DS vomited in our bedroom doorway. Trailed it to our bed were he continued to vomit but caught it then in a bowl 🙄. DH is a mostly a kind sort if person but started yelling at us about the smell and the massive trailing across the bedroom vomit stain. Yes, we could see that and smell it, we were victims of vomit too AND DS was feeling sick. Gonna be a stain. DS is fine fyi
And tucked back in bed. 2 questiond Do you think contents insurance covers vomit stains?? Is it wver OK to send unsolicited vomit photos (i would be OK to receive them....)And why is DH such a massive prat. Apparently its DS fault and mine that the bed room smells like vomit (it is blurgh) but have cleaning powder down will go.hoover up.in 30... mainly just sounding off as it is midnight and it is too late to send it to a friend for moral support.

Your home insurance likely covers it, but be mindful of your excess and your annual premium will go up. You'd probably be cheaper in the long run going on groupon and getting a carpet cleaner out.

Thisisnotnormal69 · 28/09/2020 01:08

Why would you have to send a photo to friend for moral support rather than just discuss it with them verbally? Everyone knows what it looks like, they can picture it without needing to see the real thing!!

Thisisnotnormal69 · 28/09/2020 01:08

And agree with above re insurance. Loads of posters here have great cleaning tips!

Aquamarine1029 · 28/09/2020 01:12

Definitely don't make a claim on your insurance. Your poor son. As for your husband, I think the smell of vomit and bring out the worst in anyone. Sad

Whatsnewpussyhat · 28/09/2020 01:14

Has anyone ever actually claimed on insurance for a vomit stain!?

Just clean it up ffs. Wipe up any excess/lumps then a bowl of hot soapy water and scrub. I've never been left with a stain after cleaning up vomit.

Mumof1I · 28/09/2020 01:55

I claimed via home insurance but only after having cleaned it then carpet cleaned it twice with a machine. A similar trailing episode so around 3m of sitting room carpet was effected. Premium did go up but was worth it to be rid of the stain.
Bicarb can be good for the smell absorbtion

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 28/09/2020 01:56

How old is DS?

BatShite · 28/09/2020 01:57

The only time I was ever left with a stain from vomit, was when I (stupidly) had very light cream carpets and a friend overindulged in red wine and nachos, and didn't fucking tell me til morning, nor attempt cleanup either..that was a great morning.

No, no photos please Hmm

FiveShelties · 28/09/2020 02:10

Send it to a friend for moral support? Just no - why would you even think of doing that?

Just clean it up.

SofiaAmes · 28/09/2020 02:18

My ds has cyclical vomiting (only finally diagnosed when he was 11) so did lots and lots of vomiting everywhere...in every room in our house, in all our cars, in many restaurants, etc. I found that straight bio detergent is great for getting it (and the smell) out of fabric and carpets. Bleach works for surfaces that can handle it. No need to send photos to anyone...no one will doubt your story. It never occurred to me to claim it on the insurance....I wish I had thought of it.

mxjones · 28/09/2020 02:48

If you'd send vomit pictures to a friend then I dread to think what you'd send to somebody you didn't likeShock

Dunnowhat2do · 28/09/2020 03:03

We had a poorly toddler vomit outside our bedroom/literally 2 steps outside the bathroom and it went everywhere. Didn't matter how much I cleaned it, it had stained and stunk up all the rooms.

A couple days later, DH went to the shops and got Dr Beckman (or something along those lines) carpet cleaner. Worked a treat! I probably used more than instructed though but the smell went within 24 hours of that (i guess the drying period) and no stain at all. It was so good, i used it to clean my fabric car seats too!

Give it a go, it was a few pounds from asda but defo worth a try before claiming on insurance.

Dunnowhat2do · 28/09/2020 03:06

I should also say I did clean it up immediately but the smell wouldn't go despite my efforts of vanish carpet remover, vinegar and bi carb of soda and zoflora literally poured over the scene of the crime!

Re reading my post it sounds like I let it soak and mature1 for days!!!

CSIblonde · 28/09/2020 05:47

2001 Carpet Cleaner from Pound shop. Whisk to a foam with a fork (some liquid will still be left but just whisk til enough foam for your stain).Apply the foam to the stai, then sponge off. It's great stuff.

CatMagic · 28/09/2020 05:58

The Dr Beckman one really works. Tesco's have it and probably most supermarkets. No idea why insurance and a massive hoo har. It's just a sick stain that can be cleaned up if done properly.

This stuff is great! Came downstairs one morning to find what looked like a miniature scene from a horror film. On closer inspection, realised it was a skinned, regurgitated mouse, in several pieces, in a pool of blood.

It came out completely with that 1001 cleaner.

The more horrifying part was wondering where our indoor cat had managed to find a mouse, murder it, eat it and vomit it all whilst we were all stuck in the house during lockdown without anyone noticing.

Jessbow · 28/09/2020 06:33

most vomit wont stain if you get on and clear it up when it happens, rather than taking photo's of it

Bluesheep8 · 28/09/2020 06:34

Just clean it up. As a pp said, claiming on insurance will just increase your premium for the sake of something which can be dealt with in 5 minutes.

VainAbigail · 28/09/2020 07:08

Send a picture to a friend? Revolting.

Gin4thewin · 28/09/2020 07:10

Get simple solution. Its meant for pets but breaks down the enzymes, i do believe. Gets rid of stain and smell

pastagirl · 28/09/2020 07:22

Thanks guys! I will try the dr Beckham and the pound shop one. I did think the photo might be a bit ott, just the spread was sooo impressive, wold never send a close up pic promise. DS is 12 and we had got out of the habit of these type of mistakes years ago and we were unprepared at midnight on a sundaySmile . We managed to get most of it up smell and bulk wise I think (slept with window open) but it was on cream carpet and there is a bulky trail from the door to our bed. Will see how we get on. Thanks for responses again

Ok at 12 I might be a bit less sympathetic that he didn’t make it directly to the bathroom so I can see DH annoyance now but to go off and not help clean it is a bit unnecessary

pastagirl · 28/09/2020 10:35

Waves... i think that was mostly it and he is giving it another go today homeworking winWink

Check your carpet hasn't got wool in it before you use the 1001.

It may bleach it and leave a funny coloured patch

Your child is 12? I kind of get why your H was annoyed. I thought your story was going to be of a 3 yo!

pastagirl · 28/09/2020 10:55

the cleaning not the yelling ....... he never dealt well with the vomit when they were young and it surprised us all DS included!
