Royal Mail Post Woman does round with fag hanging out of her mouth

I often see the same Royal Mail post woman delivering Mail door to door with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth.

I think it’s really odd, it doesn’t look professional and surely she shouldn’t be allowed to.
Now, don’t worry, I don’t plan on complaining.
But after having the conversation about it to my DH (an ex-smoker) he thinks it’s perfectly acceptable and is doing no harm.

So I wondered. Is it just me that thinks it’s weird? I am prepared to be told yes.

I’ll add, I also notice when, say, I go to somewhere like Matalan or Dunelm and there are employees smoking outside the front door in uniform. And I think this is not right also.

YABU- who cares if she smokes while delivering people’s mail.

Why does everyone need to be professional. There must be a certain salary that encourages this "professionalism"

Who cares, as long as we get our mail, what does it matter?

There is a lady who cycles past me most morning she cycles an old fashion bicycle with a huge flower basket long flowing hair and always puffing on her fag.
I just smile.

I cannot imagine being so judgemental as to sneer at anyone for such a thing. Personally I find smoking unpleasant but not as unpleasant as your condescending superior attitude.
Why on earth would you spend your energy judging uniformed retail staff for smoking outside on their breaks? Do you think they should be forced to give up smoking? Or perhaps they should have to waste precious minutes of their short breaks getting changed so that they don’t offend passing snooties? How “professional” do you believe Matalan staff should have to be when off-duty? Get off your very high horse.

This wouldn't bother me at all. Shes outside, unless she actually burns one of my deliveries, its nowt to do with me really.

I just couldn’t muster the energy to be annoyed. As long as it’s not impacting her to do her job and my post isn’t affected then I’m pretty relaxed.

If she drops her lighted cigarette through your letter box and sets fire to your hall carpet - complain.

If she flicks the lighted butt over her shoulder and it catches your ever twitching net curtains and burns your house down - complain.

If she’s smoking at the same time as steaming open your mail - complain.

If you observe someone going about their business perfectly efficiently, in the open air, not affecting you in the slightest whilst choosing to smoke - don’t complain, (it’s not weird) take up a hobby instead

Does she do a good job delivering the mail? Then, seriously you are being a bit precious/snowflake! Get to know her, heaven forbid, she might be a human being/really nice person.

I couldn't really get worked up about it really. I imagine she's not allowed to do it in her van so she has one walking between houses.

She's doing it outside so who cares?

What if she tried reading the address and accidentally set the letter on fire?

I don't know how some get away with it, a manager from my sorting office came out to check on me doing my walk and I got reprimanded for eating a bloody 'banana'!

OP you got to get one of those traffic mirrors. I'm sure your bin men swear and have tattoos. Perhaps your neighbor smoke weed in the bushes or drinks beer . It will be a goldmine of entertainment. Or you could keep your judgy nose to yourself .

Our postie smokes, I don't like the fact that our post stinks of it which it does when he handles it to push through the door.

Shop workers standing outside smoking doesn't bother me but I do have to admit I hate seeing chefs outside smoking. It makes me feel a bit queasy knowing that the smell on their never goes away and they are handling our food.

It does look sloppy. But I always long to tell scruffy (and quite senior) librarian in my local branch to take the chewing gum out of his mouth. Oh yes, that revolting chewing the cud action.

Shes only harming herself. Live and let live, you never know what could be going on her life right now.

Totally unreasonable- What harm is she doing to you? She looks unprofessional- does your post drop through your letterbox- then shut the f up.
