I favour keeping a stock of the childrens antihistamine in liquid form - take immediately and it’s assimilated promptly and quickly effective.

Last wasp sting was 10 days of ever worsening swelling and pain.

A sting yesterday, followed by immediate liquid antihistamine and all is now quickly resolved. I think it helps to get in quickly with a dose before the body starts producing the histamine if that makes sense.

There won’t be a sting left if it was a wasp, they inject you with venom, while bees leave their sting embedded in you, and die in the process. Wasps can sting you multiple times, each bee can only sting you once.
Wasp stings release a pheromone that attracts other wasps to also sting you, so get inside if you can after being stung.

As a child, I got stung on the tongue. I would still get woken in the night with pain a year later.

However, they are crucial pollinators so trying my best to live and let live.

How???? confused grin

It was a summers day, I had just had a shower and thrown on loose baggy trousers, no knickers and no socks or shoes.

I saw the wasp on the floor at my feet and felt it fly up the leg of my trousers I pulled open and looked down.
The wasp must have seen the light from above and flew straight up, I panicked and let the elastic snap back to my waist- then felt a stab in my groin.
Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

I quickly pulled off my trousers, OH walked in to see me swearing and stomping about in the kitchen naked from the waist down.

Found my people ! I had a wasp on the back of my neck on Sunday and didn't realise, put my hand up to the tickle and knocked it down the back of my tshirt. It was agony for hours ! I felt sick and sweaty for an hour. DH was at work, I couldnt see in a mirror, and when he came home he just glanced and said hmmm, sore. Monday morning my back was so hot and lumpy and itchy I went to the pharmacy for cream and he looked at my back. I have at least 4, if not more, stings that are swollen and inflamed. And now I have a painful enlarged gland in my neck that I'm sure is due to all the poison !

BashfulClam · 29/09/2020 23:50

A wasp bastard stung me in the back of my neck, truly the only relief was wiping it with vinegar. I did once get the sting stick in my back, a wasp bastard was in my bed and stung me, i whacked it and it’s arse broke off and stayed stuck in my back it was excruciating as it kept pulsing. I made my way downstairs crying my eyes out due to the pain and my mum wiped it with vinegar. The sting came out and the pain disappeared. They are absolute bastards!

Davidsparkle · 29/09/2020 23:55

Yeah they really hurt! A couple of times I’ve had one that didn’t hurt so much as assume it hadn’t had time to discharge the full venom but others have been throbbingly painful for at least 24 hours with residual irritation for days afterwards.

Heffalooomia · 30/09/2020 00:00

I got stung on the hand once, it was ROUGH(there was a wasp inside my rubber glove🤦🏼‍♀️) it lasted for a few days the swelling and the pain

EKGEMS · 30/09/2020 00:01

Ibuprofen and ice and Benadryl are in my first aid kit. You can also make a paste of baking soda and water

SirVixofVixHall · 30/09/2020 00:01

hellhath the enlarged gland is from the bacteria they also inject into you, get antibiotics if it isn’t going down. Also sick and sweaty can be a precursor to a more serious reaction next time, (especially if you also felt slightly faint/dizzy or spaced out) you may have developed an allergy. You can get tested in your nearest allergy clinic by GP referral, and if you are allergic you will need to carry Epipens in case you get stung again.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2020 00:04

Wasp-eze is good - iirc it contains lidocaine, a topical local anaesthetic.

Vinegar for “Vasps” - their sting is highly alkaline, so the mild acid (which vinegar is).

Bicarb paste for bees, as their sting in acidic.

I was stung by a wasp a few weeks ago on my hand and just kept it in a bowl of vinegar for over an hour. Really helped, but I smelt like a chippy!

Ericaequites · 30/09/2020 00:22

To help get the string out, try soaking the strung bit in hot water with Epsom salts. It works well with wasps, shackets, and white faced hornets.

Enrico · 30/09/2020 00:24

They are complete twats. One flew down my top last year and stung me three times on my tit. There's just no fucking need.

They're everywhere at this time of year as well, hanging around getting drunk on what food they can find and stinging the shit out of people because they're fucked off that they're dying. I fucking hate them.

My experience is about a week of torment until the swelling finally goes down.

keeprocking · 30/09/2020 07:55

I was stung on my eyelid by a wasp and couldn't open the eye for a few days but, not wanting to turn this into a version of the Four Yorkshiremen, a horsefly sting stayed for weeks, it was total agony, a massive red, swollen lump.

Dancingwithdaftness · 30/09/2020 08:01

This is why I'm a screamer whenever I see a wasp or bee. I feel so sorry for you OP. I'm dreading the fuckers coming out now for the next month or so. I've actually stopped wearing perfume in wasp season as I'm that terrified of them.

Mittens030869 · 30/09/2020 08:20

I was stung by wasps four times as a teenager. One of the times was when I slapped my shoulder to kill what I assumed was a horsefly (there were a lot around at that outdoor swimming pool). It was stupid of me, as it was a wasp and it stung me. Then another time, I was stung in 3 places when we disturbed a wasps’ nest. Those stings didn’t hurt much.

Then, five years ago, I had a wasp sting on my shin. That was an entirely different story; my leg swelled up and was agony for over two weeks. I can only compare it to a jellyfish sting I had years ago, which left me with a scar that remained there for many years. Obviously, that was more serious, but the pain was very much the same.

I’ve always been terrified of wasps, and obviously that sting didn’t do anything to change that.

Mittens030869 · 30/09/2020 08:21

I’m not a fan of outdoor picnics in the autumn, because wasps completely ruin them for me. Sad

DH used this <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/g20706063/homemade-yellow-jacket-trap/&ved=2ahUKEwiQpbGtrZDsAhVWUBUIHTW4ChwQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw0ajyoHY0zFaVJoSLOKGfD-" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">recipe to kill wasps in our garden. He hung it on the shed. There are loads in there.
