Turns out Parliament bars are exempt from the curfew.
I can’t quote but Animal Farm is trending on twitter. For some reason.

I don't mind them having a private bar, it's basically like a posh working men's club, but they shouldn't be endorsing drinking during working hours in a public service role. I wonder what the rules are about that? I'm pleased they're not serving after 10pm.

I suppose plenty of jobs include working lunches with clients where they might have a drink though.

That culture is slowly on the way out in most places now. Even Lloyds of London has banned daytime drinking. It’s been years since I’ve been for lunch with a client and they’ve actually said yes to a glass of wine! Dinners are different but I find fewer and fewer people in the city drink in the day now.

Shame really as I used to love a boozy lunch!

BatShite · 28/09/2020 17:13

Its just a convenient oversight, nothing to see here Hmm

Of course restrictions that apply to us should apply to them aswell.

poshme · 28/09/2020 17:56

@BatShite they do.
It was confirmed today that although officially they are exempt, they are following the regs like everyone else.

Plus they know exactly who's in Parliament in terms of MPs because they use electronic passes to get in.

'This government is an abomination.'

I may be wrong but isn't this up to that blustering bellend Lindsay Hoyle? I dont think the government enforce parliamentary rules.

@GetOffYourHighHorse Shock Why don’t you like Lindsay? And yes partly speaker rules and parliamentary authorities generally

It’s already been brought in line after people complained. If it had t been made public of course it would have stayed open.

FecktheBoss · 28/09/2020 21:50

TBF though most civil servants probably want the bar kept open for the politicians otherwise they will attempt to make decisions and policies - gawd knows, we all know were that leads

poshme · 28/09/2020 21:55

@MorganKitten no it was decided last week that although they were exempt, they'd follow the rules like everyone else.

The decision was actually taken last week once the Speaker realised there was the exemption. It didn’t hit the media until today. But don’t let the truth stand in way of making a bollocks point.
Thedogscollar · 28/09/2020 23:51

It's one rule for them and sod everyone else.
No change there then.

DdraigGoch · 29/09/2020 08:35

@Livelovebehappy

Why have a night time onsite bar anyway? I’m guessing they’re not actually working at 10pm, so it’s purely somewhere to socialise? If they need a drink so badly after work, do what the rest of us do - pick up a bottle of wine or some cans from the supermarket on their way home. Another case of ‘do what we say, not what we do’.
You guess wrong. The Commons sit until 22:30 on Mondays and some member s may not have the opportunity to leave the chamber during that time. All-night sittings do happen occasionally too.
Igotthemheavyboobs · 29/09/2020 08:44

Excellent

Igotthemheavyboobs · 29/09/2020 08:45

^^Sorry I was trying to quote @Lilybet1980

Iwantacookie · 29/09/2020 08:53

Canteen my arse.
They just donr think the rules apply to them.

Yes after other MPs complained, Then the Speaker became aware, so all five House of Commons bars have been brought in Line, the one in the Lords was already closing by 10pm.

I can see why they’d want to get round it. Terrace Pavilion and Pugin Room are nice bars.
