area cool as possible. That's what helped me. I couldn't sit for ages!

megletthesecond · 29/09/2020 20:11

Yanbu.
I've been quite poorly after wasp stings. Bee stings aren't as bad IME.

alittlequinnie · 29/09/2020 20:16

Oh my god yes - I got stung on my ear and it was a piercing pain for about a week after - cannot believe how much it hurt.

I looked up the most painful place to be stung by a wasp and ear was no.2 behind no.1 which was on your mouth.

I have no tips sadly as to how to stop it hurting but yes - it bloody hurts!

SlightlyCheesedOff · 29/09/2020 20:20

I got stung once between my thumb and finger.. Right in the middle. It was incredibly painful and ached horribly for days. Bloody horrible stripy bastards.

Purpledaisychain · 29/09/2020 20:25

I got stung the other week and it was very painful. The childish part of me wanted to sit down on the kerb and cry until a responsible adult came along. I didn't have any ice in the fridge so I had to use an ice pop. It felt so good I held it to the sting until it melted.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/09/2020 20:32

They really hurt.

TheBlueStocking · 29/09/2020 20:36

If you have a pharmacy near you, you could try and buy some EMLA cream. Also some co-codamol. And some antihistamines. Then put some ice wrapped in a flannel on the affected area.

2020hello · 29/09/2020 20:43

Thank you so much I was honestly starting to think I was over reacting slightly and it couldn't be this bad.

I think I need to open the wine.

Husband has gone to buy me some cream.

I cant see any stung inside but its kind of under in my toes so very hard to see properly.

I put my spade through a nest in my compost bin during lockdown, got about 10 stings, and they’re intelligent too they knew it was me and not DH as I had a couple in my t shirt and didn’t realise when I went to put it back on, they flew straight past DH and headed for me. It hurt like crazy, I felt very wobbly afterwards and itches like hell for a week.

Start with ice or a cold shower, savlon helped too.

Cabinfever10 · 29/09/2020 21:02

You have my sympathy op i got stung in the face 2 weeks ago turns out I'm allergic to them i looked like I had the mumps ShockBlush I'm still on industrial strength antihistamines from the dr .
I've never felt pain like that sting it burned

MereDintofPandiculation · 29/09/2020 21:23

I cant see any stung inside There shouldn't be any. It's bees that leave the sting behind. Try the vinegar wile you're waiting for DH to return. Although it's most effective when you put it on straight away.

somm · 29/09/2020 21:40

Never been stung by a wasp, but have been stung three times by bees. It's really painful. Bees are much less likely to sting than wasps. But a couple of years ago I was bitten by a horsefly - didn't know at the time. A bite I didn't know had happened turned into a really painful, infected bite, requiring antibiotics and a scapel slicing into the bite .Not sure about wasps, but they serve their purpose. Bees are constantly around my garden, and I love having them there. I'll take the chance of being stung and allow them to thrive.

Cakeonthefloor · 29/09/2020 22:00

A wasp flew up my skirt and stung my bottom while I was hoovering last week. Really hurt!!!!!!! I felt like clutching my bum and screaming 'yooooooow!' like a cartoon. I didn't but regret it a bit now.

cactusdog · 29/09/2020 22:07

Got stung about two years ago on the upper arm and still remember the pain. It was horrendous!

I am constantly terrified of the DC getting stung now as I realised just how sore it is.

Time2change2 · 29/09/2020 22:11

OP were you stung on the bottom of your foot????

Sexnotgender · 29/09/2020 22:13

Gardeners were trimming our hedge last week and disturbed a wasp nest. Poor guys got stung loads on the face🙁

BusyBB · 29/09/2020 22:13

I've been stung around 4 times and first ones were not so bad.... but my last sting around this time last year was so so so bad! Apparently it's worse this time of year?

Time2change2 · 29/09/2020 22:15

Ok read that it was under your toe. I got stung under the toe on the crease last year. It really hurt at the time so much so that I felt I couldn’t drive home safely. I managed it and took antihistimes and ibuprofen when I got home. Over the evening it dies down a bit only to wake me up in the middle of the night in agony. Honestly it was like waves of pain going all up my leg pulsating. Haven’t felt pain that bad for ages.
I ended up having to take co codemol.
In the morning it was better but I couldn’t walk properly on it for a week and even after that it hurt a bit for the week after.
It’s weird though because I’ve been stung a few times, but nothing like the pain of under the foot

SecretWitch · 29/09/2020 22:17

A wasp flew into my cleavage and stung me. I developed a headache and dizziness and felt nausea. Hurt like a son of a bitch, too. My doctor recommended ice and ibuprofen.

I went on to develop a full blown allergy with the next sting.
