Looking for positive mirena coil experiences ONLY

I've already had a thread where a lot of women have told me about their experiences with the mirena coil. I've had mine in for a little under 2 weeks now and am still bleeding. Starting to think this was a bad idea as I'm in a new relationship, we haven't had sex yet, and a lot of women said their bleeding didn't stop for up to 6 months. Now I'm aware of this, has anyone here had a good experience? Just a short time bleeding? Lighter periods? Etc.

I bled for a few days then nothing for 10 years, notwithstanding having it changed halfway through that time.

No periods, no cramps it was bloody marvellous! The only reason I had it removed was because I had surgery during which I was able to be sterilised. I'd have have cheerfully carried on until menopause otherwise (had first at 29)

I've got one
I took norethisterone to help stop bleeding when I first had it done as I had it for very heavy periods
I have next to nothing now
It works for me

lasangoles · 29/09/2020 21:02

Annoyingly can't take norethisterone or combined pill as am breastfeeding.

Loved mine. Never had a problem

Stripyhoglets1 · 29/09/2020 22:21

My doc gave me the mini pill as well after 3 months bleeding after getting it as I was anemic already. But I didn't take it as historically it made me feel nauseous and luckily the daily bleeding stopped soon after. Its taken a while but its been so worth the early difficult days.

Stripyhoglets1 · 29/09/2020 22:32

Also it was so painful having it fitted I couldn't face removal!

Shizzlestix · 29/09/2020 22:35

It relieved my pain hugely, but didn’t stop the bleeding, although mine was like a normal period, certainly not constant.

Mine ran out last year and I had it removed and went on the progesterone only pill. Zero pain, zero bleeding. It’s amazing!

50shadesoflunacy · 29/09/2020 22:40

I love mine. Am now on my third. I can't remember how long I spotted for but now I get no spotting at all. I can't take the pill because of migraines.

Sloth169 · 29/09/2020 22:47

Had mine in for 4.5 years, had about 3/4 weeks of bleeding when it was first put in and then nothing agsin for the duration, not even spotting!
Cycle returned to normal straight away after having it out.
Didnt have any ill effects & had suffered badly with combined & mini pills.
Just had a baby and likely to try for another within 2 years so not had it replaced but definitely would again without a doubt!

CodenameVillanelle · 29/09/2020 22:52

I bled a bit for a couple of weeks then settled into fairly regular periods - they might be a bit unpredictable but they are always longer than 4 weeks apart and rarely last more than 48 hours so I'm happy with that

CaptainCaveMum · 29/09/2020 23:00

@lasangoles
You wanted good news - here it is: I bled for about 2 weeks, spotted for about a month. Nothing since Grin - and I’m onto my third Mirena now.
Honestly, when it works for you, it really works.

Good luck.

Glitterbubbles · 30/09/2020 18:05

I'm about to have mine taken out after 5 years. It's been fantastic. Bled just for the first few days and very occasional (maybe 6-8 times in 5 years) single days of spotting since. In the last 6 months started to get some minor cramping every month but no regular bleeding. It's been brilliant and if we weren't about to TTC id get another straight away!

PurBal · 30/09/2020 18:07

I loved mine. Bled for 3 weeks, had some cramp that I had checked out. Took 3 months to settle.

Drbrowns · 30/09/2020 18:10

Got mine last October. Had two very long periods after, around 2 weeks each, one on nov and one in dec, and nothing since until last week when I had one day of very light spotting, didn’t even need a panty liner it was so light. Only have it in a year but very happy with it so far.

BigMaryloo · 30/09/2020 18:15

Try and stick with it. My spotting gradually got lighter and lighter, then that was that no more periods ever. Changed my life. Good luck x

SciFiScream · 30/09/2020 18:27

Best thing I ever did was get the mirena coil!

My periods have changed so much (a 30 minute smear rather than a 10 day blood bath!)
Hardly any pain.

Bliss.

Slight drop off in libido but that's returned. Mood more balanced definitely.

I'll have another inserted for sure.

Scandi123 · 30/09/2020 18:41

I've had two and I couldn't have been more happy. I barely had any bleeding in the beginning and hardly any periods at all. In the last couple of years of my second one I started to get light cramps (still no blood tho) but they were really not anything to fuss over.
I swapped for the implant instead thinking I wanted to try something new and that was the worst mistake ever. Depression, anxiety, period pains, no sexdrive whatsoever. Ripped that thing out (or.. my GP did.. very carefully) after just over 1 year.

Scotinoz · 30/09/2020 19:11

I spotted for about 6 weeks, then no periods for a few years then light but clockwork like. Had it replaced recently - spent longer chatting to the nurse than it actually to - and it's been fine. Bleed for 24 hours then all good.

Very positive and pleasing experience despite the numerous horror stories.
