AIBU to buy this car?

I need a new car. I'm 100% sure I want a mini, and I've seen the volcanic orange ones around and thought they were amazing.

Booked in to view one (similar to the picture) and had a few horrified reactions from family.

AIBU to buy it? Should I get a boring black or grey one instead?

Love that colour!

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/09/2020 23:01

I do want a car with colour! All white grey and black, they’re so dull!

Anyone seen a decent small car in purple or yellow??

TheDuchessofMalfy · 27/09/2020 23:01

If you like it, buy it!

It’s not for me but then no car is for everyone !

LorW · 27/09/2020 23:28

Love the colour, if you love it, get it 😁

Word of warning though, minis are terrible for breaking down and having issues ☹️ My brother had one and had so many issues with it until it had to be written off and it was fairly new

PickAChew · 27/09/2020 23:30

It's cute but ime drivers of yellowish cars seem to be bad ones so other drivers may be suspicious of you.

SenorFrog · 27/09/2020 23:39

My first car was a yellow mini, I loved that car! Get it!

ShopoholicIn · 27/09/2020 23:49

I recently bought a mini and would have loved to buy one in that orange colour.. love it. Go for it.

Chloemol · 27/09/2020 23:53

Do what you want.

Longdistance · 27/09/2020 23:54

Go for it!
Can I suggest going to the Sunderland Mini showroom where they have a Mini graveyard of about 200 different Minis. All different colours, patterns, styles and models. Put me off buying one.

Griselda1 · 27/09/2020 23:59

I've driven my sister's mini clubman and it's very cute, love the mini hologram which shines on the ground from the door handles etc. I'd carefully test drive it however as I found it quite expensive to run at around 35 to the gallon and it felt bizarrely heavy to drive. I've driven older Peugeot diesels which felt quite similar to drive.
The little side mirrors were lovely and gave great visibility but the view out of the back was poor.
I use it to carry samples for work and it has the outwards opening split doors in the boot. I've had to access the boot via the back seats quite often as people park close up behind Bluetooth is poor for some reason.
The colour is lovely and there's so many things to love about minis.

Defender90 · 28/09/2020 00:10

Got for it.

We have a navy blue car and the amount of people that don't see it and pull out of junctions etc when I'm right there is crazy.

I want a car version of a high vis jacket next time!

Elai1978 · 28/09/2020 00:19

isn't as fast as it looks

Should’ve bought a Cooper S or a JCW then. Definitely worth noting OP!

Volcanicorange · 28/09/2020 06:29

Thanks everyone, I'm going for it Smile

I was expecting more than 90mph...it replaced a megane estate (70mpg) which handled way better.

Oh, and as for roof bars...The options are awful. Positions are spaced to cover only half the length of the roof, long stuff wobbles and the sun roof is blocked from opening.

nosswith · 28/09/2020 08:09

You do not need a new car. A secondhand one will be better value, and if you can wait a few months, I expect prices to fall given job losses (I have mentioned this before).

Imissmoominmama · 28/09/2020 08:10

I know two people with that colour mini- both love it. Just buy the car! Grin

ItsMischerWavy · 28/09/2020 08:14

Buy a car that makes you smile and that you love. I had similar reactions recently for choosing an 18 year old car over a much, much newer one (similar price) recently. I love my car, I grin from ear to ear everytime I drive it and don't give a hoot what people say

grassgreenthisside · 28/09/2020 08:43

Love it!

Cars will always deplete in value, so yes consider the resale but buy it now because you love it and want it. See whatever you sell it for as a bonus at the end.

I love minis and I love that colour OP!

dontdisturbmenow · 28/09/2020 08:46

I think they are ugly and crap for your money cars, but that's the one you like, so.of course you should get it, that is if you can definitely afford it and are not putting yourself at risk of not being able to pay essential bills.

Oldraver · 28/09/2020 08:50

We have a Molten Ornage car, it has shiney bits in the paint which sparkle in the sun. Always makes you smile.

Previously had a yellow car, not sure I could have a bog standard colour now

BarbaraofSeville · 28/09/2020 08:51

I'd never have a black or grey car again after too many incidences of either never being able to find it in a car park, or trying to get into the wrong car Blush.

That Mini looks nice so go for it. But I probably wouldn't be painting the house to match. That might be a step too far.

Desperatelyseekingreason · 28/09/2020 08:59

I've got a Cooper S automatic and I still love it after 10 years. The only things I'd change is that the sound system is the basic one and the colour is a bit too 'tasteful'. So I would definitely go for it.

CakeRequired · 28/09/2020 09:04

The colour doesn't bother me, although I'd probably not buy it (I prefer red or blue), but I definitely wouldn't buy a mini. Over rated cars and usually pretty crap.

Elai1978 · 28/09/2020 09:08

I was expecting more than 90mph...it replaced a megane estate (70mpg) which handled way better.

In that case it was very broken. You don’t say which generation you had but even the first ‘new’ generation Cooper would do 125mph and 0-60 in 9.3s, no ball of fire but very easy to do 90 in. As for the handling, that’s their strong point, they really do handle well. Yours must’ve been shagged.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/09/2020 09:10

Assuming that you're in the UK and wanting a car for personal transport not for use on a race track, 90 MPH is more than enough anyway.
