The worst ever toothache

NoRoomInBed · 26/09/2020 21:07

I've got the worst ever tooth ache. I seen dentist he numbed me up to pull the bastard thing but had a reaction to the numbing stuff. Numbing stuff has worn off. I'm breastfeeding and have asthma so can only take paracetamol. I've reached my 8 for 24 hours. Just off phone and cant do anything just now. Appointment tomorrow.

Aibu to take more paracetamol when these ones wear off. Or to even say fuck it and take cocodamol?

Cocodamol has paracetamol in it which is no good if you have reached the limit of paracetamol.

You probably need something like nurophen plus with ibuprofen in instead.

Do you have a pharmacy open you could go to? They are usually pretty good at finding the right combination for you.

Pinkmagic1 · 26/09/2020 21:14

Clove oil. It tastes disgusting but does numb the pain.

Burnthurst187 · 26/09/2020 21:16

Old wives tale....

Mix table salt with warm water and swill it around the tooth in question a few times then spit it out and repeat. I've done this many times, it really helps and will do so for upto an hour then just do it again

NoRoomInBed · 26/09/2020 21:21

I cant have ibrophan due do asthma. No shops open here either I'm rural. I cant take anymore paracetamol until 6am but dont see how that's going to work really

You can breastfeed on a low dose of opioids. I have been through this with gallstone pain. I was allowed codeine 30mg with diclofenac and paracetamol. Baby was fine. They said I could have 60mg of codeine and still breastfeed but I wasn't happy with that because it knocked me out and I was worried about passing out while feeding. If you can get to a doctor or walk in centre tomorrow I would advise talking to them about pain relief to tide you over until monday, then go back to the dentist.

I am sorry you are suffering, I have had toothache like that and it is unbearable.

GwenCooper81 · 26/09/2020 21:25

I also have an awful toothache. I have asthma but can take ibuprofen. Luckily. It seems to work a lot better than paracetamol.
Warm salt water and clove oil is also really helpful.
I've got some orajel numbing cream which is fab, but not long lasting.
Cold milk help over the tooth seems to settle it slightly. As does a frozen bottle of water held on my cheek.
Poor you. It's rough.

NoRoomInBed · 26/09/2020 21:27

Ahh they told me not to take the cocodamol. I only have 8mg ones anyways so very low dose. Just worried about the paracetamol.

My lovely dad has just walked in with some clove oil and soup. Bless him

Don't take more paracetamol it can damage your liver. Cocodamol has paracetamol in it so you shouldn't have that. You can have ibuprofen if it won't make your asthma flare up.

NoRoomInBed · 26/09/2020 21:34

So am I really stuck with no pian relief until the morning ?

OP posts:
GwenCooper81 · 26/09/2020 21:39

Has ibuprofen ever flared your asthma up?. I'm NOT recommending it at all but if it hadn't and I was in your position I'd be taking a couple.
Like I say I'm not advocating it. As an asthmatic myself I know the risks.
Don't take co-codemol. It contains paracetamol. You really don't want to overdose on that.
It's really shit. I hope the clove oil helps. Warm salt water too.

Alonelonelyloner · 26/09/2020 21:42

Bearing in mind you can't take pills, maybe lying on a hot water bottle on that side.
Last time, I had to take tramadol (that was left over from a c-section and sleep on a hot water bottle til I could go in the morning. You have my empathy

NoRoomInBed · 26/09/2020 21:46

It does effect my asthma sadly same as aspirin too. I honestly dont see how I'm going to make it until morning.

Toothache is absolutely miserable. When I needed root canal surgery, the only thing that eased the pain was whiskey, and I don't normally drink at all. I was so desperate that I used it like mouthwash and it definitely helped. Let us know how you get on.

GwenCooper81 · 26/09/2020 21:50

Oh no. Can you get some orajel ( even if it's a prime delivery tomorrow). I've done the same with clove oil gel. It's rotten. Cold milk and a salt water swish.
I've read that a hot compress encourages swelling but I'm not an expert at all.
Prop yourself up in bed to help the pressure in it.
I'm counting the mins until 10pm when I can take my next dose. Ohh another tip, I've used DH's sensodyne toothpaste. It helped for about 15 mins.. Might be useful if you have any sensitive toothpaste in the house. Xx

NoRoomInBed · 26/09/2020 21:55

I've already swelling so I'm trying a cold compress

I have decided to have a couple of drinks just to take the edge off

GwenCooper81 · 27/09/2020 08:38

How's it feeling this morning @NoRoomInBed? Hope you got some sleep.

NoRoomInBed · 27/09/2020 08:41

Still quite sore. Got dentist ringing me at 11. I had a few drinks to take the edge off until I could have more paracetamol

OP posts:
lljkk · 27/09/2020 08:41

finding it funny that OP won't have codeine due to breastfeeding but decided booze is ok.

clove oil never numbed for me but tea tree oil worked

NoRoomInBed · 27/09/2020 08:47

Yeah it was the paracetamol in the cocodamol is why I couldn't take it? Plus I was told not to take cocodamol as I'm breastfeeding by the dentist

OP posts:
NoRoomInBed · 27/09/2020 08:47

I didn't have any codeine about just the cocodamol

BlackeyedSusan · 27/09/2020 08:55

Mine hurt so much I thought about driving the car into a tree. And that was with both paracetamol and ibuprofen.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/09/2020 08:55

You have my sympathies.
